Description

An isekai action comedy featuring a normal guy who’s just about done with this ****.

All he wanted was some beer and a pack of donuts. Instead, Drake got abducted, tossed into a fantasy world, and almost ritually executed by a pro-wrestler monk with performance issues.

After stabbing his rather idiotic kidnapper to death, he magically inherits the old fart’s massive mansion, servants, mountains of gold, and deadly magic powers... which would be great if it also didn’t paint a giant target on his back.

Now that he’s the lord of Gloomwood Manor, countless enemies seek to kill Drake and take his title. Before that happens, he must learn to use his powerful magic, win his people’s loyalty, and fake being powerful until heactuallybecomes so powerful no one dares challenge him.

Rise of a Manor Lordis a humorous adventure fantasy featuring cat girls, battle maids, political machinations, and a habit of setting the worst isekai tropes on fire and tossing them in the garbage.

Warning:This story contains violence, profanity, maid outfits, male nudity, multiple HR violations, tea drinking, ritual sacrifice, cat girls, men and women who can just be friends, dirty handkerchiefs, threats of testicular violence, accidental stabbing, intentional stabbing, unsexy bondage, compliments that make people uncomfortable, verbal burns, physical burns, highly improbable mixes of armed forces, trees, handholding, and some light cannibalism.

I won't spoil the basic difference between the main character and the people of the world he ends up in (other than of course, that their world has magic and his did not) but I have to say I was a bit skeptical when it was revealed. It is definitely original, but it seemed like one of those things that could give the MC a ridiculous advantage and be difficult to contain within an interesting plot. I was very very wrong, and hats off to the author. Aside from this one aspect, I also like that it is not a video games-mechanic style fantasy world, and that the magic system is well thought out and far from the standard variety.
Interesting society, entertaining characters, engaging story so far. Looking forward to following this one as it continues.

I'll admit that the title reminded me of those badly written Chinese webnovels where the MC is given a manor or somesuch and some cheat with which he becomes OP. And the beginning as well as the strange rules regarding the blood bonds and the whole no-lying made me raise my eyebrows. But I'm glad I continued reading since all of it is really dealt with quite well. The MC has his particular cheat, which, while decently versatile/strong, isn't so overpowered. So he has to use his intelligence and his background, as well as develop relationships with the servants he's inherited, to survive. His interactions with the servants has grown on me a lot as well, once he makes clear what kind of a man he is and they grow familiar with each other.

I was very ready to instantly drop the story as the blurb and premise of the story seemed like your typical discord moderater self-insert power fantasy with harems galore but it has so far been turning all the tropes and cliches on it's head. The characters are likeable and the plot is unique and entertaining, there are some really cool new themes that are hella unique and make it even more fun and overall I would say give it a try and get ready for hilarious randomness. I also like how the MC recognizes how crazy all of this and is constantly giving "wtf is this" and "what horrible things did I do to deserve this" vibes

I loved this after reading the recently published first book in what will become a three book series and so hunted it out here.
The writing is very good with some great characters and if the MC starts off a bit immature he learns and grows as the story progresses. The author has also set out a fascinating world and builds on it as the MC learns about it.
All in all it’s well worth a read

I claim the first written review of this fiction in the name of the Cult of the Stars, and because I wish to mess with the protagonist, I claim it in the name of the noble pursuit of fantasy that LARP-ers devote their life to.
This story is pretty funny and there are not really any issues with grammar asofar as I could tell. As of now, it carefully skirts the line between mishandling the female characters' personalities. That could change pretty easily, but as far as I can tell, the author is not going to go harem and write (too much) from the male gaze. Be careful Mr. Author!
Does a fairly good job of handling the different cultures of our world. I would raise the criticism that there is a certain element that strikes me off. The reactions of the residents of this world to his culture is almost reminscent of the outdated trope of non-European cultures being exaggeratedly impressed or surprised by the European cultures. There is a lack of realism and childishness to the servants' personalities. It definitely is not crippling to the story nor do I think that would bother most, but the subtle parallels are worrying.
Onto the compliments that won't be immediately followed by rude criticism! I enjoyed the crude humor. The awkward situations that he finds himself in are well-described and deeply amusing. So far, the magic system definitely has the possiblity for inserting OP (but more importantly, unbalanced) cheats, but so far, I think it works pretty well. Enjoying the blood theme going on, it works quite nicely. Definitely want more focus on the blood aspect of magic and how it impacts the world. I think that is one of the most unique aspects (in addition to the veros, who I LOVE and want more) of this story.
Keep it up! It's a follow from me.

When I started in on RoaML, I was expecting an occasional casual binge-with-a-bowl-of-popcorn kind of story.  It has exceeded that expectation with every new twist & turn, and keeps getting better.  😎
At first glance, the tale seems like a straight-ahead isekai story featuring MC Drake, who may be a bit too much of an overconfident Gary Stu wannabe, and who may also be on the way to living a standard horny teen boy wish fulfillment isekai life.  All the tropes and plot formulas going along with that stuff get picked up, looked at, thrown in the dumpster, subverted, and re-invented in interesting ways.  As a result, Drake's new existence as a manor lord turns out to be much more nuanced and entertaining than first expected.
Style.  Writing is straight-ahead and clear, with a single point of view.  Drake's snarky perspective as a somewhat hard bitten, overconfident, opinionated, yet mostly well-intentioned USA-sian male is key to how the story is told as well as how the new world he finds himself in is revealed to the reader.  It works well, particularly once the story starts examining and subverting the usual plot elements.
Story.  The story starts simple, then consistently begins layering in characters, plot twists, and challenges for Drake and his manor to face & overcome.  The world of the manor lords is gradually revealed to be harsh, cruel, and intrigue-riddled.  Godlike eidolons impose a handful of non-negotiable rules on society, but other than those, it's a treacherous free-for-all as manor lords compete with each other for resources, magical treasures, and territory.  Drake hates some of the rules and their cruel consequences, but quickly learns that changing things takes more than just moral outrage.
    Grammar.  Yep.
Characters.  The characters and their interactions are really well done.  What's even more well done is how some tropey character interactions are first teased, then very effectively subverted.  Drake is a solid and relatable MC whose perspective

This is currently my favorite story on RR. The characters, especially the MC, are incredibly engaging, the plot is tricky and twisty enough to keep me excited, and the world-building is fantastic, novel, and explained in a clear and timely manner.
There are a couple of issues I would raise, most of which are honestly common serial fiction problems: there are a lot of cliffhangers, for one. There could be some editing for style, some- not sure how to put it- slowing down and adding a bit more seasoning to the dish? A lot of the minor characters are, while interesting and while they have personality, very simple and mostly a piece of flavor nailed to a single plot cog.
That said, the main character is a whip-smart survivor who shows his ignorance of the world and makes mistakes, but has a clear, strong moral compass, a strong drive to succeed at his goals, and knows exactly when to stow his incredible sense of humor and when to take it out and beat someone with it. The other three definitely-secondary characters- two of which are minor spoilers- are all fleshed out with badass traits, strong personalities, and personal flaws. And despite the fact that I can tell the author could do a little better without the restrictions of the format, that's partly because their writing is already so fun and engaging to read. I find myself not interested in dwelling on the story's flaws when I read because I want to see more.
There are some random typos on occasion, but the grammar is otherwise fine.
If you're looking for something a little different- especially if you enjoy stories with politics and weird cultural systems on top of their weird magic systems- this is a fantastic read.

Its only been a handful of chapters, but i'll give a quick semi advanced review of whats been presented so far. I might update this review after the story is more fleshed out. (this is a reupload! My original review got removed because i said swear word!)
Style: Style is solid, chapters are well formatted and written. effectively gets the point across and has a good general feel.
Grammar: Grammar has been perfect, not noticed any faults so far
Story: Finally, the good part of a review! So far the story has been fairly interesting with a unique premise and enjoyable beats. However the latest chapter has me worried, without giving anything away the MC has been seperated from his manor and servants and has to go it alone. Hopefully this is a once of deal, I'm here for rise of the manor lord, not rise of the "Stock isekai protagonist exploring the world" I guess it's to showcase the MC's survival instincts? Regardless the story is quite funny with a good sense of humour and minimal bullcrap!
Characters: Characters so far have been pretty weak, but thats likely due to them not being developed yet.
I will say the author seems to be diving into female anime tropes, which is a very dicey territory. The happy go lucky murder woman, the reserved attendant, the scarred and callous hunter (who is a cat girl) Honestly if these characters dont break away from their cliches you might as well go and watch any stock isekai "comedy" .
Well i'm being a bit too harsh there, the Author has expressed that the MC will have no romantic links which is an absolute god send. No bullcrud harem or annoying romance. We will finally see a story with a dominant male character that is just... friends with women? What a concept! In before the author decides to make the MC attracted to all his maids and start a harem.
The MC himself has a really good morality, mild guilt towards killing enemies but he still doesn't want violence. He's in that great middle ground between "Uncaring baby eating psychopa

I've found this an engaging read - well paced, and only a few grammar errors here and there. There's obviously an effort to give the main characters backstory but they still don't seem very deep. One thing that probably contributes to this is the black and white morality of the world - the MCs friends are 100% good and his enemies are terrible through and through. It detracts some depth to the world but it remains a fun light read.
Edit: some of the later chapter have been a bit more of a drag because of the MC being constantly grieving and angry and also a poor plotting mistake. We'll see if it bounces back.

As the title mentions, despite this being an isekai, there is no system, no status no numbers at all to explain anything,he just has to shank a man and figure things out from there.
The setting is honestly what you would expect of an isekai: fantasy medivial with magic other races, with an emphasis on the eponymous mansion lords. The one extra thing is that in this world, that no one can lie, magically compelled by the gods. Doublespeak and lies of omission not included, only outright falsehoods. So we can expect a bunch of them in the future when it comes to inter-mansion politics at least as long as the Mc is pretending to be normal and not an anomaly who can disregard this.
So far we have yet to really see anything of the world, so far it has been far more character focused, mainly how the mc gains the trust of his servants,  who he effectively freed from magically compelled slavery, so that they don't shank him like he did to the previous lord.
Overall, it is a solid read where we explore the world with the mc as he tries his absolue best not to get sacrificed/stabbed/eaten/frozen, succeeding most of the time
