Rogue Villain [LitRPG Progression]

Description
After waking up, a young man realizes that he has transmigrated into the world of one of his favorite stories, which isn't all bad. Except for a couple of things. The world and everyone on it gets destroyed at the end of the story. He has transmigrated into the body of Ackster Phileam, an infamous roadside pebble antagonist who gets killed by the original Hero of the story a week after meeting The Hero. And half that week has already passed.
***
The chapters are short (1k words) but since there are, at the moment, two uploads a day, it's still something to read. (Also kind of slow-paced...) (But if you're still interested, despite the slow pace, but can't wait for the action, feel free to skip to the chapter 1-56 summary since that is a pretty clear cut-off between the first part of the story and what comes next. Of course, while the writing afterward isn't as slow, it will still be my writing, and it obviously isn't for everyone :|)
(If you've read this far despite the subpar rating, I appreciate it. But the rating isn't there for no reason. You're still more than welcome to read Rogue Villain, but if you're interested in litrpg, progression, isekai fantasy, may I recommend Triangle Mage, a new novel with hopefully better writing :P)

- isaque miyabaraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Character:Okay... that's good, the protagonist behaves like an ordinary john with an average way of thinking fallen into an unusual/very difficult situation.
At the beginning I felt a certain disdain for the MC, but then I thought "man I would be so bewildered and desperate, that my actions would just be mistakes, he still manages to do it right, stumbling but still do it right
He knows what he has to do and he does what he has to do! BUT he doesn't know exactly what he's supposed to do and improvises a bit.
It's like someone throws you into a jungle after you've taken a course on "how to survive in the wild" a thousand times and we all know you're fuck*d not so fuck*d, BUT still fuck*d...
He's not a villain, but he has to walk with the stigma of a villain, don't expect him to do the same in those villain power fantasy, The title doesn't mean he's going to step on babies.
Grammar: English is not my first language so I will give 5 stars on grammar.
History: A clear story that is not rushed, with clear goals.
So far little world building, but the little shown presented in a simple way and very well done, the logic is good, and for a magical world with skills and such it's like walking a tightrope, the author did this very well.
Style: I like almost all styles, I've read everything from Tolkien to crappy fanfics so it's hard for me to consider a style a bad writing style. - S_WinterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A great start to this story! Although a little slow to start, the action soon picks up and there's a definite sense of urgency considering the character's impending death - if he doesn't do something about it.
Story
A very interesting premise! Many of us have wanted to leap into our favourite story and be part of the action - see the number of self-insert fictions out there - but most of us probably wouldn't choose to be the one person almost everyone hated and who died only a few chapters into the story. This is an interesting take on that and definitely doesn't feel like a self-insert.
Style
The style is very readable, especially in more action-oriented scenes. Some of the prose can drag a little at times, but mostly the information that's communicated is done well. I definitely have a sense of curiosity about the world that's being revealed piece-meal.
Character
I like the character - he's thoughtful and logical, and is clearly a very different person from the previous incumbent. He also seems reasonably well-balanced at the moment - his advantages of fore-knowledge and his potentially OP skill are outweighed by his terrible reputation...and impending death at the hands of the person everyone loves.
Grammar
No complaints here - I saw very few errors. I think there was an 'oversaw' instead of 'overlooked' in one of the chapters, but apart from that, I can't think of any other errors I noticed.
Thanks for writing! - guiltymanRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5the story is decent and the MC is likeable, The reason behind his actions are clear. Early chapter (1-56) are quite slow, it took 17 chapters just for one day , but it gets better after that.
my only real problem is the lack of descriptions when it comes to environment and unimportant things. For example character x takes MC into a secluded room, well? Is there a table? A rug? No it's just secluded room . Another is when the mc buys a set of fancy clothes , we don't even know it's color. And when we get to a city there isn't enough details to visualise it.
another thing is the currency, the mc earns money from a quest, he goes into a shop to commission an armour, doesn't ask for how much and when he comes to collect it , we don't know how much he pays for it , or how much he pays for pretty much everything, except the guild dorm room (it's 1 silver if you are interested).
all in all it's not as bad is I'm making it out to be , so give it a try. It's just hard to create a mental image of what is happening. - AcerbicRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Honestly, I've seen much worse on this site, but I had to abandon this book because of the author's annoying writing gimmick.
He would present a plot item X existing, without revealing it. Then proceed talking about how this plot item X is important, going to extreme lengths to avoid talking about it directly, which makes the flow awkward, given we are enjoing the show from insed the protag's head. Then "ta-da!" the thing is revealed only immediately being followed with a plot device Y, which is also important to the main character, but he would somehow avoid naming it even in his thoughts.
And rince and repeat.
If you are interested, here's the list before I stopped reading:
1. The MC's special ability and what does it do.
2. The "preparations plan" he came up with to fake his own death and what he was looking for in the forest.
3. The shiny thing he took from the forest. - Insufferable WreckRoyal Road★★★ 3.0It had a great story, the worldbuilding is complete and the way it's shown to the readers really paint how vast this world is.
(first time making a review and I don't know how to put spoilers filter in so please beware of spoilers)
And that's the reason it's frustrating, the style of writing focuses a lot on the thoughts and reasoning of the mc, talking again and again of his plans, careful machinations and even more delicate decision making. However the mc always contradicts these plans by derailing himself. He spends many paragraphs talking about the importance of a weapon and he proceeds to fight his first bottleneck monster with his bare fists because a clearly incompetent receptionist said it was easy. He goes on and on about being lowkey but just messes it all up by hastily accepting a date with a clearly reputable receptionist after they had met just the day before, which honestly smells like a scam. The mc shows great reasoning and judgement within his thoughts but displays rashness and impulsiveness in his actions that it betrays the expectations of readers.
It also just thrust the mc into another cornered situation after spending 30 chapters of exhausting plot to escape the hero, only for him to dive head first into the guild.
The style of writing has focused too much on repeated redundant info that gives readers way too much expectations and the author would just suddenly derail you, like a friend driving you saying it's to the beach so you bring your swimsuit, but suddenly takes you mountain hiking instead. You would have been okay with hiking, but clearly not on a speedo or a bikini. All the development that happened were completely reasonable, and even acceptable. However, it became frustrating when the author spent half of every chapter filling you with expectations of the mc's actions that just leave you with so much frustration. - DramamineRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I know the Style and Story score are going to be a bit harsh, and perhaps I might be seen as so too. I've read up to the point the story gets to its LitRPG element. This review will contain some spoilers.
As a quick aside, a lot of my main complaints are summarized from others in the comments section, so I probably won't got overly in-depth.
Style
I really think this is where the biggest issues are. There's just a ton of redundancy in thought processes and word usage, leading to several sentences saying the exact same thing but slightly different, or in some cases, almost the exact same. There's also several points where I feel the author flounders to tell us something, only for the next sentence to almost imply the opposite, and then followed up once more with the original thought.
This can make the writing come off janky at times, and almost inflates the word count.
Story
It's fine. The actual plot is an isekai where the MC is thrust into the character of a book that he had read. As a result, he's privy to its information and has knowledge about the plot. Pretty typical stuff, but that's fine. I don't believe everything has to reinvent the wheel or go out of its way to try and break the mold. Sometimes it's good to just write something with a simple premise and build off it.
Sometimes I feel like its a little too slow, a complaint I've seen echoed. Slow burns are fine, but I think in turning back to the style, there's a lot of redundancies and chapters that could almost be summarized in thought bubbles. Things do move, but it somehow feels like nothing happens.
That said, the actual contents are rough. If you struggle to suspend your disbelief, or are perhaps picky, then you're likely going to struggle with a lot actions in this series. There's multiple points where the author withholds information that the character knows and almost seemingly drags it on. This can be fine if the tease is done well or not entirely relevant for the moment; but something as importan - Ducky_Royal Road★★★ 3.0The MC isn't bad, good even, but the problem is the extreme lack of worldbuilding and constant instances of introducing something or having the mc do something but not explaining why he's doing until later (if at all). it inflates the word count and is frustrating to read. examples being his skill, why he went out the first night and why he snapped ******* fingers. Despite the MC apparently knowing tons of information, we know nothing and that distances readers from mc and is annoying to read. apart from the way author goes out of their way to hide information and wordbuilding it's quite good.
