    ★★ 1.5
Style: Pretty bad.  I feel like I have whiplash reading this.  Additionally, there are many turns of phrase which are wholly inappropriate for the setting.  And, based on the existence of a fourth wall break, there is a suggestion that the story consists of the protagonist monologuing to the audience.
Grammar: Pretty bad.  Punctuation is decent, but word choice and sentence structure are problematic throughout.
Story: The synopsis needs to be reworked.  It actually purports to be a mini-prologue, filling in background to the protagonist... none of which is relevant in the first several chapters.
The author has a weak grasp of what is developmentally appropriate for children.
Several features of the plot seem to exist solely because because of the author's wish-fulfillment. On the other hand... there does not seem to be a plot.
The Soulmark concept is interesting, but nearly entirely disregarded.  The main use it has is to provide an excuse for the government to abandon the children in the forest (which is an odd responses).
Additionally, there is at least one fourth wall break which is uncalled for.
Characters: The protagonist almost immediately comes across as misogynistic and incestuous. I also strongly suspects he suffers from the Dunning-Kruger effect because he believes that a small advantage in reading somehow outweighs zero skill in math.  Additionally, some of side characters suffer from acting inconsistently, either with their personality or with what they should know about the world at large (the parents complaining about the law comes to mind).
