- Thedoctor1787Royal Road★★★★ 3.5Having read all current chapters I have to say, this is a decent fiction. It's a great idea with good execution. There are a few hiccups with definite room for improvement, but overall well worth the time. MC is most definitely OP, but amusing with interesting side characters. Set-up is a little hurried but done adequately with NO glaring holes, it just assumes you are familiar with Merlin as a character. OP-ness is easy to understand, because well he's freaking merlin in a world with a ton of mana. The only real complaints I have is that Tethys' character arc is a little rushed and unbelievable with the quick change in ideology. I find her and Villson's dynamic and magical apprenticeship interesting and would like it explored more. Otherwise the story is progressing nicely. I am looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Side note: Story progression has absolutely nothing to do with character "power-ups" or an increase in combat effectiveness. It CAN be a feature or catalyst, but in any good fiction it should not be the main form of story progression or change in a character's arc. (only exception being if the change comes with a major ideological epiphany or intelligence boost. ISSTH does this extremely well)
