Description
Miss Ada didn't want much from her life. She wanted a quiet time at her shop, and when the professor from the nearby Magical Historically Black College and University came to ask her to consider being a professor, she balked. She didn't really want anything that he had to offer.
But perhaps it could help with her Resting Lich Face.

- Chaos JesterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Resting Lich Face (hopefully followed by similarly named sequels) starts off delivering what exactly it promises: a quirky, satiracal play on magic school stories. Add in a cozy mystery level intrigue, and you have the makings of a decent piece of fiction.
They style itself has the feel of a cozy mystery, though judging by the content, it doesn't technically get that subgenre category. Still, it hooks the reader in with a classic short term mystery then focuses on the character and world to drive the plot as the mystery unfolds. It's a classic structure which Weaver utilizes without playing into the same tired tropes. My only gripe is that I think the dialogue needs more action with it to keep it less back and forth, but I do the same thing, so eh.
Grammar is simple. Nothing specifically took me out of it. Syntax and structure work well, typos are few, and punctuation is nailed. Easy as.
The story itself is interesting for the concept. A build up of clues while also developing the characters and interactions with each other while also structuring the world around dialogue. It makes for a great premise for the style of story being told.
The characters are uniquely themselves within the context of the story, fulfilling their role with aplomb and have interesting features to make a reader want to know more about them. Miss Ada makes for a dry humor main character, which fits the overall atmosphere of the story well.
Overall, Resting Lich Face is a fun, light read. It fits that cozy mystery feel without resting on the same story overused story structure while also bringing in outside elements to liven it up. - TealiciousTeaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A chill mystery with cool characters and an interesting world realised through the lore of our wizards.
A fun little short fiction at the moment. It is slow spaced but deep with character dynamics and subtle world building. All in all a very interesting and unique read.
The first chapter has some excessive paragraph spacing but all other text is good in terms of style and grammar.
