- ipleasedontRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I read the entire series on amazon and I highly reccomend it. I cannot wait for the next book (book 4) to come out.
If your interested in a MC that is not a moron, can think things through, and is personable, then you'll love this guy. Also the world is so interesting with all the little things thrown in. - The CommentatorRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So, I'm going to go more in depth here than I have in some reviews, and that's mostly because I have a lot to say, mostly about the story and characters.
Ok, first, for the style and grammar. They're pretty average, with the grammar being slightly above the Royal Road average, but not good enough for five stars. I only give five stars to completely flawless grammar.
Now, for my actual review. I think this is high quality fiction, and there are a bunch of reasons for that. First, the story. This is clearly an incredibly well thought out story, where the author knows exactly where everything is going. There is no filler, at least not that I could tell, and each event has a purpose, even though I don't know what it is yet. For example, there were a couple of things in the first book that paid off in the second. I'm not going to go into detail, because this is a spoiler free review. Second, the magic system. I have to say, I really like it. I like the use of the system, and the magic being in the form of notes. I also enjoy just how soft and hard it is at the same time. It has ironclad rules, with loopholes that only a smart character would be able to figure out. Luckily for me, Levy is a smart character. If I would say one thing that's against it, it's that some of the note combinations don't really make sense. I play piano, so I got curious about some of the chords and played them. Only the common ones actually sounded good. Now, for my third reason, the worldbuilding. It's not anything groundbreaking, but it's done well. Levy is a poor, backwards commoner, or at least he used to be. He doesn't know much about the world, and we get to learn about it with him. Granted, even at the end of the second book, we really don't know much. But that doesn't actually play against the story. Anything we need to know, we're told, and that works out well. Lastly, the characters. Like I mentioned earlier, Levy, the MC, is smart. He's figured out how to game the system. While some of - Infinite42Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Read it on Amazon as well, I really liked the mc and while the magic system was a bit confusing in terms of what made it advance, the story is really engaging. I love engaging crafting novels and I like that the enchanted class here is different than I've read before. Looking forward to the next novel.
- RikkiUWRoyal Road★★ 2.0There's nothing wrong with the MC apart from the fact that he's (perhaps understandably) naive at the beginning, but neither him nor the story pulled me in either. The author seems to have been trying to do something 'different' with the magic system as well, operating based on music theory instead of numbers, but it's never explained. This all added up to me feeling like an outsider listening in to a conversation I had no context for. It just wasn't interesting. Gave up in chapter 7.
