- The Bus LurkerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The first four or five chapters are a little janky, and somewhat confusing, much like Super Minion or Simulacrum. However, once you get past that, and the mc starts to find some of his footing, the story really begins to open up.
The story is an off meta "save the world" type of deal. There are many familiar tropes, but the way that they're executed is new and fresh. The mc reminds me a bit about the guy from hitman games, agent 47. With a surprisingly intereesting voice to help him along. (Obviously he's not a trained killer, but a mix of stealth and over the top violence is the mc's go to for solving problems)
Typically I HATE HATE HATE when a godlike entity aids or assists the mc. However, it's done in a manner that the mc is relatively balanced for the world, and creates a good mix of shenanigans, serioussness, and drama. I also enjoyed how the mc had an interesting dialogue about morality. It's something most SI's/Transmigrators/Isekais never think about. Very cool. That said, the only weakness I want to point out is that the mc's companion tells the backstory of every character of any importance, and this can be jarring, and immersion breaking, hence the 4 stars on style score.
Overall, you should read this story. I never thought Simulacrum or Super Minion would get as popular as they did when I first read them. This story, this author has the same feel. IK it's a RR cliche, but I sense great potential in this one. - MommaschunkymixRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0You throw a selfish, realistic person into a bullshit anime world, make them have realistic motivations. What I really love about this novel is that there are no idiots, except for those who apply to tropes. The main character doesn’t make stupid decisions, yet still faces actual challenges. Please give a read
- Peculiarflame86Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you read this, you realise that the majority of isekai that involve Gods, literal forces of reckoning and rapture, somehow always get trumped by a mortal they summon? Not here.
Here you have a god that knows exactly what he summoned, and is an absolute God about it. Theres already a hundred chapters here, and never once have I doubted the godliness of these gods.
And the Transmigrator isn't some teen with a cheat that somehow beats a god. He's just a guy trying his best.
And the characters. By golly, does the author manage trope use wonderfully while somehow making them all seem so real and personable.
This book isn't a breath of fresh air for isekai but hurricane. - Reader X1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an isekai story that has never, ever been written before. It goes against every single established convention in the genre. And it succeeds.
Another reviewer compared this novel to the game Hitman, but I feel that is not a completely accurate description. This novel is more like the notorious game Drakengard. With a protagonist that is amoral and fond of over the top violence, a cast that is interesting but generally unlikeable and a plot that as you go deeper, reveals itself to be completely insane. There is a reason why nobody has discussed the plot of the novel in the reviews. Because if anyone actually talked about the plot, they would sound like a crazy person. The reason why everyone accepts the plot is because the novel has very strong world building and despite all the insanity, it never breaches the internal logic the novel sets for itself. Everything makes sense in universe.
Like Drakengard, the novel uses the violence and insanity to ask philosophical questions about morality. And here's where a couple of problems arise. The novel's tone is deeply cynical and you may feel upset or betrayed at the message the novel drives at. (TLDR: Strength beats spirit everytime) The novel implies that living as a successful hypocrite is superior to doing the right thing. And implies that the fear of retribution, not virtue, is what stops people from going crazy and living their life by Grand Theft Auto rules. A central theme is the nature of power, where a major character makes several observations which can be extremely upsetting.
The novel's triumph is in making these discussions incredibly morally ambiguous, with no clear right and wrong answer. Even the most distasteful comments made by a major character (and trust me, that major character is full of bad takes and general nastiness) can be sort of justified. The world in the novel is also grey and the central conflict of the story is all about agendas rather than good vs evil.
The characters of the story are - DecrepitRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Not gonna ruin the story by telling you about it but I advise you read it as it is a really good book
- TheUncannyMageRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Man nearly dies, man lives, man has to engage in over the top violence to save the day with the help of God. A classic story of an isekai protagonist done right. No more over the top fireballs or harems, just over the top C-4 and making sure all that ends well is best for the powers that be.
It's a great way to breathe life into a nearly dead horse and the fast-paced action keeps the story going without becoming exhausting.
Grammar is great and I've made more spelling errors writing this review than I've seen from this story.
The story itself has no inherent flaws or prurient disregard. It's a bit of an action flick that'll be the one movie you bring home this year, brilliant and fun.
The only weakness are the characters, who by the nature of their existence, are pawns in the hands of God. Real fun though to see the typical, clueless protagonist party be played like this though. Obvious and blatant to contrast the games being played behind the scene.
All in all, you should at the very least give it a day's worth. - wooblzRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0As stated by the Author this novel's premise is that is subverts classic Isekai tropes of a hero being summoned by a god.
I think that the author makes a compelling main cast of the MC and "The Voice". Both the interactions and the distrust between the two are played up well and makes each arc enjoyable.
I couldn't give this novel a 5 stars because the premise inherently limits the story.
Because this novel is almost a satire on the Isekai genre, many of the characters we follow are intentionally generic hero and heroine. Obviously, as a reader I struggle to connect and see meaningful relationships between characters. But furthermore, the MC doesn't make any meaningful connections with people, which inhibits meaningful relations. This lack of connections makes sense in the context of the story, but it doesn't make it better.
Secondly, the world building is somewhat expansive but at the same time it feels disconected and I struggled to see the world as a world, but rather a fake world made up by the author that MC happens to inhabit.
Overall, I thought the journey was enjoyable but due to limitations in both the characters and world, I struggle to give this too high of a score. - Sanity ClauseRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is a very odd story - the premise is original (AFAIK), the characters are believable, the plot is... well, strange. I'm enjoying it.
- clarigoreRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0i just finish this in one setting (from start to finish with no breaks) even tho im sleepy, im to amazed ..this is one of the best stories on 'royalroad'
also i might be wrong but this novel is missing the genre "drama" and tag "multi lead characters" (more on that in the spoiler)
overall this has everything and it was written pretty well aswell, im not good on compliments (would pour my thoughts in the spoiler)
anyway i would recommend for people to read this!!
first of all lets get the things i dont like but still i enjoyed because it was balanced and well written.. at first when i read about the hero and his harem, it really throw me off because i dislike harems and its illogical drama with all the attention seeking and balances that character make to fit in the harem..
soo reading about MC trying to help a 'hero' to get laid was bad in my taste but i kept reading and was amazed .. even tho there were chapters that i didnt like (be it flashbacks or heroes/heroines or some side character..etc) in the end it was interesting enough for me to continue reading nonstop until i finished the whole 217 chapters 🤣 .. anyway moving on ..
the author did really well on both brining the stereotype and generic stuff /plot of a hero and his harem... and on the other side there is the MC that is the opposite which brings kind of balance.. then there are beings (tyrant/lady) that push the narrative towards their own goal and then there are other side characters that try to gain benefits and the interactions to everyone else.
sigh .. honestly i wanted to write a whole ass page (or 2) about how enjoyed this but my mind is burned out and im too sleepy ..
welp .. thanks to the author for writing this , and im off to bed 🤣 - Lord PongRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5With poor characters bar one. The plot twists are great and the worldbuilding is done perfectly. It's a great novel if you like to read things which are different than your usual stuff. The voice is a great character and I kneel at it's cruelty. The entire premise revolves around how little free will the characters have so if you're a reader who focuses more on characters and their motivations you will be sorely dissapointed reading this. It's quite a dystopian world, and I was very thrilled to see how demented the gods got as each chapter went on. Marvellous execution of Indifferent Gods.
