Our Story here started with a relaxed guy wanting to live life and be strong enough for him to not worry about things using a cheat skill of having Pokémon in the HunterxHunter world.
(Memo btw Gardevoir starts as his first Pokémon, given the story title, but as the story evolves, it hardly focuses on Gardevoir much at all. I know that'll not sit well with everyone, so warning here)
Unfortunately, as the story goes on,pur protagonist feels more like a xianxia face slap meme. He shows up, everyone is amazed at how awesome, handsome, and sometimes how wealthy he is... and then he wins and everyone talks about him some more. End of chapter.
Rules feel loose, restrictions don't feel restrictive, and MC is broken to the point I struggle reading the paragraph fluff about how cool he is.
If you enjoy power trip fantasy style martial arts, face slap galore, battle heavy stories where MC is the best thing since sliced bread.. well this is your story.
I cannot recommend this though. The story forgets to GIANT details. Larry, our titular anti hero here isn't all that strong. It is mentioned very early on that he could train himself, but that isn't his style. He then trained enough to use like 2 basic techniques and hasn't ever been written to pursue it further.
The strength he wields is his Pokémon's... to steal a Chinese saying, he is hugging that golden thigh. So I can get handsome comments, but he isn't powerful, his ability is....
Which leads to my second GIANT issue. In a story taking place where there are master assassins... no one targets the summoner/ caster. It is never mentioned with anyone why they wouldn't target MC. Occasionally we get a mention of MC almost being in the blast radius, but getting Teleported by insert title mon, which pretty much is just his get out of danger free card now.
I could only smell so much of the smoke the author is blowing South of Larry before I started coughing from the mental gymnastics.
