- DreadFaeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Enjoyable so far, read through it without anything that broke my suspension of disbelief. I will be interested in what comes next. I would say the strongest point of the story so far has been the characters and character interactions.
The one concern I will note though is that the story so far lacks the sense of being a space-opera. There is a distinct lack of grandness and scale that makes the world-building come off as a little flat. This reads much more like a space-fantasy/space adventure. But this isn't a make or break and it is still early in the story. - thejoker195Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A well written space opera with characters who make you interested in finding out what happens next with their part in the story.
The prose is clean and easy to understand, the story is full of intrigue and I've yet to come across any grammatical errors. All said i am quite enjoying the story as the mc is to my liking as you rarely get to see a space opera where the mc isn't drunk outta his mind or barely has any leadership qualities but the mc here rather than turn to a bottle for soothe his tortured soul , throws himself into his training and it's nice to just see a disciplined and competent captain in a space opera for a change and seeing fresia come into her own is a delight as well, looking forward to see the crew bond together. Thank you for sharing this story with us and more grease to your elbow. - SPEERoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel handshakes very well. It has all the good editing work for a solid foundation upon which I hope it will continue to build. I Believe that, in good writing, no scene should have only one purpose. A scene that *only* builds character, *only* world builds, or *only* advances polt is mediocre writing. Every chapter thusfar (chp35) fulfils atleast the dual purpose, often more. This doesn't happen by accident. The love and care for each chapter comes through loud and clear.
I'll likely comeback to do an advanced review when more of the story is out, as any complaint at this point feels like a nitpick of very good work.
Edontigney, I can't wait for more! Keep up the great work. - CrustyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If your scifi/fantasy experience goes back far enough, I'd say that this story reads like it was co-authored by Robert Heinlein and C J Cherryh, then subsequently messed with by Roger Zelazny. It is a good story, and a fun one.
Stylistically, it holds true to its roots. It is very different from the author's other currently ongoing story, in much the same way that an accomplished actor is a very different character from one movie to the next. Both excellent, but very different.
The grammar is correct to the point of invisibility. I never notice it, which is the highest possible praise.
The story has been entertaining so far,and I have high hopes for it to continue so. The premise allows for a wide ranging, long running adventure. May it be so.
The depth, and the "aliveness" of the characters the greatest strength of Rinn's Run. The main character, as expected, is strong, (in both the physical and literary sense). The subsidiary characters, the underworld boss, the Chief Petty Officer, even the troubled teenager's mom, come across as real people and not just literary devices.
My biggest problem with this story is the speed at which it is being uploaded. I don't know whether the author is experiencing a block or has other priorities (aka Unintended Cultivator), but this story also deserves some creative juice. - QuintenBERoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like the story and, as with all novels from this author, it is written in an amazing way! Currently there are not that many chapters released yet, but the story is set up in such a way that leaves me craving for more. I will follow this novel closely, and definitly recommend trying it out yourself!
- Hero FodderRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5'Rinn's Run' offers readers a ticket to traverse the boundless expanse of space, led by Kalan Rinn, a humble freighter captain wanting a quiet life who is thrust into a web of interstellar intrigue. The story boasts several commendable qualities while also leaving room for growth and development.
At its core, the narrative revolves around Kalan Rinn, a man of integrity who has concealed his enigmatic past while pursuing an honest existence as a freighter captain. The story's engine ignites when a routine delivery request unexpectedly propels him into a universe of galactic espionage and peril. This premise sets the stage for what promises to be a thrilling space opera.
One of the story's standout features is its unwavering commitment to character depth. Kalan Rinn, our charismatic protagonist, embodies both physical prowess and literary substance. Witnessing his transformation from a straightforward freighter captain to a multifaceted character burdened with a shadowy history is nothing short of enthralling. The supporting characters, including the ex-Chief Petty Officer and the troubled teenager's mother, exhibit a richness and authenticity that distinguishes them from mere narrative tools. The depth and vitality of these characters infuse the story with genuine humanity.
Stylistically, 'Rinn's Run' faithfully adheres to the space opera genre, setting it apart from the author's other works. While both narratives are exceptional, they deliver distinct reading experiences that underscore the author's artistic versatility. The prose remains clear and approachable, enhancing the overall readability of the story.
In terms of grammar, 'Rinn's Run' stands as a commendable example, with virtually no discernible errors, a testament to the author's unwavering dedication to detail. Such meticulousness ensures that readers can immerse themselves in the narrative without being distracted by grammatical hiccups.
However, the story's pacing may benefit from a more consistent cade - Auman5Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5I found this author through his Unintended Cultivator story and I figured I'd give this one a try as well. It's also nice to see more sci-fi on the site. It's breath of fresh air from all the Litrpg and Isekai.
I'm enjoying it as much, if not more than his other story. The chapters are a little shorter than some I've come to expect on this site, but I enjoy the style and don't ramble with unnecessary exposition. There are very few grammatical errors that I've noticed.
The MC is interesting and fun to read about. The side characters started a little one dimensional, but they've been fleshed out a lot as the story continues. The side POVs we've seen so far have been very interesting as well and add good context to the story. Can't wait to read more! - angrycrowRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Love the concept, and the lone wolf hero is very appealing. Worldbuilding is also very cool, a secret sect of elite assasins, givernments and space outposts with tons of intrigue. Writing is nice and flows great, and the dialogue is often entertaining.
One minor thing not to my tastes is it has a bit too much power-fantasy going on, it's not too bad that Kalan is an elite space assasin who can take down a ship by himself (the author does make it seem believable), but it starts getting gratuitous when he constantly meets prideful character and humbles them, through the power he is too noble to apply in normal life (I count at least 4 such encounters off the top of my head which is a bit fuzzy after a while). It just feels a bit one-dimensional and unnecessary.
But still, very very good story. - basmbeeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I have to say, this is a delightful read so far. I've found no issues with grammar or readability, and the characters feel real. I don't normally write reviews, but the characters are sufficiently well written enough that I decided to pause my reading for a few minutes.
In order of the advanced categories, I found the style to be quite enjoyable, my only minor gripe is that sometimes the diction used is a little wordy, and some paragraphs seem intimidatingly long on a phone. That being said, I'm guilty of both of those myself so I can't really critique this all that much.
In terms of grammar, I have no comments to make. Very nicely done, this feels well written and polished.
I once again have nothing to critique for the story. It flows well and is very captivating.
Lastly, the characters. I find it difficult to express how much I love the characters so far. Not just Kalan, but all the(as far as I know) side characters feel so detailed and real. Little hints at pasts that aren't fleshed out in the text but alluded to do wonders for making a character feel fully fleshed out, instead of just another side character. I haven't seen anything quite like it. - DrAltRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5An honest man who hid his past and ended up an honest space freighter captain, making a decent living, is our MC. He can't find a good engineer he can stand. That's changing. Helping the indebted and doing favors for old friends, the MC stumbles into an ongoing galactic spycraft operation. Suddenly that overpowered past matters again, and events were congealing nicely until the story stopped.
Pacing wasn't the best, but the characters were real. Enjoyed what I read of it, and it looked like the author hit writer's block. Would read the finished work. Thanks for sharing, author.
