Description
In a world of Magic, Gods, and Destinies; a small family finds themselves forced into a terrible situation. With few choices, they make the ultimate sacrifice so that one can live on in another world. Follow the only survivor of the family as he lives his life, learns of his past, and fights to live up to their example.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hey, I started this side-project a week ago because I've been reading a lot of the popular this week and active top 50 recently at work. Overall, I enjoy most stories on RRL (why I write here afterall :) but I found myself saddened at the overall lack of quality in stories where an MC lives in a game world. It's as if the author's are so focused on the system, stats, and skills that they lose sight of their plot. This makes me sad because I see this as one of my favorite plot devices; how would it affect you if your every action made a real, tangible change in your life.Anyway, I'll be updating this at least once a week (more often most likely since I just started it).Enjoy, ChitP.S. Please Review/Comment/MSG me. As an author, feedback is crucial to my motivation since I'm doing this not just for me, but for you too.P.P.S. - ChipMunsterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I came here from a thread recommending "underrated" stories in RRL. I devoured the brief chapters that are up (four to this day) and I immediately connected with the characters and their plights and motivations. I have a hypothesis about the MC but I will say nothing. ;) The writing is crystal clear, concise, bare, letting the plot do its work -- which is a good stylistic decision in this case. The only thing I would bring into question is the excessive use of proper names when pronouns would do the job, but this is a very minor observation that doesn't detract from the story itself. I am enjoying the story and I hope the author continues updating it.
- God_is_GoodRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is one of the stories that will break your heart and make it want to soar up to the heavens at the exact same time. The story follows the journey of a boy, Michael, as he makes the desicion to give his organs for a girl that he has never met. At first, I won't deny, I was sceptical about it. The decision didn't make sense and it was wildly unrealistic. But the author handles it masterfully, taunting us with hints about what is going on in Michael's life and why he is doing it. We see him interacting with Ana, the girl who will be taking his organs, and it really gave me a sense of horror, fear, and doubt in the pit of my stomach as I wondered what was going to happen to either of them and what is really going on in Michael's life. At the end of the previous chapter, he told Ana he would tell her the truth about himself, and I don't deny it's driving me crazy wondering what's happening. ;) The story is rich with meaning and truth, and I think that any reader who takes the time to read this will come out of it changed.
Do give it a try. You won't regret it. Ever. - MK bk-201Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Damn you author, you have toyed with my heart, now the people reading this shall share my pain, great story, not much more to say, it had a couple of spelling errors but far and few. I hope you can also enjoy this story of sacrifice as i have done.
- RznRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5As the title says, this is all about sacrifice, but the one major thing I could not wrap my head around was the MC. It was this distracting, nagging sort of thing where the prose is suggesting that something is amiss, but nothing manifests. The presentation and lack of clarity around the motivations is significant enough to alter the perception of this piece. I do not think it was intentional, but the introduction here sets up skepticism that runs counter to the main point.
This is more of a personal thing, but I'd mark this as Sensitive Content because of its subject matter based on more than just a technicality here. Though perhaps that was not a thing when this was written. I'll spoiler it, but this a trigger warning and spoiler of perspective.
This seems almost on its face to be about medically assisted suicide. I felt the story set a line of skepticism that at some point Michael would be stopped, or that something was not right. This aspect left unresolved clashes with the intended theme.
