Description

There are ships in space, strange kiosks selling skill pearls and stranger potions on land, and adventurers saving the world of Wett from seven-year floods. But there isn’t a single bit of luck in Isaac’s pocket. He has no money, the laws of magic — the Boon and Bane he was born with — are restrictive as heck, and his future seems to be heading straight into a dead end when life suddenly gives him a choice:

Stay at home, become a parasite, a neet, a failure, or risk it all, and be like the heroes saving the eternal empire again and again. Become an adventurer, that one-in-a-million ideal of selfless heroism, and see the stars for himself.

There’s schemers and brutal competition to overcome, and friends to make before Isaac can build a build that will shoot him straight past the stratosphere.

Here’s to hoping Isaac can withstand what comes after.

Heyo, YJarex here. I wrote this story with a whole number of inspirations in mind, from pirate stories and Star Trek, Path of Ascension, HunterxHunter, Mouseguard, Bone, and so many stories that dripped with a vision of vibrant worlds and newness. The story is primarily focused on exploration, characters, and progression, so if you’re into that, stick around.

Chapters will be between 2500-3500 words on average, releasing MON/WED/FRI once I'm done posting daily.

What to expect:

- Socially adept main character.- Slow-burn story and progression.- An interesting twist and tradeoff for our protagonist’s power.- Some parts slice-of-life, some parts action.- Meeting new people, places, things, cultures, ideas, etc.- Maybe some romance, but never the focus of the story.

The chapters published as I write this has been well written and the story entertaining and quite different from the other stories I've read here on RR. While the first two or three chapters didn't immediately hook me it didn't take long until the world described made me flip chapters as quickly as possible. And now I'm at the end of the published chapters and will have to wait for the next.
So this is looking like good work, in my opinion. And with this micro review I want to tell others that it looks like a solid story, and the world is something you won't find similarities too in all that many other stories. So we'll worth a look. Just be prepared to read a few chapters before the story really takes off.
If I remember correctly you should read at least up to and including the chapter called "6 Years Later" before deciding if you want to follow it.

For a story that is as yet so short, this one has hooked me quite effectively.
With characters that pull you in and a story that keeps you hooked as you try to binge farther into chapters not yet written, I'd say this is a story worth keeping an eye on.
I look forward to where YJarex takes this beautiful tale.

The story has a nice and long hook, maybe too long for some. The exposition is super long but good and I enjoyed reading it, quite wholesome. The power system looks promising and its not all lit rpgy. The character's are neat. I cannot find a reason to give this anything other than 5 stars

A story where I like the MC as much as their mum? A rare find for sure.
All seriousness though I really enjoy how much thought the author has clearly put into the world building and the power system is simple but flexible. There are no doubt some crazy combinations that exist so hyped for that and how Issac is gonna glow up.
Looking forward to where the catman takes this one.

You can definitely see the inspiration from The Path of Ascension. The writing is high quality, the characters are well done, and the world is interesting. The main character comes across as very average which makes it less enjoyable. I made it halfway through chapter 17. I'll probably come back at some point and pick it back up.

There are some parts of the story that are fun and refreshing to see in a story here, the magic system is interesting and varied, however....
The MC has so little agency in his own journey is absurd
I'll skip past the first few chapters since the MC is a child, and the author himself posted that he realizes they could be removed or condensed
But after the time skip and the MC is a teenager it gets bad
MC doesn't find the rift on his own. Someone else points it out to him for their own purposes
He doesn't decide to go into the rift, his brother has to convince him
He gets accepted into the adventurers trial, but has to rely on his brother to decipher the code
Then, he would have absolutely missed his chance if the captain of the ship didn't burn the note to show the real location
MC would have been wayliad multiple times and missed the trial without his companions saving him
In the first part of the trial MC would have failed twice if not for being carried, literally in the second instance, as he was carried across the finish line by a complete stranger and otherwise would have failed completely
Like I said the world and magic is neat, but I just can't bother anymore with such a completely passive character
