Description
Youjo Senki/Psychonauts crossover.
If you had told Tanya she would enter the military before the notice of conscription came in, she would have laughed at you. It was a recipe for dying young. Now, in her third life, she can try to at least pretend to be an intelligent child rather than rushing for enough status to not be put on the front lines of a war.Of course, this is far from an easy thing, given that it's the Cold War, and they're surrounded by literal mind readers who specialize in espionage. But they can do nothing but try their best. This story is now Complete.

- HeavenlyReaderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Always love a good Tanya fic, very nice job on mixing psychic shenanigans and Tanya’s and Merry’s complicated past, loved the epilogues but wished that Mary and Tanya stayed together in their reincarnations and became gods together instead of Mary just letting herself get soul wiped. Otherwise this was an amazing experience, I’d love if you kept writing more Youjo Senki stories, I’d love if it was Tanya in Pokémon, already read the other one and it is peak too. You also showed off a lot of fun ideas in the epilogue sections for more stories too. But otherwise thanks for the chapters
- SirRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story for at least 2 days straight -maybe more I lost track of time- grabbed my brain and strangled it.
The first section of this book is for sure the best written, however, Ifound myself enjoying the following parts more, in retrospect.
While this story is a bit of a powerfantasy at some times, -Tanya's a magic war Vet. after all- it's in a good way, and only occasionally at that. Unlike what you normally associate with a power fantasy, people don't bend over backwards to sing Tanya's praises, and Tanya is not a Mary Sue, does she get lucky sometimes? Yes. But's she's never simply the best, she makes mistakes, she suffers serious consequences for them that affect her even long after she made them story wise. every desicion matters, right or wrong. (also Tanya has no meta knowledge, which helps a lot in keeping her grounded with the rest of the verse)
I must be truthful and say I have not consumed any form of psychonauts media, game, letsplay, anything. So I'm not sure how many lil references and cool thigns I missed out on, but I also can't say what wouldn't make sense for the characters in the world.
What I can say is that I througaly enjoyed the mechanics and thematic of the verse mattering so much to how Tanya lives. It's just Tanya, War Veteran and former Corperate employee, reborn once again but in a new world. Not a carchiture of her. I will say, as someone who is reading Tanya's manga, the author does take a good amount of creative liberties involving quite a lot of things about her future outside of canon, and her past life before Tanya, but it does still feel like Tanya, just one who's gone through those artistic liberties.
For example, she has trouble remembering her First life's face, but in the manga she constantly imagines herself as her past life, with her entire body, face and all, projected behind her in high detail.
this could just be seen as third life shenigans and more time since Tanya has reincarnated then in canon.
now stuff does get a bi - OdenTheTastyRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Spoiler free!
Spent money on the patreon to read ahead, I stand by my reviee below until about chapter 21 or 22. Chapters are long enough that those 22 chapters are book length and I'm satisfied enough with stopping there, but afterwards the author loses direction i think. Which is what it makes 4 and not 5 stars.
Anyways my review for what I deem book 1 is: It's really interesting. It's like finding a passion you never knew you had (might be a tad dramatic, but i like this stories rising action!!) Tanya the Saga of evil and Psychonauts is such a cool combination cause of the trauma that Tanya had to go through. Cause in Psychonauts the whole thing is something about going through peoples minds to heal/accomplish something, so getting such a well made abstract rendition of someones mind who went through what Tanya has is well done. And this is all to the backdrop of an actual plot that Tanya has to navigate through just as much as her own mind (literally) and probably others. - jugurthineRoyal Road★ 0.5Overal a poor read, with few redeeming freatures. Much of the story centers around Tanyas mental stablity, with unstuble metaphor, and a level of poor characterisation that drags it down still futher. Much of the strenght, and depht of the orginal came from its relative ambiguity about who, what and how Tanyas mindset evolves and interacts in war. This most lacks the main pressure and setting by neing at peace, then attempts to replace it with her internal struggles. Sadly, the internal struggles are nonsical and crude, while the setting fails to impress.
