Salvaging Heaven is an interesting story, focusing on unique aspects of worldbuilding – actually building a refuge for a race that’s been destroyed. In this tale, a closed society must confront the fact that they can no longer survive on their own and break from their strict societal rules to preserve the future of their species.
    Style
The writing is clean and easy to follow, beginning with a bigger view and drilling down to what looks like a personal journey. It’s reminiscent of the Expanse series – no purple prose here, just down-to-earth science fiction. Love it!
    Story
The book begins with a nuclear civil war that all but wipes out an entire race. The few survivors are left to pick up the pieces – but they have the tools to do that. Egyn of House Heritage, the main character, watches her family and home wiped out. As the focus shifts toward survival, Egyn discovers an anomaly – a species that is apparently compatible with her own. Could this be the salvation that she’s looking for?
    Grammar
The grammar and editing are solid. Everything flows nicely and the dialogue feels natural.
    Characters
Egyn is a strong lead—quiet, thoughtful, grieving but not broken. She’s not a hero, just a person trying to survive. Nizagi of House Law, the leader of the group, is conflicted between his duty to House Law, his society’s rules, and the survival of his people. The other characters have just been introduced by the third or fourth chapter, but they’re promising.
According to the author, this is an introductory novella setting the tone for later books. It's a fun read and I’m looking forward to seeing where the story goes. I am very interested in the soul aspect, as that hasn’t been fully explained but looks like a great concept. Definitely one to follow!

I would recommend this to any Mass Effect or Star Trek fan. Politics about the future of a space fairing people and the complications of early contact with new species, so if that is your thing you will have a good time here. Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.
