- Drjcastle10Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The book was really good, particularly how the characters interacted with each other, although there are some mildly aggravating parts.
The bits that annoyed me were when wil keeps disregarding the offers of demi god/godhood that were given to him.
Apparently I've not met the word limit, so give the book a try, it takes a while to get going but then gets really good after about a quarter of the way in. - sabazurcRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you are reading this review IMO you found one of the hidden gems of this website. Great action, advanture which is actually complete. MC here is a good person doing what he thinks is right but also smart and capable when needed...does not lack flaws and emotional scars either but he walks forward. If you are fan of anti-hero, villain, sociopathic MCs this might not be for you...I never understood appeal of those after decades of reading so this one was right up my alley.
- IrjaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Its good. Very very good
Non OP MC with good moral compass and understanding of dark side of human nature.
So, theres little angst or stupidity by MC.
I just hope author would elaborate more in how this world works
However, theres seems to be lack of explanation of the scale of the empire. Chapter 73 is the 3rd arc n humans seems to be dying a lot in various monster encounter. I guess I'd just chalk it up to birthrate n production rate being higher than death rate.
A pity theres no Smite n Eldritch Blast. - eshfreebiesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just binged the entire 3 books over 4 days. It was amazing, story always kept moving and characters were developed well. I liked that the story kept the focus on the main character without isolating him, and wow, what a progression our character went through. Got to admit I did not see a lot of it coming, but it was marvelous.
I can't recomment this story enough. - Harvest SeasonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Saga of the Twin Suns is a great D&D style story. It includes creatures and races from the game, and the author uses a magic system similar to the rulebook. The novel is set in its own, unique world, with aspects you would see in a D&D campaign.
Style
The chapters are pretty well written, and around 1500 to 2000 words long and they are split into arcs or maybe mini campaigns.
Grammar
Some grammar and spelling mistakes, but i've noticed the author edits the chapters to correct whenever someone points it out in the comments.
Story
The story is good and I find it really fast paced, which I like. So far the author has already resolved a major battle and the MC is traveling to a new location in 30 something chapters. The fast pace means that the story doesn't have a chance to breathe sometimes, which can be a problem.
Characters
The fast pace of the story means that i found the character development suffered. New characters are introduced before the MC has really connected with the old ones.
Overall
The novel is pretty good, and its clearly the Authors first attempt at writing a story. I like the direction its going and i'm looking forward to reading more.
Update
As the novel progresses, the story, characters, worldbuilding and overal writing has come leaps and bounds. - Chris calowRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Thought this book was excellent!. Lovely characters whom are all relatable in some way or another, they feel like people you would meet in real life, unlike some books where the characters are totally unrelatable. The banter between the characters is superb as well.
Brilliant magic system, world building and storyline. Would recommend to lovers of fantasy books. - NotGoodAtNamingRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story is fun and fast paces, not spectacular but enjoyable read.
One thing that really bothered me - the MC is described as a coward. Its a major factor in his personality and even a verbal conflict leaves him shaking. Then he is send into battle and... nothing. He just performs well and fear is a non-factor. - AmeritusRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I waffled back and forth quite a bit on whether to give this 3.5 or 4 stars. Most of the story feels oldschool d&d, almost like reading dragon lance. This could be a plus or a minus depending on your preference. There are minor, but fairly frequent spelling mistakes and grammer errors, but nothing too egregious, just mildly distracting.
However, The main reason I decided on 3.5 were the division of the story arcs. The first and second books (the second especially) feel way too long, not because of the number if chapters, but because they have multiple large and fairly separate story arcs that feel rather forced together into the same book. Either these need to each be separated into their own books (probably each about the same size as the third book) or they need to be more neatly blended together into one arc for book one and another for book two. Instead of the 5 or 6 totally disparate arcs that they are currently.
The ending if the story is what sets the story apart from my initial impressions of it just being an old d&d book clone, it feels unique and different. It is fast paced and quite epic in scope. It feels more 'pierce the heavens' eastern fantasy than traditional western fantasy like the rest of the story.
Overall I enjoyed the story and would recommend it. It just doesn't quite hit that 4 stars level for me. - luda305Royal Road★★★★ 3.5It's fine. The DnD roots aren't that big a deal, and the plot is pretty decent, if straightforward. The main issues are style and characters.
The transitions at the end of chapters are frequently really wonky. They're either very abrupt or they end on a bit of an odd note. It does seem characteristic of what you might have in a game of DnD, which would be fine, but in a book, it's weird.
The other bit if that the characters are pretty flat, even our protagonist. It means I'm not really invested and I'm pretty bored despite the fair bit of action and drama that's already occurred. - Jaller ObrimRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The Verdict: Given the completed state of the story, reasonable level of editing, competent world building, and likeable enough MC, the story is certainly worth reading.
Style
3/5
comments: Writing style was solid and consistent. World building comprehensive without being unnecessarily complex. easily readable throughout.
Story
2.5/5 - pleasant
comments: A fairly standard son of a noble house, but his siblings are cooler than him MC. School setting, check, set out on an adventure because dad is a sterotypical noble, check. Power creep and narrow margin for survival, check. Ascend to god tier, check. There are some pretty significant time skips as the story progresses, almost to the point where I felt like the author just wanted to be done writing the story. In many ways an entirely standard plot, but there's nothing wrong with that either.
Grammar and editing
2.5 - average in all respects
comments: Relatively routine spelling and word choice errors, 1-3/chapter. Noticible but not serious enough to really impact reading enjoyment.
Character Score
3/5 - interesting enough
comments: MC has reasonably relatable personality traits and motivations. He makes mistakes, but usually understandable ones. Logic plays a part in his actions at least some of the time. A fairly standard power creep MC, no real complaints on my end.
