How will the powers of a god compare to the indomitable human spirit?
Tartarus is a dangerous place, every child knows that. But when a new soul finds his way there with no memories and no name, he gets to learn the harsh truth firsthand. Who is he? Why is he there? Why are entities beyond his understanding taking a personal interest in him? And why does everyone have a level? He doesn’t know, but he’s going to find out, even if it kills him.
Monsters, gods, and more are at play. Thrust into events far beyond his ken, our protagonist has to learn how to fight and use the strange abilities at his disposal if he’s going to protect his newfound family. If they’re going to survive, however, he can’t be the only one who grows.
Heavily inspired by Greek Mythology, Project Tartarus is a gripping tale of LitRPG fantasy and adventure. Featuring a found-family cast of characters who work to forge a shining light of hope in a cruel, dark world. This Sword& Sorcery story has elements of horror, romance, and striking imagery, but is also a story of courage and fighting for one’s friends against all odds.

- VMJaskierniaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A great litRPG with some isekai elements (our protagonist shows up not knowing the world, but already an adult). He's our eyes and ears, as we are as new as he is to Tartarus. We quickly meet up with Lyssa, a wood elf, and she is our introduction and guide.
While there are Greek mythological figures appearing, there are also Germanic and other generic fantasy things here- we have wood elves alongside satyrs, and our protagonist is a human. I can't wait to see how this all affects the world and how the various beings interact with one another (they mostly seem to not like each other though).
Grammar wise, I saw no problems. Style wise, the story is well written, pulls you in, and explains the world without talking down to us as readers.
I like Lyssa. She's a bit "look at me wrong and I'll kill you" but also gives people a chance to prove themselves to her. I'm betting she'll be seen as best-girl among a lot of the readers.
So far with the story it's 'new guy in a new world learning about things' but we all love that. The world is both familiar, and yet also new, so we happily go along to see how Arche learns and grows. - TiltedCubeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great Promise, immediately enticed me with the System and it's intricacies. Characters and world setting are also very interesting early on, which is great because it heightens your immersion immediately. That Stats can be trained fills up many logic gaps I've seen in other stories. Summarized it's well written and also thought out, would recommend.
- KateSpellRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So I’m not too far into yet to really speak on the plot, but I’m far enough to say I am definitely enjoying this and am glad to be along for the ride.
This is really well written, the prose flows great, and it’s the perfect building up to action imo. Sometimes I feel like RR stories can jump into action/urgency too quickly as that’s often the style for web serials, but this one really goes at a realistic pace. We see the MCs confusion and learning about appearing in a new world, it’s not just a given. It gives the fiction an air of maturity I really like.
But the best part so far is the dynamic between Arche and Lyssa. It’s so much fun. Their interactions remind me of Avatar (the blue one, not the air bending one) and Pocahontas and I’m into it. They’ve had me smiling and laughing already.
I’m looking forward to seeing what shenanigans they get into! Or, what it seems like might be the case, what shenanigans Arche gets into that Lyssa will need to help him get out of. - MRhodesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall Score: 5
Style Score: 5
The author's style practically bleeds from the pages. You are able to submerge yourself in the story, trusting the author's efforts in quality descriptions, metaphors, and relatable similes to take you through the world he's built.
Story Score: 5
The story pulled me in from the very first chapter. The world is a great example of fantasy done right. Sharing important details when you need them, and not be bogging you down with unnecessary information that the author feels is important and yet, won't become pertinent to the story for another hundred pages.
Grammar Score: 5
Grammar in this story runs a perfect balance of punctuation, word choice, and paragraph flow that will keep you as the reader engaged. There isn't much fluff filling the pages. Saving me from feeling the need to read only the first and last sentence of each paragraph and skipping to the point.
This is the only area in which I found the smallest bit I'd have recommended and it was only occurred once so I will not dock any points. In the MC's first fight, the author called the MC's opponent by one and only one noun, when a little diversity would have gone a long way.
Character Score: 5
The MC, who doesn't even get named for the first several chapters (Which I love), is a good balance of a relatable person that you slowly begin to feel for up until a certain conversation that twists a knife into those same feelings making you instantly sympathetic while loading you up with more questions - MadFireGodRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story: This is the first story I've read that features the main character starting out with amnesia, and that adds a nice layer to the story as we, the readers, are just as new to the world as the main character. Though I was expecting him to experience a bit more confusion and a build-up of struggle to learn, with the RPG elements, that learning is taken out and replaced with immediate skill gain. That said, it is still an enjoyable read with immaculate plotting and world-building that I would readily recommend!
I especially enjoyed the scene of the archery practice as it felt very familiar having learned a bit of archery myself.
Style: The writing style is well polished, though, in my opinion, it could stand to slow down at the early stages to build up the story a bit more.
Grammar: The grammar is perfect, with no distracting errors to take you out of the story, and overall, it flows smoothly.
Character: When you are first introduced to the main character, he has zero recollection of himself or the world around him. This intrigued me and I was ready to watch as he struggled in confusion as the world molded him into whatever it wanted. While that is still the case, there was less focus on his confusion than I had expected, as it seems he wasn't as blank a slate as I had imagined him to be.
With all that said, he is still a likable character and those points don't serve to take away from him, just my preconceived notions.
The first side characters we meet are Lyssa and Lord Cypress.
Lyssa is a very enjoyable character, that serves so far as a sort of tough mentor to guide the main character on the beginnings of his journey.
As for Lord Cypress, I found him to be a little too robotic, as if his only purpose was to be an NPC that hands the main character his first quest. I would have liked for the beginning to have slowed here and built up to the point where the main character eventually gets a quest, rather than it be immediately handed, or rather thrust upon him.
A - No_Creative_NameRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0All too often, LitRPG novels quickly descend (or ascend, I suppose) into "my number big, I win everything." monotony. Now, this might be surprising to hear, considering I'm reviewing at chapter 15 (I think?), but this has been action-packed yet slow to progress, and I greatly appreciate that. Each chapter is beefy, with an average of 3500 words per chapter, and none of that is unnecessary fluff. The action is tight and impactful, though never bloated with ridiculous pacing or irrelevant details. Tldr: read if you're looking for a good action story with intriguing worldbuilding and constant questions that will only eventually be answered.
Here come the specifics:
Style; There's nothing groundbreaking here with regards to the style, but Erebus has a very clear, readable, and direct style that communicates well the environment and the action in such a way that's kept me reading each chapter without delay or need to reread for clarity. The only thing that I think might hold it back is the very straightforward nature of its prose, which I wouldn't criticize. Instead, it well suits the LitRPG genre.
Story; a good LitRPG that hasn't simply vomited every little detail at you, instead allowing the reader to discover the world and the story and its circumstances alongside Arche. I appreciate that already, he has lost fights and that stakes are real.
Grammar; I haven't seen a single error so far, and while I am not perfect at grammatical editorialism, I do notice misspelt words and other such errors. I haven't seen anything, and there haven't been any errors that called the story into question.
Character; This is the only section I have any quibbles with so far, and, just as with style, I don't consider this to be significant enough to impact my overall score of a five star. However, there are only two (and a half, counting the satyr) characters that we know anything about at this point, and that's something like 50k words without any additional supporting cast with significan - OccultoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Project Tartarus is an exciting and well-crafted litRPG adventure that delivers an immersive experience for fans of the genre. With a solid balance between world-building, character development, and engaging RPG mechanics, this story keeps readers invested. The action sequences are gripping, the pacing keeps things moving, and the mystery surrounding Arche’s past provides a compelling throughline. However, there are a few areas where some improvements could enhance the overall experience, but they don’t detract significantly from the story’s strengths.
The writing style is efficient and action-packed, keeping the momentum high and the reader engaged. The vivid descriptions of combat and scenery add to the immersive feel of the world. However, at times, the narrative could benefit from slowing down just a bit to let the reader absorb the depth of the world. Some additional reflection or inner monologue would further enrich Arche’s internal journey, allowing readers to connect more deeply with his struggles.
The plot of Project Tartarus is one of its strongest aspects. The slow reveal of the world’s dangers and mysteries, combined with Arche’s quest for identity, keeps the narrative intriguing. The RPG mechanics are well-integrated and make the character’s progression feel rewarding and natural. Still, there’s potential to deepen some of the lore, especially around the RPG world’s unique systems and magic. Expanding on these elements could add an extra layer of richness to the world-building.
The grammar and sentence structure are polished and professional. The story is free from distracting errors, making for a smooth, enjoyable reading experience. The writing is clean and flows well, with strong pacing throughout, maintaining reader engagement without interruption.
Arche’s character development is a highlight, as he grows from a confused newcomer into a capable adventurer. His evolving relationship with Lyssa is well-paced and engaging, adding tension and depth to t - Lyric Drake 591Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5While not on the level of the word masters like Brandon Mull, Tolkien, etc, this is still a really well written book :)
It has good backstory, the world feels pretty fleshed out and alive, and it has a fun main character who has both an interesting - if currently secretive and forgotten, backstory, alongside modern mannerisms he himself doesn't understand, let alone his companions in this fantasy world. I like it, and am excited to see where it will go later on :) - Luca ArcangeliRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story progress quite well. The flow is nice, the grammar is great, the progression and world building are exceptional. Unfortunately I really dislike the mc: he is the kind of «too stupid to live and too stupid to die». He makes enemies any time he goes to a new place, even when he really can't afford to, since he rarely ever actually deals with past ones. He recurrently survive only with his cheat power. The second Mc is actually smart and well rounded, but she is the kind of tragic hero that simply can't catch a break and misery follows hers like a blanket. 1 and 1/2 books in and they are worse than when they started. Decided to drop for now, maybe I'll revisit when I'm less annoyed.
