- Grim ThoughtsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is up to Chapter 18 on RR with over 100k words, so even though there are only 3 chapters out now there’s no need to worry about a lack of updates for the near future. As for the story itself, it’s solid! It scratches exactly the itch I, and probably you, came here for. So, what are you waiting for? Try it out!
- Thefire1995Royal Road★★★ 3.0Mc has some small development but follows the same fallacy as a Gary stu. Sides that the general writing was fine with interesting oc characters that do flesh out the story a bit. Pacing could be slowed down to help flesh out the mc with flaws that could endear to readers.
- Just some guy :DRoyal Road★★★ 2.5This is a story about a isekai guy turned monk in the pokemon world, which is a very nice and fresh idea, but the execution is kinda half baked in my opinion. The whole monk thing the mc has is left in the backburner so much for some reason that half the time i just forget that he is a "monk in training", in my opinion either go balls deep and raise the monk flag high or abandon the whole thing.
Another thing about this fic is the lack of drama, not the "oh no, sad situation!!" kinda of drama but a driving force, the whole thing fells kinda bland you know.
About character:
The problem with the mc is that he is kinda of a gary stu, he is good with battles because...he teaches karate to his pokemon? Okay? Other people ooze him because he defeats everyone so easily. He is good and special just because and everyone loves him for it. He finds extra strong pokemon just because, people want him on their team just because. It's kinda bullshit how apparently he is the top 1% of the new generation with only like 2 months of experience.
About Story:
Feels like a speedrun honestly, the first 2 chapter (especially when i read about the whole family thing) feel like a sidequest of a game, it's there just to give the mc his good guy points i guess and then off he goes to his journey to bitch slap the competition.
The training is done mostly off-screen and the results are a pokemon in steroids out his mind swating everyone like flies.
To be honest the story does not fell like a pokemon fic at all, if it was a story about a isekai monk in a normal isekai setting would make more sense to me.
About the whole league tornament thing:
it's so convoluted for no reason, i feel that is supposed to be something made to cull the weak and untalented from competing in the league but in the pokemon universe isn't the gym leaders job to do that? it just create an infinte amount of small tornaments that just waste time and make the gyms obsolete.
About the starter:
Slakoth is a great and unique ch - KenrioRoyal Road★★ 1.5For some reason even when mc is forced to be a monk and work mc don't care about it and even is happy.
It's amazing how the author don't even show to put effort to make at least believable that mc have a real motive to be a monk even after he is released by them
