- IkArgonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As of this review, the book is still in its early days, but I can tell already that it will be one I'll keep up with.
The writing style feels very unique, as a first person, conversational tone it's like the narrator (also the main character) is having a friendly chat with you, which feels like really genuine and soulful approach. Its an approach I really don't see often, and makes for a warmer tone to the story.
Alongside the perspective, the writing is upbeat and humorous, and even with so little written I've laughed multiple times, which helped draw me in.
So far The main character seems quite generic for the genre; a funny, "heart of gold" kind of guy. I don't doubt he will grow and become more unique as the story progresses, but as of the first few chapters he doesn't really stand out. The "weak to OP" progression style of novel is evident.
In terms of world building, it gets a bit strange. Even for a LitRPG the world is extremely gamified, to the point of "boss fights", an "overworld map", and "quests" being a main development point. It doesn't seem to be actually set in a video game though, based on the dialogue of the characters. This may be a turn off for some people, but it appears to be worked in quite well to the story, so I think the author will make it work well to enhance the story and not fall into the pittrap of overreliance of game features.
The actual descriptions of the world feel quite vivid, and the author conveys the layout of the area around the character well. Likewise character descriptions are done to a good standard.
Overall, I have high hopes for the story, and recommend you give it a shot. - WilliamGabriel10Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is very nice for being unique and tame at the beginning. Currently on its second chapter, it naturally develops the protagonist. Setting up a more slowpaced, lighthearted approach to things. Details about the protagonists family are well fleshed out and thought has gone into worldbuilding. It all adds up.
I recommend a look. Remember to favorite and follow too to help the author. I can't tell you how much work it takes to write this. - tealeryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like Grom and want to see him flourish! His parents are adorable as well.
I'm new to reading stories in this genre (the sort of DnD RPG style), and this was definitely a fun place to start.
As other reviewers have said, I think "charming" is a great way to describe the story thus far. It's been a light-hearted, funny read, and I found myself smiling while reading it. But I'm equally interested in seeing where it goes next!
