Many years ago, magic, magical races, and creatures left the world humans called Earth, and restricting access to the planet from all who would wish to enter.  These magical races and creatures faded into myth and legend becoming tales humans would tell each other for entertainment. Little did the inhabitants of this vast world know, the magical races and creatures would one day return. Brought back to earth, these magical beings can choose their own way.

Humans must once again learn how to craft and survive facing constant attacks without their previous technological weapons and advances. Will they be able to make alliances with magical races that are only myth and legend?  Defend what they call home and the people they love from the monsters that emerge from the dark?  One hope humanity has for survival, is the one who brought magic back upon the land. The mage who can claim territories as a Contender, Lord Shea.

UPDATE 17 Jan 21:  I am working on writing more of the book and intend to post more as often as I can.  I will try and post new chapters weekly.  I am writing in my spare time with a full time job, and four kids.  Fortunately, I have a wonderful wife who helps me a lot or I would never get anything written.

Only read the first 3 chapters and it has me hooked so far. Seems like the Mc will be a mage type but gonna be interesting to see what happens. Look forward to seeing how he interacts with the other challengers. Also like how the Mac and the author have similar jobs.

This is a classic setup, with our planet taken over by an RPG system. Here, the challenge is that lots of other races, including monster races, appear and unless humanity gets its act together, we are going to be wiped out. The MC has a military background and gets going right away, unlocking powers that mean he's ahead of the game (and therefore the interesting character to read about, story wise).
There is lots of detail on the game mechanics, which I like.
For fans of Xander Boyce's Advent.

The writing is high quality. Good grammar, the story flows.
There's only 8 chapters out, and I didn't spot any show stoppers. MC is pretty rational, things happen for a reason, and people act as one would expect.
However, the story reads like it was made in a litrpg focus group. It doesn't have a single original idea. Like a checklist:
✔ Ex military background for MC.
✔ Generalist magic swordsman MC class: weapon skills, fire and water magic, stealth and night vision.
✔ Hints of territory management and base building in the future.
✔ First monsters are goblins, gradually moving up the chain.
All in all, it felt like I read this before numerous times.
