Mark and others find their world taken over by a System. It’s unforgiving to the extreme. And there are hints that the government may have a hand in the unfolding disaster.
Style - Mockwell’s style is very hard to describe. From a writing standpoint, he takes a less is more approach to his writing. At times, I struggled to keep up with things, as he asks a lot of his readers in keeping up with the story. Don’t let that scare you away from the story, but it’s good to know what to expect.
Grammar – Standard comment from American… Mockwell is English and his story will follow standard British norms. Don’t be surprised if you run into a spare U or two. I’m a fan of giving hints about the culture around which the story is set. Mockwell doesn’t follow that. He leaves you to fill a lot of the gaps with your own imagination. Now, the grammar is solid. Nothing about the grammar pulled me out of the story.
Story - The start of the story is where you’re likely to struggle. Because of the less is more story-telling Mockwell uses, you might get lost over the first six chapters. I found that things started to come together for me around chapter 6 and I followed the story much better than in the first six chapters.
Character - I liked Mark. He was relatable.
Overall - Be prepared to work when you read this story. Maxwell has a great idea, it’s just the format that he’s chosen means you’ll work to get your mind around the story, at least at first. But stick with it. By the time you get past the first 10,000 words, I think you’ll be able to see where he’s taking this story. - librarysmilesRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Mark is having a no good, terrible, very bad day.
The second day shown in story:
1) Mark gains a commoner class in real life which is never seen again (as of chapter 15).
2) Mark confessed and was dumped.
3) Mark was physically and verbally bullied.
4) The world ended.
5) Mark was forced to battle a videogame "god" that wasn't meant to be defeated.
6) He leaves his dying party and joins the person who dumped him.
There is drama everywhere.
