- Synthetic ReplicantRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Interesting and believable characters? Check. Interesting world? Check. Great pacing? Check. Absolutely fascinating system? Check. Check. Check. If you like any of the above, read this story. The balance of powersmithing to plot development is A+ work. The development of the powers is fascinating. It isn't just "numbers go up". I eagerly await each new chapter. There have been a lot of twists to this story, but each one helps build toward a larger and more interesting world. I can't wait to see what that world as a whole looks like. I desperately hope the author develops this into a TTRPG, because I would love to play it.
- NKR88Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0If i had to put this series into a catergory i would say its system apocalypse with light litRPG, and an urban fantasy setting. It also seems to be going down the super hero path though not immediatly. This combination of genres isnt the most unique, but with the adittion of slice of life aspects it ties all this together.
I really like the way the world is slowly collapsing(so far at least). In a lot of system apocalypse books ive read the world order is destroyed almost immediatly. Having the world order stay intact but have to go through massive changes is a new idea at least for me. This is also a really good setting to have interesting slice of life aspects.
The author also does a good job explaining to powers, at least the MCs powers there hasnt been a big explorating of powers besides the MCs.
TLDR: Its a story that was exactly what i wanted, and for me thats what gives it the 5 stars. also has an interesting world and premise, interesting powers, and good grammar as far as i can tell.
My favorite book ive found in the writathon(so far) keep up the good work author:) - BerciTheBeastRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There are some choices in the earlier chapters that seem illogical or present only for the purpose of advancing the plot. Despite this, the story is captivating and addicting and gets better with time. My only problem with it at the moment is that I can't get enough and the author can't keep up with my consumption.
- C3ED0nlineRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great start, I'm eager to see where this goes. I think the author has given a great deal of thought to this and it feels like there's no limit to the world they're creating. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop in terms of typical apocalyptic setting but the author fills in a lot with an interesting sense of realism. I think the potential is all there and just hope there's follow thru.
style - very exploratory , at least as far as MC POV goes
grammar - solid enough to not interfere with engaging
MC - not fully sold on the MC, but I can also appreciate the author's efforts to flesh them out completely
plot - lot to be desired in terms of motivations/mechanics , scale of power is hard to determine exactly but also feels like it's rapidly ascending; again from the limited perspective of the MC - ChipcarverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Power Initialization is a fascinating new take on superpowers! It combines the feelings of a superhero story and a LitRPG. I love the way the characters feel realistic even while they are reacting in a supernatural manner! The author is doing an excellent job of including interpersonal/emotional conflicts without boring the reader or being overly dramatic.
I particularly love the way the MC acts toward his parents. Allowing them to temporarily remove his powers, (even though he disagreed with their reasoning), showed respect toward his parents that is rare in a teen MC. Then later on he shows real character by being willing to admit where he has been wrong. In my opinion, the author handled this very well.
The slow collapse of society shown in this story is somewhat unique. Most “LitRPG like” stories take the introduction of a system immediately to an apocalyptic collapse. The author is using past family history to replace the extra conflict involved in a collapse. Personally, I really enjoyed the idea of a more gradual adjustment to a new normal.
On the negative side…
In my personal opinion, the MC’s interactions with his sisters seem a bit overly dramatic.
Also, the mother’s focus on keeping life as usual in the first few chapters, appears forced. And it doesn’t line up with what I would expect based on how the rest of the family reacts. That said, I will wait to see how the author fleshes out her character as the story continues.
To sum it up, great work! I look forward to reading more! - PickelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First off, the writing style and power system are amazing, with one of the most interesting takes on superpowers I have ever seen. Unfortunately, in an attempt to foreshadow character development and characterization the author has turned a few of the characters, such as the parents, insane. It feels like they wanted an endpoint, and just skipped a few intervening points. With a little editing to make the parents full characters, or at least make there development more clear, this could be a top 5 story.
- Eman2697Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has a unique perspective of the superpowered world where most people have issues and are now dealing with all of their problems at a much greater scale. The protaganist is a flawed person he has struggles outside of a big bad he deals with interal issues and it makes you root for him.
- OmniextRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It's premise is different enough from the usual urban fantasy power stories to be unique. No grammar problems either, though I may have misunderstood something in one of the chapters.
MC is pretty good, powers are a bit bland (but I've read so many fantasy and superpower stories, so maybe I'm not a good baseline)
That chapter where he gets Spatial Manipulation and Recovery confused me a bit. I'm pretty sure he got them at the same time, but the options said pick one. I might also just be misremembering, so eh. - Your Hated BossRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It's pretty good. I normally only rate books I think I can comment on to improve, but I'm quite happy with where it is. The characters all exist, and I like them. The story flows, "the blue-boxes, blue-box." It's almost cooky cutter with how smooth it flows, but it has charm. I love the charm.
Something is so nice about just sitting and reading with perfect grammar and perfect flow. The only thing is, it's not like a dragon-shaped cookie. It's, well, a circle. Everything is kinda exactly what you would expect.? Nothing jumped out at me and said, "This is crazy."
Each and every power operates how I would have expected. It all fits together like a nice puzzle. In fact, I have raised my rating from a 4 to a 4.5 just because I have nothing bad to say at all.
I think the author is as close to a perfect book as they can be without being there. I just want a bit of oomph to push it into 5 stars. Honestly, though, I wouldn't rock the boat, you have a great story, keep it going. If it ends how it's going, it will be a favorite for sure, with multiple rereads. - Vane RedfordRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The only reason I've gotten this far is because of the power system I don't like the character that much but if you want to read a good power system this is for you i recommend that you try this novel once. Oh and yhe author is bavk in business
