Sam wakes up from being dead in the body of a three-hundred-pound musclebound magical construct -- and that's the good news.
When his brother-in-law crushes him under heavy construction equipment, Sam assumes he's dead. Instead he wakes up in an alternate world where Polish mechs fight against magically empowered Russian robots in some alternate version of World War One. Giant robots with cute girl warriors who desperately need his help? Sam's pretty sure he's seen this anime before.
Unfortunately, he's been summonsed there in the body of a golem, expected to work mindlessly to help cover the escape of a decimated Hussar regiment. Sam must quickly establish himself not as just any golem, but as Sergeant Golem. His mechanical skills and Army experience are just what the fugitives need to survive. As he helps form stragglers and survivors into a fighting unit, Sam starts to feel like he's found where he truly belongs.
Going up against enemy Russian mechs and mysterious magic-users would have been plenty, but then Baba Yaga sticks her withered nose into the mix. What's a simple golem to do?
What to expect in this story:
Lots of action
An alternate world influenced by the actual history and cultures of the region
NO harem
Updates M/W/F.

- BillBallerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is my first review, but I have quickly loved and thoroughly enjoyed Not my first Space Rodeo and saw this on the front page and gave it a try. Youve done it again, as far as begginings go.
You guys are very good at getting the point across and starting the adventure in a fast and concise way that answers the questions reader's have as they come up. I was really craving a mech story too so this was truly made to be.
As far as the story goes, we are very quickly introduced into the action and learn what's going on. One problem I have with most war stories is they have a tough time getting across that feeling of danger, of fighting for your life and risking it with every moment you're there. Here you get a very good feeling of that as we see the combatants fighting for their survival from the beginning in a currently being invaded Polish city. The intro to the main charector is smooth and doesn't jar as to how they introduce someone who is from another dimension basically. Also the technology is interesting since its somehow futuristic in cases like mechs but old in terms of vehicles and other common tech closer to the time of WW1. I'm excited to see how this plays into the future of the story. So far though we are off to a great start!
A last note is even though there has not been much besides mentioning the countries names, but after so many stories on different worlds or dimensions it feels nice to have one at least a little closer to home if not exact. - BookmuncherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Rollicking good story of a medically retired US Army sergeant resurrected in a golem body in a world of magic mechs piloted by young women. Our erstwhile hero, having been killed in a grisly industrial accident, is delighted to be alive again, back in a whole (and swole) body, and even better, back in an army, even if it’s in magical mech Europe and he is now Polish.
- adxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love a good bit of alternative history fiction. I enjoy a hint of steampunk. I really love it when a story wastes absolutely no time, gets going quickly and never lets up. I love it when the exposition isn't in the form of stilted dialogue; in fact I'm a fan of conversation that's written as if it's being actually spoken. Entertaining characters with believable motivations and characters are good too.
This one has it all! - ascii122Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was like what is this about? It's about a whole lot of coolness. The world is unique yet relatable. The characters are interesting and distinct and the writing seems top notch. Especially the combat -- it's some of the best i've read for a while in terms of pace, creating the battlefield and how the characters act. It's filled with little fillers like fumbling for a magazine along with telling the battle in a way that you can actually kind of 'see it' .. Fantastic. Non battle areas of the story are also well written and well thought out. It's great!
- Lester FoxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A very good story, even with the few minor hiccups it has.
I was positively surprised when I started reading, got pulled into it and binged the whole thing in a few sitting.
The setting is stellar, gives a bit of Iron Harvest vibes with the Mecha, even if those here are more magic and stuff. I like sergeant, he's a bit like B. J Blaskowicz, at least he gives those vibes. You totally missed the chance to let him dual wield some machine guns like a true American would.
Thank you for creating this story, is really good. - LordamnesiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is amazing. I love the 'modern' infantry man into the past as much as the next guy, and this story has all that and an amazing twist. What's even better is what I said in the title of this review, the Blurb tells you exactly what the story is, yet is crazy, deranged, and amazing all at the same time! Love where this is going, keep up the amazing work!
- ReadingIsGreatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Love the idea. Current world building makes me want to read more.
I especially love the shown technology. Giant armored haulers with mechs and the idea of the main character being a golem really scratch an itch I didn't know I had.
Keep it up. This could be really good. - SeventhHussarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A complete success, and now a complete story
immediately engaging and well paced, with compelling characters and a well thought out world and story. Sergeant Golem achieves an enrapturing story throughout, and finishes with an ending that feels both complete and satisfying.
A story well told.
One complaint and one only, some of the supporting cast are so well thought out and interesting that I want to hear their complete stories as well. I’ll wait with hope. - pewpewbobRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Just finished the last chapter, and I think that the story is quite enjoyable. Lots of action and character development, and the world-building is top-notch. That being said, I felt that the last arc seemed incomplete;
it would've been nice to see the entire team fight together against the BBEG one last time, like in the previous two books.
A couple of characters also feel like they should have their own stories dedicated to them too, but that's just me wanting to see more of this world. Still, the story is very very good. - Grey HoundRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Ohhhh boy where to begin guess I'll start with
1. (The MC) so far I like him, he's not too OP or annoying, with a quite interesting backstory, but sadly so far the ONLY person in this book that I like, while writing this the other characters have such forgettable scenes, what feels like no life to them cause the only time you ever see them really talk is from CONSTANT pov swaps, so no, Sam is the only interesting character.
2.(grammer) honestly not much to say here it's almost perfect, just personally getting tired of trying to pronounce half the words in this book.
3.(story) so far an really interesting take on reincarnated mechs and golems, quit vivid combat and descriptions are REALLY good, some of the best combat hands down, with our boy being a hulking mass of....well whatever he's made out of the author does a good job of making us like him.
4.(style) Annnnnnd here's where you lost me, CONSTANT POV SWAPS JUST..... NOOOOOOOO GOD please 🙏 for the love of God put multiple lead characters as a tag, because if literally every chapter is 20/80 to 10/90 with a few exceptions in between ALL ABOUT THE DANG PILOTS, IDC, I JUST CANT, IM HERE FOR SAM, Jesus the straw that broke the camels back was right after our boy gets whooped and interrogated was SO INTERESTING TO READ.......BUT YOU JUST HAVE TO MAKE AN ENTIRE CHAPTER ABOUT THE 2 WOMEN, I.DONT.WANT.TO.READ.EVERY.CHAPTER.ABOUT.THEEEEM, ITS SOOOOO BORING AND FRUSTRATING, *sigh* that's all I gotta say I was SEVERELY dissapointed with this one, started great then became a soldier waddling through shoulder height mud to even bother getting to where I am now from chapter 14
