The two female characters balance each other out so well. I love this powerful display of friendship. They go on the run together when the main character Rory's life falls to pieces. Rory will burn the world for those she cares about, however, her power is the problem. She is everything that the council is scared of while being the strength they truly need.

Going strong until the romance aspect. Don't get me wrong, romance itself isn't bad and can be a huge addition to the storyline if done correctly.
Rory proved to be independent and knows how to fend for herself (for the most part). That slowly goes away as soon as Silas is introduced and it's quite obvious from the get-go that they are going to be together (some of the things Silas did or said just kept hinting at it)
My problem with the romance was that it was not only rushed, it seemed things that never happened before started happening
What do you mean Silas put his hand on Rory's shoulder and she calmed down 😭 She was in her shifted state no less.
It just rubbed me the wrong way I guess.
And then, when really the romance came in full, Rory seemed to loose all her imdependency and basically turned into a damsel in distress. Always looking for validation from the ML.
Thankfully, some things happened and the romance died down few chapters to the end of the book but it still kinda rubbed me the wrong the way for Rory to know she was being used and/or lied to and was still in love with the guy.
To be honest, I was close to dropping the book and if the change didn't happen I'll have given a much lower rating.
    TL;DR:
Book was going in a bad direction, author brought it back. When you start seeing the romance, don't worry,  it'll redeem itself.
