When Riyria is hired to retrieve a jester’s treasure, Royce and Hadrian must match wits with a dwarf who proves to be anything but a fool. Difficult choices will need to be made, and in the end, those who laugh last do so because they are the only ones to survive.

This deserves a five star review. The characters are rich, the plot is tight and interesting, and it's ending and *fun* to read. Reading Hadrian's and Royce's exploits together is so much fun. When I found the short stories here I read through all of them voraciously and it has rekindled my love for the series.
I highly recommend reading the whole series but these shorts are a great introduction for anyone wanting to get a taste of what to expect. (And like almost all of Sullivan's works, they are good standalone but also fun to reread after reading other series in the same world because you catch additional context from the seemingly throwaway references.)

The way they bicker often, but always stand up for each other. Cover each other's backs. And the stories are always interesting, even if the character interactions are so good you run the risk of not paying that much attention.
The combat scenes are also great.
This is one of my most beloved series.

I have a bit of bias, as I've read and enjoyed all his Riyria works. I'm hoping those unfamiliar with his books will be intrigued and find their way to his novels.

Highly recommend the series (Riyria Chronicles) and all of the short stories.
