This great story mixes magic and science in a great way and Dr. Kintover is an interesting character precisely because she is two-fold. Character like Dr. Kintover who have such complexity within them are more often than not the heart of the story as well as its enigma and here she seems to be playing that part to perfection. Given her nature, she must be difficult not only for the main character Rozelle but the reader as well which makes her a captivating addition to the narrative.
Rozelle has a lot of potentials being the main character of the story. Her end goals and her character development only goes to show how captivating the plot is. I think stories like these where the main character progresses through growth because of magic and logic has ample space for character growth. It gives Rozelle the chance to face problems from a blend of reason, bravery and flexibility.
Some aspect of the story is so well done that it can easily be compared to anime, and the action elements only serve to highlight it even further. The genre mix, plus the action, result in an interesting fusion. In addition, the author’s style of writing is what places the cherry on the cake by encouraging them to enter into a great deal of action. The plot has clearly stuck with me, and, in my opinion, it is quite a well-developed one. - FaithfulServant41Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: Easy to read, and the story flows perfectly from one chapter to the next. Now it may be that the chapters are a little shorter than what I'm used to reading and writing; but it doesn't effect the overall story, just means more chapters which is no problem at all. I'll go ahead and add the book cover to this category, it is nice and draws attention and the designs of the characters are cute and fashionable. The orange title pops out and grabs you, the title itself is filled with a sense of mystery to add to the book, it's the main protagonist's own title!
Grammar: Not bad, only ever saw a few typos but none of them distracted or pulled me from the story content. They're all an easy fix and I recall only finding like 3 errors so nice!
Story Score: I have seen many repeats of stories with plot similarities that make them seem a little too identical to others for my tastes, especially in the Isakai department. But when it comes to originality, you've definitely got it here in this original work. Magic vs Technology in the craziest way with so much mystery and ideas I've never seen before in a story. The plot is unique and I think it really carries the story most like Technology is a dying theme with Magic users trying to destroy it and anyone who even supports it. I was quite surprised with the idea, that's not even going into the characters and what's going on with them, I have to give credit where it's due, creativity is here.
Character Score: Though this story has unique individuals, I feel is just a tad lacking. Perhaps it is just because I've only gotten to chapter 13 and haven't yet seen the full potential of the characters yet or seen any developments, but I do feel like they need just a bit more in their dialogue or actions with expressions to convey emotions. Like frowning, smiling, laughing, scowling, etc. You get the picture. Otherwise, I have to fill in the blanks with what I think they're expressing from time to time. So far Roselle seems to have mor - longwindedone1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This review comes after reading 12 chapters of Project Mage. I apologize for any spoilers.
Story:
This story follows Roselle, who was recently transformed into a powerful weapon by someone named Dr. Kintovar. The MC is sent on missions to eliminate humans and works along side her sister, Risebelle, to tap into her lightning magic. Later in the story, Runebelle (a third sister) is introduced. Together, these characters navigate a world shaped by magic and deal with the inner conflict of their actions. It is refreshing to find a story that strays from the usual Litrpg progression. This story is something new, yet hints at the "mad scientist" concept that I loved as a kid.
Style:
The tone of this story is interesting since the MC is both a weapon and a victim. It is dark in spots and certainly suspenseful in others. It is written in third person, but focuses primarily on Roselle's point of view. It reminds me a bit of my own story as the she finds out more about her own past as the story goes on. I wouldn't call this a comedy, but it does have moments of humor (mostly from Roselle's reaction to things).
Grammar:
I listened to this story via the royal road app, so I didn't get my eyes on any grammar or punctuation errors. But because of how I consume my books, I'm usually not the best person to comment on this category. That said, nothing took me out of my thorough enjoyment of this story.
Characters:
There are the three "creations" of Dr. Kintovar: Roselle (lightning magic), Risebelle (water magic), and Runebelle. There is a forest guardian named Thalindra, and some students: Elysia, Arlanda, and Risa. There is also a powerful headmaster of an academy of magic. My favorite part was the training scene between Roselle and Risebelle. This is where she experimented with lightning magic (can you go wrong with a spell called lightning tornado?).
Overall, I thought this was fresh and fun, yet incorporated a lot of what I love from the genre. Give it a try- you won't regret it - Jordan Elias R.Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0First of all, the concept of this book is both strange and intriguing. For years, we've read fictions where magic usually takes the lead, and technology is relegated to the sidelines. Well, no more! Because project mage is the book where technology finally fights back!
This has been a very interesting read so far, I was captivated by the synopsis, which is amazing, saying so much yet reveling so little.
Style: The prose is fluent, and easy to read. The world building is a little slow, but fantastic. most importantly though, the writing is very descriptive and immersive, which makes it quite easy to follow the story and lose track of time.
Story: the story is about our dear MC, roselle who loses all her memory and finds herself in a lab, remade as a weapon fashioned against mages by the very eccentric Dr kintovar. I like roselle character, although I find her too quite and accepting of her situation, but then again, she's completely under kintovars control. I hope she breaks away soon.
So far, I think the author has a firm grasp on the direction of this story, and has established it with intrigue and action right off the bat.
Grammer: The Grammer Is overall good. I'm not nitpicky about it, and so far, I have found no immersion breaking errors yet, which shows that the author has done an excellent job proofreading and editing their work.
Character: Roselle is overall quiet, unstable, but decisive. Able to kill a dozen mages without flinching despite the nausea running through her. I like her, but I'd love to see more emotion shine through despite her situation.
Overall, project mage has been a very interesting read and I recommend it to y'all. - DabossUnberogenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story was action packed, almost to an extreme. Every chapter brought some new challenge or event to the main character. It was written, like others have said in the reviews, somewhat like an anime. I think it was done well however.
The style was very quick, but well put together. I liked the choice of diction and the various literary devices used. The word choice was well done as well. Sometimes it could be a bit too fast, but it was generally good. The writing was well constructed. I enjoyed reading it.
The story functions more as a vehicle of adventure and action than anything else, but for that purpose, it is exceptional. Sometimes the different aspects of the story progression were not as well plotted out as they could have been. However, it was generally fine.
The grammar was fine as far as I could tell. There was nothing really to complain about here. There were a few small mistakes, but there was nothing that broke the immersion.Well done here.
The characters were well written, and I was able to resonate with them. That is always good in a story like this.
In general, it was a well written work, and one that I would recommend. Good job. - trichoplaxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First of all, I love me a good science vs magic story, then the author added a system and I was absolutely sold. The themes are a strong selling point of the story. They are familiar which makes it easy to get into the story, yet the author creates their own unique narrative around those themes which does not follow usual tropes. Minor spoiler : Who doesn’t love a cute MC with a cannon of doom on her back?
As for the style, the author employs a very descriptive writing style allowing the reader to paint clear pictures of the scene in their heads. The writing techniques used are also done very well.
I also love the way they do characters, especially Dr. Kintovar, I find her quite amusing. The air of arrogance the author gives the mages makes it so much more satisfying when Roselle (MC) puts them in their place!
Overall this story is a great piece of fiction with tremendous potential. I have not read much of it yet, but I can’t even imagine the possible future worldbuilding in a world where magic reigns supreme. I will make sure to keep on eye on where this story goes. Keept it up! - C. Sebastian NuttRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Summery: I like this story so far. I wish that I understood more about the world that it is taking place in, and this island everyone is apparently trapped on. They even have a school there. The technology vs magic conflict has been done a lot, but I think Breeze has a fresh take going on here. The idea of a robot girl with a cannon fighting wizards is such a cool mental image that I can't see it going poorly
Character: I find the characters thst we have been introduced tinsi far as very interesting. Their personalities are quite distinct and developed, something that not everyone can do quickly in their first chapters.
Story: I think that the start of this is strong, a bit fight heavy, but I am interested to see where it goes. I wish that there was more explicit world building. I want to understand the world better.
Grammer: I find this to be the weakest point. There are some spots where world's are randomly capitalized and some tense mixing. Nothing incredibly off-putting, but noticeable.
Style: there is a very active style going on here. A focus on complex sentences seems to be prevalant, but I find the writer does balance this with a good choice of activating verbs. - PlatocratesRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5First off, I love a book that jumps into action and explains as it goes. I enjoy when the characters and the mystery of who they are evolves as the story evolves.
This is a good read that makes you wonder what is next. I was a little confused as to the role the character Kintovar is playing as a protagonist or antagonist. At one point she threatens to blow up Roselle and at another point she seems genuinely concerned for her wellbeing, However, I think this will be explained as the story develops.
I appreciate the style of telling the story from different characters point of view. Gives deeper insight into the story line. I also appreciate that there is not a clear good guy in the story. This sets up interesting character development. For example Roselle's origin. I think the evolution of the character Roselle is an important part of buy in for the reader. I am looking forward to learning more as I read on.
The story itself is quickly established and is open to many possible directions. The author reveals little details here and their to keep the reader guessing.
A few minor grammar mistakes that are easy fixes.
Overall would recommend! - gliglithRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A lot of things are done right here in this punchy, almost anime-style tale. The author does an excellent job of showing versus telling, and this is indeed one of the strongest points of the fiction overall. Regardless, get ready for an action-packed and exciting ride when you read - and this is, seriously, a ride.
Style: I am on the fence with this style. In a lot of ways I enjoy and even gravitate towards this style of writing, but at the same time I feel I cannot give it the full marks because of what feels to be lesser attention on prose than dialogue. Ideally, there would be more prose and more of a balance on the dialogue.
Story: This fiction is very entertaining, please do not take my half star reduction as a noted not to consider this story engaging. It is instead that, sometimes I feel the stakes are not entirely defined, whereas I cannot give it less than four and a half stars because otherwise I am gripped to keep reading.
Grammar: Nothing of note or trouble here, this was a well-crafted read.
Character: Absolutely love the work done to characterize Kintovar as this complex overlord esque entity to contrast with Roselle. This story wouldn't be half as interesting without the characters, and they also serve as bastions of imagery and action of their own in well rafted dialogue - the strength of dialogue cannot be understated! - SilverWebRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Style: I enjoyed the premise of this story. I felt like a world where science is at odds with magic is a trope that exists in a lot of stories but I haven’t read too many stories from the science side of it. I saw a comment on one of the chapters that this read like an anime and I agree with that. One thing that this story could benefit from would be a little more internal dialogue from our main characters. I feel like everything happened really fast. The pace is very fast. I have read ten chapters and the things that happened in the first couple of chapters could have been stretched out to be ten chapters. The content was good, just rushed so I didn’t get to have as much emotional connection to the characters in the story.
Story:
I am enjoying the story. Like I said the concept is great and I think there is a lot of potential. I feel like the biggest issue is the pacing. A slower story would be a little more fleshed out and feel more complete.
Grammar:
I feel like the grammar was great. There were a few points where we would shift perspective and it felt a little jarring as there was no break indicating that change.
Character:
Again there was not as much internal dialogue as I would like. I understand that could be a personal preference as well. I enjoy the characters and I feel like the dynamic between Dr. Kintavor, Roselle, and Risebelle is an intriguing one.
Overall, this is a great story with a lot of potential. I think that the world building could be really unique and very fun. I think if we are able to slow down the pacing a little bit then this story would be a story that could really shine.
