Description
Alexander King loves the idea of an isekai just as much as the next person. Reading about someone who was plucked out of our world and thrown into a world full of magic and danger and watching them struggle to make sense of the chaos around them as they rise to power.
But those things are just supposed to stay as stories, they weren't meant to happen to him. Reality was never as forgiving as fiction and he had no doubt that if he ended up in one of these worlds he'd more than likely die some sad pathetic death, nor did he particularly have a desire to leave his family and friends. So naturally, with his luck, he wakes up God-knows-where with a system status in front of his eyes only to almost instantly die too the hostile environment around him.
Alex is definitely going to find his way back... If he can avoid being killed by the godlike beings that happen to just be everywhere on this world first.

I guess I should throw this out there and it's probably important that I should do so to clearly state my intentions with this story. This isnotgoing to be a happy-go-lucky story all the way through. It will start relatively upbeat, but there are going to be dark parts. There's going to be things that are hard to stomach, things that will make you uncomfortable. If that's not something you like, that's fine. Not every story is for everyone, maybe this one won't be for you.
To allay some questions this story is not designed to be a torture porn sort of fic. But that doesn't mean I will shy away from talking about characters being tortured or abused. I also won't skip through those portions of the story in an attempt to get them done more quickly. These things need to run their course in order for the importance of the circumstances to fully be imparted into the story. If you as a reader need to skip over these moments, that's perfectly fine. I do that myself in certain fics/shows when I start feeling uncomfortable. That's just a natural reaction. Anyway, I've gotten a couple of people who haven't been happy with it, and that's fine. I don't begrudge those people for disliking these parts of the story, I'm just putting this out there so that future readers come in knowing what to expect instead of being unfortunately blind-sided by my nearsightedness on the situation. I definitely should've had a warning up way earlier for people about this.

- Lord_of_AvalonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A really great read this story. I like that the character is very self aware and manage to avoid the 8th grader syndrome, and he make use of his Agency. I also like the portrayal of the Elves. They are more Tolkiensque, powerful, beautiful and strong, as befitting of an ancient long lived race, instead of the anime version where they tend to be more of thirst trap and and waifu/husbando kind and being playthings/slaves of every other race.
- ClothmanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Plot twists. Reasonably smart MC. Uncomfortable trauma. Good enough grammar and flow, better than many. No major bloat. Would have chipped to Paterson for the last 10 ISH chapters but they seem locked, or the CSS is going screwy for me. Also Author seems... Gone? Hope you're doing ok out there. To have wrapped your head around some of those concepts, and put them to paper, I hope things gave you break. Good luck. Putting this on bookmark to check in hoping for more..
- JamalCheat2Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5A great mix of systems and other LitRPG tropes. I especially enjoy the limits with which the martial and magic system work under.
Very good character work up to where I’m at. I did take half a star though cause it is a little clunky at times. Otherwise very solid and I have high hopes that later chapters help to round out everything thing.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend this to other LitRPG enthusiasts. - SlashionRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Fantastic power fantasy, but not for the easily disturbed.
the story so far has been really good, and I expect it will only get even better. We follow Alex as he is thrust into many tough situations and forced to adapt and grow to survive. We meet a few colorful characters along the way, though I think in general they could have been fleshed out more. Unfortunately, with the pacing how it is already, despite commendable writing speed, it's understandable that more time was not devoted to them. This story is clearly large in scope, and I expect it to continue satiating readers for a long time to come.
What I really am enjoying with this story is how much more earned the MC's power feels. Despite early advantages, (come on, it's a fantasy MC) the MC cannot casually disregard most being of power, and there's no hand-waving to get him to high power. This is a slow burn power progression, and I'm here for it.
I'm not a great writer, but suffice to say the combat is very well-written, especially for someone I think to be a newish author. Every combat feels realistic and fresh, and had me on the edge of my seat. There was only one specific combat instance that felt weird to me, and the very next one like that was markedly improved, so much so that I was shocked. I think this author is definitely one to follow, and I expect this story to get nothing but better in that respect.
Now to get to the elephant in the room. I mentioned briefly at the start, but this story is dark. It's not all dark, and honestly it doesn't get super mopey or anything, but when there is a warning at the start of the chapter you really need to skip it if you aren't at least 95% certain that you're prepared. You'll know what chapter it is. Personally, it was considerably worse than I expected. I was still fine and made it through, but yeah it was rough. That said, the story isn't all doom and gloom. It looks like we're headed back to a much more positive arc this time.
I've greatly enjoyed it, and defi - TobytiasRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5(This is my first review so bear with me)
Story: I love this style of story, and many stories on RR are 1 dimensional "OP Mc go brrrr". Sentinels of Discord does have a strong Mc who can punch above his weight class but it's not unreasonable. The Story is pretty fast paced and can feel a little forced at times but it's still very good. Although the Mc is strong for his level he is still mostly out classed by the people around him, avoiding the "Mc does everything and the side characters never do anything" trope.
Grammer: The Grammer is ok but there are a good amount of errors that made me give it a 3 star.
Main Char: The Mc is intelligent intellectually but not very smart socially. It's not very well explained in the beginning but he is VERY confrontational to the point of stupidity. This is not a bad thing but it can be annoying. (Although his mental state is being altered by one of his classes so maybe it has to do with that).
Side chars: They are not 1 dimensional and have individual personalities, and their own goals.
Would and have recommend. 👍 - WolvzUnionRoyal Road★★★ 2.5honestly, great story amazing potential and an amazing read. until chapter 70, it just switches genres to grimdark and goes downhill from there, i am going to have to drop the story. if the author reads this and plans on ever doing a rewrite i would recommend removing this from the story.
- skrellosRoyal Road★★ 2.0I was really enjoying the novel. It has a good system, I like how the skills work and the characters are mostly enjoyable.
There are however a few instances in the story that just make you wonder how this makes any logical sense. Clearly decisions designed to force the story into a direction, rather than letting it flow naturally. While not bad enough to ruin the story, it does detract from enjoying it.
I continued through and wanted to see where it would go. At around chapter 70, the story becomes unbearable to read. It's essentially just chapters about slavery, mental and physical torture, r*pe, and plenty more in fairly graphic detail. I tried to push through, hoping the arc would eventually end and being at around chapter 83 now, I saw the author comment there is 13 more chapters of this.
I consider myself to be unfazed by a lot of stuff, but this was just borderline depressing to get through. - SterlingMalloryRoyal Road★ 0.5I am just going to pop in here to write that this story stays the course for maybe 70 chapters. It’s not particularly unique or genre pushing, nor is it perfectly written within those bounds. There are plenty of instances with the MC vacillating greatly from one personality to another, lots of random situations in no way logically progressing but rather strictly due to the authors whims to keep a story going.
I kept with this story until chapter 70+, and then the story takes a complete nosedive of insanity and grimdark. Unfortunately, what I could put up with regarding poor planning, characterization, and other writing pitfalls when the story was more neutral I absolutely could not when shit hits the fan. This is a classic hallmark of a novice writer and it literally seems like a complete tonal and stylistic shift other than having the same general negatives as before. Moreover, the use of sexual violence and mind control echoes another published work very very closely, to the point I’m not sure it’s 100% authentic here. I am not trying to allude anything directly, but I would be hard pressed to believe the author didn’t read a particular novel well known in the fantasy literature space before writing certain aspects of those chapters. At the behest of the author I am updating this review to name the book that this section reminds me vividly of: Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind.
Overall I would have rated this story at 2-3 stars, however the last few chapters completely dumpster that rating.
