Rolling Stone [Monster Evolution LitRPG]
Community Rating
Description
War rages across the mountainside, glittering phalanxes of mail-clad dwarves fight back unending waves of goblin warriors while dark forces creep through the shadows, taking advantage of the chaos.
None of that matters to Stone. He's a simple pebble, newly awakened and curious about the strange world he finds himself in. He doesn't know the first thing about the unending conflict that engulfs him or the grand machinations of fate that have left their imprint on his very soul.
Why would a rock care about any of that? It isn't nearly as much fun as leveling up.
After all, he might be a pebble, but that won't stop him from rolling toward his destiny, alongside his unfortunately stuck partner.

- Vitaly S AlexiusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A cute tale of a rock rocking it up. Just when you thought there coudn't be a more silly protagonist, here it is - a rock! This book has a tasty dose of comedy and delicious rock-related jokes and all the litrpg elements with adorable, insert stone stat charts. The interactions between Partner and Rock are simply adorable.
Sit down on my stoney lap of a mossy outcropping, dear review reader I'm gong to bless you with some high end digestion of this lovely series.
STYLE: Very tasty, if a bit dry here and there. The dwarf convos are a bit hard to read at times due to the accent. Recommend making them more scottish or something.
CHARACTERS: They're a rock and a spirit! A due combo of hilarity that takes the world by a storm. Since the MC is a rock, there is vast room to progress from crushing tiny ants to conquering the world! Mwa ha ha.
GRAMMAR: Some sentences and words are odd, probably because Dakie's original language isn't English. I struggle with English myself and have to shake down editors for aid with my sentence structures at times. Thankfully Dakie is very responsive to reader suggestions, which is always a bonus point for an author, so the grammar is getting fixed wherever the commenter editors find it.
STORY: The comedy is solid. The jokes made me laugh. Go Dakie! Why won't somebody think of the poor dwarves?! is all i'm sayin'.
OVERALL: It's a nice start, want to see more! Read it and enjoy! - YotroRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A good start to a story which hold great potential to be something big on RR.
I love how the Status screen is ilustrated, it perfectly fits into the theme of the story, adding to that is the Encyclopaedia Stonia which explains stuff the reader may not know and is something I have never before seen in any kind of fiction on RR. The idea of the MC having a incorporeal partner who explains the world to the character and the reader is excelent. Even though the book just began, I expect and am looking forward to, a great ficition with a start this solid. - Mazive GooberRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I honestly want more as it is a great story. I usually don’t finish stories I binge like this that quickly as they are usually have at least 70 chapters when I start binging. I think this is probably the greatest story I have read so far. Can’t exactly pin why I like it, but it probably fills the hole kinda similar story left as I started to read that near the completion so I was severely disappointed when I caught up to that. Anyways whoever read this I wish a good day too.
- YohaoRoyal Road★★★ 3.0So it's a rock but not a hard rock.
I got pretty annoyed a lot of times cause of the characters, I literally couldn't make myself like any of them, I think my problem here is that everybody is just too extreme, every dwarf is super hyper greedy beyond all reason and the own world's common sense, the system is super agressive without any reason, just cause of yes, the one auxiliar Partner whose only job is guide and nurture new heroes is actually borderline agressive, abusive and literally so insane that it begins to infect the rock mc. The rock mc is a chill rock that get so many bad influences that it becomes a dumb teen, that in itself is okay but the repetition of the same things over and over again gets annoying, fast, my other problem with the mc is that it doesn't show it's growth consistently, it shows some intelligence one time but then later it goes back to being dumb, it gets it's intelligence stat to the 60's but it keep acting exactly like it did when it was in the 10's, also it's dependence of others is quite annoying as well, like something happens, the system gives it some notifications, instead of opening and reading what is going on in the notifications it goes look for other people to answer what's happening, it feels like he's absolutely incapable of thinking by itself.
The story is interesting my only two problems with it are that it feels too forced or wasteful sometimes and that it just goes escalating and escalating with no resolution of what happened before, the first is a common issue with a lot of stories, I think that with more experience the author can solve that, Some examples of the problem is stuff that gets spot light or specific POVs like brother and sister dwarf got so much spot light that it looks that they will be important in the future but they end up being just disposable bodies(that don't even last that long btw), two dwarves survive the carnage made by one of the crazy dwarves and go tell what happened but they don't tell th - Vincent1875Royal Road★★★ 2.5I wanted to like the story but it just wasn't doing it for me. The childish gods that feel the need to personalize the messages, the partner that has no chill, the ants that are sapient, the dwarves that don't notice the magic using rock making explosions. It all just seems meh to me.
- alphaReviewsRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Every single character, including the MC, is extremely unlikable. They are all dumb, short-sighted, and grossly abusive to everyone around them.
I found it particularly abhorent when the rock MC learned enough magic / telekenisis to be able to slap the people he teamed up with, as that was a near constant afterwards (as an extremely rude form of communication). That, and telling people to shut up ("LOUD").
I actually had some fun with the antics of the stupidly abusive / mean / self-centered / money-grubbing side characters, but IMO the MC should be better than them (ex: at least be more cunning about how you abuse others and don't give a crap about them).
In the end, I couldn't care less what happened to the self-centered retard rock or his incoherent and similarly self-centered helper, so I've completely lost interest in the story. - SoggyBiscuitRoyal Road★★ 2.0I don't even know where to begin from with this fiction. The premise is certainly nice and there's some novelty because of the stone, though it's still at the end of the day a monster evolution story.
OK, first of all, the grammar. Honestly, it was decent enough at the beginning. A mistake here, a mistake there; sometimes a tense, sometimes spelling, sometimes sentence structure. But it was tolerable. It did, however, gradually become harder and harder to understand what the characters or the narrator were trying to say without multiple re-reads every other paragraph. And at chapter 8 it became so bad i legit couldn't continue because it read like a machine translation of a shitty Japanese light novel. 1.5/5.
Next, we have the style, and I have to say I really wasn't thrilled by it. Way too many info dumps, mainly because the MC is a stone and had to have basically everything explained to him word by word, so he didn't get to learn anything naturally at all. No trial and error, no nothing, his mentor just fed him everything he needed to know about mana nicely. Not to mention the anime-isms I spotted several times, an example being a character "screaming like a schoolgirl," which completely took me out of the story. 1.5/5
The story moves at a breakneck pace, there's no time for the characters to ground themselves. There's also the introduction of multiple POVs and, while that isn't by itself detrimental, even somewhat enjoyable with the ants and rats, when the distant POVs were introduced everything started to make little sense. It all started to unravel and I just lost all interest in what would happen next. On the plus side, what little world building we got up to chapter 8 was pretty interesting, so there's that. 2/5
Finally, the characters. Nothing much to say, really. The MC is a stone that slooowly learns what the hell is going on, but still continues to act like he has 3 intelligence even when he got the stat to 15. His mentor, big L, also acts like a half-ins - PorkRoyal Road★ 1.0The author is a really good writer... but loves to force his story to the extreme for no reason... mutiple glaring plot holes, just to force the mc into a really dumb situation... other than that and the possible typical universe/ world conquering plot it is really good writing... but if you include that and a few other things it is really bad writing. Any i had to drop since it irratated me that much
