She lived in a sect, fought in tournaments, and cultivated to spite the heavens, as a cultivator should. Embarking on a new path, Raika will find strange secrets, hidden paths to transformation, and abandon humanity, sanity, and the rule of the Empire to become something far stranger and far more powerful than she ever thought possible. In a world replete with enslaved Daemons used as WMDs, reality-bending powers, eldritch-punk technology, and strange pathways of cultivation and magic, she'll have to find allies, confront gods and monster, and defy the Heavens, her own body, and common sense to find a way to become something new.Facing a millenia-old Empire rife with corruption and unknown plans, impossible horrors from the edges of the world, Daemons, Witches, and her own broken soul, she won't stop until she's become truly free- but what will it cost, and can her insanity match the madness of the reality itself? What to expect:Slowburn power progressionExpansive worldbuilding and complex storyWeak to Extremely strong protagonist with a unique powersetComplex villains and charactersA raging bisexual of a protagonistMutants, madness and mayhem, oh my!This story is designed to add lovecraftian cosmic horror and weirdness to a Xianxia setting. If you like some biohorror, self-modification, well written violence and geopoliticsunder the eyes of ancient, alien beings, this is the one for you, darlings!

- snorkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I genuinely look forward to every update of this story. I've only spotted a couple of typos, and the characters are compelling and their stories offer an intriguing amount of growth. The author strikes a good balance between Raika's madness inspiring her early in the narrative and balancing that out with the theorizing and discoveries from later on. Book two (especially the tournament arc) is probably best read in one go so that you get the emotional payoff, but it's worth it. I liked the subtle, hidden threat of the antagonist. I also quite like the setting and can't wait to encounter more eldritch beings :)
- NeutralQuartzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a very simple equation if (Protagonist = An Half-Insane Fucked Up Anarchist Abomination) I'm in 🫡
Otherwise, There's something beautiful in looking both an endless void & a horrible society in the eyes and still saying that the little people matter.
iTS ALSO REALLY REALLY COOL, AM I AT 50 WORDS YET? WHO KNOWS! - Polvane the EraserRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The average person and even the average cultivator of the Empire are relatively ordinary human beings, with relatively ordinary needs, wants, and behavior.
A significant but still less than half of the characters in this story is average.
Then there are the outliers, the outcasts and outlaws, and the high officers of the Empire itself. They're all nasty or weird or both. They also comprise the majority of the characters.
Raika used to be an ordinary cultivator. Then she got crippled. Unfortunately for her, she survived long enough to become crazy. And then she got both better and much weirder.
As a result of becoming more powerful and also weirder, she was inducted into a government department for weirdos of cultivation and run by nasty and very cruel officials of the Empire.
This story is running over with weirdness and nastiness. It's painful at times but also a very good story.
I think I like the average people best like Li Shu and Hao Nera. They're a palate cleanser after a banquet of odd and painful flavors. - RedolissaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book is fantastic for people who want to see the main character become a monster in human form yet retain all of their sensibilities and still be a decent person, but not to the point where it feels forced, Raika is not a saint after all. The characters feel genuine and are well fleshed out, they are all their own people, not just bland copies of the same person used to fill out story. Of course the main character: Raika is the focus 95% of the time (wouldn't want it any other way), and overall her story is meaningful and satisfying to watch. Seeing her grow from basically a someone disabled to what she becomes later makes this one of my favorite stories. The descriptions of the scenery is honestly, probably the best on this site, the way the author can craft an image in your mind is very impressive.
The only issue I have is the deadline that is forced onto her
BIG SPOILER: basically what I mean above is that the emperor, or what ever he is, is destroying the world to fuel his ascension, and he seems to have some power over time. So, his ascension is almost definitely going to happen, which means the world is going to be destroyed, unless of course our MC has anything to say about it. BUT the big problem here is that there is probably only around a decade before this all comes to fruition. Raika is pitifully weak compared to the emperor and in a world where people have been around for centuries to get as strong as they are what chance does our little MC have against the strongest of them with only a decade. Now while she has her advantages this is pushing it. I personally think that at the current point in the story, Raika needs some time to explore her powers and herself on her terms, not with some horrible ultimatum bearing down on her, as she has just escaped the people who were limiting her growth. The way it is now takes away some of the satisfaction and wonder, because if she doesn't hurry up everyone is going to die. It would've been nice to see her go o - SevenAngelsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0hi! so I just wanted to say that so far I’ve been really enjoying the read. I especially adore the little author‘s notes before and after every chapter
im not sure how to explain it but it just feels so nice being able to see the author‘s thoughts, glimpses into their life and their recommendations! (got a LOT on my reading list now) - milkman7121Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a truly fantastic work, one that updates often and shows no signs of slowing down. I’ll admit I’m a bit concerned there; I’ve had far too much experience with authors who started strong before burning out. Other than that, though, the fiction is great, tightly written prose with some excellent and complex characters. Give it a try. I am no longer suggesting.
- newprotagonistRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is brilliant. Just effing brilliant. The writing is alive and the characters are there and the story has wonder and humour and momentum and style.
I'm not that far in, but so far this is the best thing I've read on this site since Kitty Kat Kill Sat, and the sheer pull of the story reminds me of when I first ran across Like Lightning.
The prologue is a little self-indulgent (could be trimmed down, methinks), but if you don't hate the flow of words there, stick around. - AeoleoneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story does an incredible job, in my opinion, of exploring body and Eldritch horror alongside a variety of other backdrops.
I really can't recommend this enough; the author has a wonderful capacity to create a world that truly reads alien and yet familiar. I'm over two hundred and forty chapters in and still eagerly awaiting updates. - BooktheDMRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't normally really enjoy eldritch horror style fiction. Luckily I was on a bit of a Xania buzz and decided to give it a shot, or I might have missed this gem. Don't let the eldritch mention throw you off like it almost did me. The writing and characters make it well worth it.
It's the humour that makes this one so damn good. The right balance of sass and badass, and not stupid gifted some cheat badass, the "I've got nothing but screw you, I'll stab you in your stupid face after I sharpen my nothing" kind of badass, and also that kind of humour.
Give it a go. - KaimeraBluRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story follows an up-and-coming cultivator who doesn't know when to quit.
Anything.
Not cultivating, not fighting, and not running her mouth to impossible-to-beat monsters who steal their juniors prizes.
I'm sure you can imagine how well this ends ... and begins
Because by some quirk of fate, the MC doesn't die. One of her sect mates pays for her to be treated at a moral hospital, because the disturbing truth is that she will never recover. Finally, she is shown the door to the hospital when the money runs out and most of the healers expect that to be the last they see of the poor damaged wretch, she will surely die before the next winter finishes.
Except ... she never gives up
I would highly reccommend this story. The storytelling is tight, the mood contains a nice bit of humor, but not enough to make it into slapstick. The characters are reasonably well constructed, but if the author has a weak spot, that's what it will be. Still, it's not enough to detract from the other sterling elements. This is truly a story that I don't want to put down. You hear that about stories a lot more than you encounter it.
