Description
Bruno finds himself in shock, standing at the bottom of the staircase leading to his family's mansion. He is betrayed, disowned by his father, and thrown out on the street. All that is due to some plot that somehow managed to happen even under his watchful eyes. Somebody framed him. Somebody managed to beat him in his own game.
All he can do now is to find who did it, who managed to outsmart him, and deal with that person, but this is not the end of bad news for the young merchant.
Killed by an assassin he finds out the truth behind all that happened to him from the lips of a merciful goddess and gets sent to a different world with a second chance. A chance he will not waste. A chance to build his own empire.

- Jeffhowell3Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Defiantly Recommend if you like a soft magic rags to riches story with no boxes.
Ignore the first 2 chapters its just step up that doesn't mean a whole lot. Main character is great his main trait is that he is smart put not all knowing by any means which make the story more believable. I really like the pace the author gives detail without explaining everything and keeps the story moving. Side characters are fun and definitely have there on reason or doing things. - Lemes 66Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well this is my first review and I am far from proficient in the English language. I won't even try to talk about the grammar, I'll leave that to those who master the language. That said, I must say that this story was a pleasant surprise, started reading it without much expectations and I'm glad I started this reading. It's an adult story, without those endless implausible blue boxes. There is magic in the world, but it's not as obvious or present in people's everyday lives. The story, despite obviously revolving around the protagonist, is not "only" about him. The secondary characters also have distinct backstories and personalities, are important parts of the story's progress, and aren't just there to make up the numbers. I especially like how the MC starts out poor and weak after his reincarnation. There are no OP powers, there are no gimmicks, the only thing he can count on is his superior intelligence and past life experience. For anyone looking for an interesting story with witty characters but without losing the charm of a fantasy story, I strongly recommend giving this story a chance.
- RoyalRoadReader1Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5I am writing this review having completed book 1 and will try to review the story and my feeling on it up to this point without giving any spoilers.
Before getting into the review itself I feel the need to mention the tags; Without going into spoilers this story is a grimdark novel and contains slavery, sexual content and more. If that is something you find difficult to read, this story is probably not for you.
Road to Empire is a well written fantasy following Bruno, a highly intelligent and resilient main character though not the most empathetic. Most of the story follows Bruno's struggles to survive and rise to power. Though there are multiple POVs used throughout book 1. I particularly like the style MW (MrWriter101) uses. Both the environment and characters are always well described while mostly avoiding info dumps, the POVs are used well typically adding to the main storyline rather than distracting, and I am always aware of what is going on in the story. The story features a well built world that we learn about slowly alongside the main character. I am constantly kept interested throughout the story with minor and major goals always pushing the story forward. I would not call the story fast paced by any means but to really give Bruno's goal of making an empire justice I think that necessitates a bit of a slower pace as he makes connections and grows his skills. I am a fluent English speaker fairly well versed in grammar and didn't notice any major mistakes. That being said I did notice a few typos especially later on in book 1 hence the 4/5 rating. Bruno is well written but... reading a character that is as apathetic as he is can be hard. I like that he has flaws and feels somewhat realistic but it can be frustrating sometimes to see him be so intelligent and ignorant at the same time. The other characters are also well written with their own descriptions, motivations, and skills. Overall I really liked this story and if you can put up with its darker content - OrphicleRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0After 50+ chapters I'm a bit disappointed. The writing is very good but the pace is so slow. Bruno doesn't actually seem to get anywhere and doesn't even have step one of his empire building plan ready: being free. The story is intriguing but the synopsis is misleading. Also what happened to the other characters
