- Nemo BlancRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Reading this story felt like wandering through a smoky, neon-lit alley in some sprawling future city where every glance might cost you your life. It doesn’t wait for you to settle down, it slams into you from the very first page with a raw, brutal voice that refuses to apologize for itself.
The plot itself is sprawling and ambitious, following Brinus Helios, a teenage burglar entangled in syndicate politics and struggling to carve out an identity between tragedy and survival. What drew me in was the sheer range of moments, from smoky interviews with corrupt detectives to brutal heists, tangled romances, and tense confrontations that felt almost too real. The way Brinus evolves throughout the book is compelling, making him more than a hardened anti‑hero, he becomes someone worth caring about.
Grammar-wise, the book has a gritty, in‑character cadence. The dialect, a mix of slang and grim humor, captures the desperation and cynicism of Brinus’ world beautifully, even if it occasionally slips into inconsistencies. Sometimes the sheer weight of the world and its language can overwhelm, making certain sections harder to read, but that also adds a sense of authenticity.
Style-wise, it shines. The writing doesn’t waste words on sentimentality. It shows the scars of a broken society in long strokes, sharp dialogue, and dark humor. It captures moments of vulnerability and harsh reality in a voice that feels lived‑in and raw.
In the end, Admiral Fisher is brutal and captivating, a character study that doesn’t flinch from pain, yet somehow finds sparks of belonging and rebellion in its depths. It’s worth reading for anyone who doesn’t shy away from a story with sharp teeth. - Tide_08Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A gritty, unapologetic glimpse into a chaotic world where rules blur and personalities clash hard. The pacing kept me intrigued, and Brinus’s sharp attitude definitely left a mark. Loved the cop dynamics and that twist with the Magi at the end. The world feels layered and tense. Not my usual genre, but there’s something raw and cinematic about it.
Keep it up! - JWoodrellRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Just finished "Book I: Brinus Helios - The Story of a Pirate Under the Sun" and I really enjoyed it! It's basically about this troubled guy finding his way through a life of crime and addiction in this cool sci-fi/fantasy world. The main character, Brinus, feels super real - he has this unique way of talking that makes him stand out. There are a few slow parts and some grammar stuff that could be fixed, but honestly, I was too caught up in Brinus's journey from criminal to reluctant sailor to really care.
The world-building is awesome. The author mixes futuristic tech with magic in a way that totally works. The book doesn't shy away from tough topics like addiction and moral gray areas, but it never gets preachy about it. I especially liked the relationship between Brinus and Harper - it felt complicated and real, not just tacked on for romance. The ending wraps things up nicely while still making me want to read the next book.
Style: 4.5/5
The writing style is probably what I liked most. You really feel like you're in Brinus's head, especially in the prologue where it's first-person. Even when it switches to third-person for the main story, it still keeps his unique perspective. The descriptions really put you there - you can practically smell the smoke in the syndicate clubhouse or feel the sterile coldness of the hospital rooms. Everyone talks like actual people, not book characters, if that makes sense.
Story: 4.5/5
The plot kept me interested the whole time. You've got all these organizations like the Confederation, Syndicate, and Magi that feel fully developed without boring explanations. The tension between Brinus and Harper adds emotional weight, while his legal troubles keep the story moving. I wish they'd developed the magic stuff a bit more, and the middle dragged a little, but the beginning and ending were strong enough that I didn't mind.
Grammar: 4/5
There were some typos and grammar issues, but nothing that ruined the story for me. Sometimes the autho - LilythGeistRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I have been seeing ads for Brinus Helios's shenanigans for a while and finally decided to check it out.
The story is quite interesting and is basically a Coming-of-age tale of a down-on-his-luck kid, who leads a life he absolutely hates.
There are some grammar and spelling issues here and there, but nothing too serious.
The characters are well-written and the MC is... quite aptly described as an Anti-Hero. He really feels like a teenage rebel.
Overall - do recommend and will be checking out the sequel next :) - NotPhoebeeRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I'd like to start with the things I really enjoyed in this story, because there were a lot!
The story follows the character Brinus Helios who works for the syndicate and is therefore legally allowed to do crime for the government. It's a very cool premise and I quite enjoyed the heist moments throughout the beginning of this story. I think overall the story itself has a lot of potential.
The style of this story was a bit... meh. The sentence structure could be super repetitive at times, and if I had a nickel for everytime Brinus gave someone a "screw-you smile" I'd be rich! Half of the dialogue was very clunky and annoying to read, but the other half was very well-written and realistic, so I'm left with the idea that the dialogue was alright. Nothing spectacular but still enjoyable at times. Overall, the style of this story definitely isn't for everyone, but it doesn't hinder the reading experience much.
Next on the list, Brinus himself starts the story with a lot of potential for growth. He's arrogant and haughty but he is very compelling. Even though he doesn't seem like a very good person (obviously), I can't help but root for him throughout, which is the mark of a well written and complex character!
The grammar needs a bit of work. I'd suggest that the author read through their work again because I think a lot of these mistakes are easily fixable.
Overall, this story was enjoyable and I think with a bit more attention from the author in certain areas, it could become even better.
