Rei:Incarnation - Forlorn Roots

Description
I live a relatively quiet life, but I’ve been seeing weird ghosts walking around the city. Yet no one seems to notice them. All of them seem to ignore me, except for a humanoid-goo one that’s falling apart. At night, it stands outside across the street from my apartment. At school, it never enters the building. It just stands there and watching. It was jarring at first, but I got used to it watching me… Until that day a stranger came to our apartment asking some weird questions. Which is weird since I got a strange email earlier that day. Things got out of hand from there and I died, I think. I don't know. But death isn’t the end. I stand face to face with a skeleton, “Bad news, you died. But the good news is that you’re technically not dead.” According to common sense, if a shady undead creature offers you something for a price, you shouldn’t accept it. But… I mean… Living is nice… Mostly. So, I accepted the offer and got reincarnated as a girl… Could’ve been worse.
Oh, but it does.
Who said that?
Little does she know that she’ll cause a chain reaction that will forever change the world and her life.
Wait! What?
Oh nothing, just a little bit of foreshadowing.
You can’t just say something like that and just ignore me!
What was that? I can’t hear you! Fading away…

- Marcus BreezeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a great start to an epic fantasy. There is still a long way to go at the time of writing this review, but I think that this will be a story worth following. I have always enjoyed stories where the main character I reborn into a new world, and bonus points for them having a body completely unfamiliar to the one they had before.
Character – This is where the story shines the most. The main character is entertaining and interesting, catching your focus with just a few lines of dialogue. They are irreverent in a way that will make you chuckle, and makes you look forward to how they will handle future situations.
World – Not much here yet. Most of the story so far has been setup for the future, but what I have seen is good. I always enjoy fantasy settings and it looks like this story will be set in a fantastical world.
Style – The authors style works hard to keep the tension and mystery of what is happening high. This can be really good if done right, but a few extra scene setup and descriptions would not hurt.
Grammar – No major issues I could find. Nothing that distracts from the story. - Ariadne_YarnRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I have never read a comedic story before and I don’t really know how to rate this. It’s about the MC reincarnating but it’s written intentionally in a comedic manner.
1. Story.
The story has two parts. (1) The dreams where the main character interacts with “Death” and his crew. (2) The new world where the girl is reincarnated in; A world with different races and abilities? I don’t really know where the story is going but this story is never really about the story, more about the comedy. So for that, this story doesn’t really matter as long as you have fun. In all seriousness, I will only give the story a rating of 3.5 stars. I won’t read this for the story. No but I will read it if I wanted comedy.
2. Style. (Based on its comedic aspect)
This style is very simple and straightforward. It flows well and makes it easy to read. Most importantly, it’s written in a deliberately hilarious way to trigger laughter in you. It didn’t work for me but I think it was still pretty good. 4.5 stars!
3. Grammar.
The grammar needs some editing for sure. 3.5 stars.
4. Characters
The characters seem interesting. It’s hard to connect with them when we jump around between different scenes. But there’s definitely potential so 4 stars.
5. Closing.
Rated 4.5 stars but it's more like 4.25 stars. If you are looking for a light-hearted and comedic story to pass some time, this is for you. Other than it’s comedic value, I really don’t see much point in reading it. Still, it’s comedic aspect is something worth reading. Give it a try and you might just like it! - BullerRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Or maybe that's an unkind way of seeing it. One could describe the story more as something that has tropes, is mildly edited at the maximum, and has a style that leaves desire in those with standards. Not that you really need things like that since it's another for the pile, skimmed through with the slightest of focus, and enjoyed with the most absent of minds. I would say something about errors even being seen in the summary of the story(and maybe in the title. Not too sure about that one), but I think that each could make their own deiccion. 4.5/5 from me, even if it might fit better into the 4/5.
- Poached_EggRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This story is trying to be a more lighthearted, semi-comedic take on isekai. It's grammar is sub par, it's jokes either land and give a smile, or they miss (and it really misses when it does miss) and give an eye roll. Ultimately, it's a very readable and inoffensive story, for the first two chapters. Then the third chapter hits and the well-paced easy going fun of the first two chapters is thrown off and it starts to get pretty messy and takes a really odd tonal shift, which threw me off enough to make me elect to make my stopping point there. I can definitely see there being an audience for this, but I think it needs some cleaning up first.
- S.N. KeirsteadRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Perhaps this isn't my genre (I've never really read any reincarnation stories before), But I've read up to "ω" and I couldn't help but be confused. I'll give the writer the and story the benefit of the doubt and assume that everything will make more sense the further it goes on.
But besides that, this story has it's share of strengths and weaknesses.
Strengths: There are moments that got a laugh out of me. The narrator is very blunt and says whatever is on their mind. Because of this, they say some relatable things that readers can appreciate.
Weaknesses: There is still some editing to be done. A few incomplete sentences here and a few missing or extra periods there. It shows.
Not quite sure what the plot is. All I know is that the main character reincarnated after dying as a high schooler into a baby girl whose mother happens to have a scorpion-like arm that grows out of her back? Again, I'm not familiar with the genre so maybe something like this is par for the course.
Overall: I'm sure there are people that will find this enjoyable. But I'd recommend giving it some time to build up first.
EDIT: After reading more of the genre, I now understand that reincarnation as a baby is a more common theme than I thought it was. Having familiarized myself a bit with the theme, combined with the author's re-write, I've updated my score. The story is more coherent now and it's easier to follow what is going on. The narrator's voice is more consistent and easier to understand. Definitely a step up from the older drafts. There is still a lot going on and can be a bit confusing for a new reader, but I'm sure it will be explained later on. Grammar has also been improved.
