Description
Note:Half the people reading the other version hated the blue hyperlinks for references. Creating one without those links was the best solution I could come up with. If you want the links if you're not familiar with Pokémon, then gohere.
Learn about Rhea and her journey through the Pokemon World. You will meet many people and see how a realistic Pokemon experience might be. Rhea may be the main protagonist of our story, but to fully understand this world, we will be diving into various other PoV along the way, but never straying too far from our main three girls!

- MechaHeartRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The fact that SME has put an unhyperlinked copy of this work goes to show his dedication to excellence for his viewers. People more in tune with the Pokémon world may prefer this version, but note that there are a lot of things that you may not know, as he puts in works from both anime, games and movies too.
As to the actual writing, as someone who has just read chapter 17 on patreon I can say it is shaping up to be possibly my favourite serial SME has written yet.
Individual scores as follows:
Style: 5/5. Yes, there is already a prebuilt world, but that makes it a lot easier for SME to build his creation. Set 10 years past Sun/Moon (potentially, haven't played them) he has incorporated lots of changes to the world. He has also fleshed out the way pokemon trainers, battles, travel, technology, power scales and more work. Truly a unique creation, even if grounded in another work.
Story 3/5. This is lower at the moment as the serial has just started. As it is a Pokémon work, it has begun with the beginning journey, and as anyone who has played one of the games knows, you don't have any story until like the 2nd or 3rd gym anyway. I honestly expect this to go to a 4.5 at least once that becomes more clear. That being said, SME does tend to leave fairly open ended goals which can make it difficult to see the direction, I have it on his authority though that he has a good map!
Grammar 5/5. SME has patreons combing through all his works, by the time they've reached the public they are close to flawless.
Character score 4.5/5. Some very good characters, haven't had a lot of time to get too deep, but the bases and twists are there. - ValmoriousRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0tldr: It gets better and better. Chapter 9 really hit hard and the commissioned picture of her first Pokemon on Chapter 4 gave me a sugar overdose!
Author has set an update schedule of one chapter every Tuesday at 1 PM MST. Judging by all this other serials ... yes, the author writes 4 ongoing series at the same time ... this will continue and not be dropped.
IN THE END, DISREGARD EVERYTHING I SAY!!
Read up to Chapter 11 (where it's currently at) and determine the merits yourself.
If you find yourself hating the format of chapters 1 to 3 that gets Rhea's whole life in order and helps the reader understand the new world you're stepping into, then just go to Chapter 4 on. You'll probably be able to pick things up ... maybe.
Style: I personally love the author's style, but cearly a few others feel personally attacked by the author ... they must have low self-esteem issues.
The author adds links that allows you to easily search things up, and all the information is really fascinating to me that he blends together.
Is it a little rough at the start? Yes, but when you're developing such an expansive universe as ALL Pokemon mediums, it really is fascinating to see how he blends everything together with this Wixia-like style of connecting Pokemon and Trainer into a symbiotic relationship that I found actually quite beautiful.
Story: Since it's still early in the book, we've got the Pokemon journey (much more realistic than anything I've seen in a fanfic), developing the main cast stories such as the Rocket Family, and getting our look at how the beginning battle in every Pokemon Game would feel ... like stepping into Pokemon Coliseum! Judging by SME's other works, the story will get really interesting as we keep going, but you really gotta look at the foreshadowing and background events in SME's works.
Grammar: Always Top-Tier with SME. His earlier works could have a few very minor errors but between Patrons and readers pointing things out, errors get solved very q - zdrex007Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall I've found this to be an enjoyable read. Its got a lot of things going for it and is definitely something I would recommend to anyone who enjoys pokemon fan fiction. The fact that there is a version with hyperlink references as well as one without is a great and shows the authors understanding of readers needs. There are a couple points which can be sticking points for some readers, but you will figure it out quite early if these bother you so I don't feel like they should stop you from trying it.
Style: The style of this story is well done. The way the battles are written is engaging and easy to follow. Trainer to pokemon communication and interaction as well as pokemon to pokemon communication is handled beautifully. The addition of portions from the pokemon perspective are well written and fit the story nicely.
Grammar: If there were any issues I didn't notice them.
Character: The character development is phenomenal. The main characters and their pokemon all have depth and growth. There is great backstory which evolves throughout. The secondary characters are fleshed out and provide additional story and intrigue. The use of popular characters from the pokemon universe is well done albeit possibly a little heavy handed (Cynthia is the best).
Story: Let me preface this by saying I enjoy the story and how it has been done. That being said I think most people's issues will be here. The first major issue is the story can tend to get bogged down in side quests and story lines that don't really have much impact on the story as a whole beyond a little character development. This can lead to it feeling a little bit slow in its pacing. The other issue is the beginning of the story is incredibly heavy handed in its introduction of characters and pokemon. It spits them out faster than the reader can reasonably comprehend. Once the journey starts this becomes less of an issue but until then it can be hard to follow and track. - IronbeagleRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I've recently been on a Pokemon fan-fic binge on royalroad, and for the most part I've been enjoying myself. A lot of fantastic, creative authors reimagining the amazing world of pokemon. PokéSync does a lot of stuff right. The battles are creative and interesting, the characters aren't one-dimensional cut-outs, and the world is really well thought out.
However, the main problem for me comes from the pacing. I am well aware the SME is an author who loves a slow-paced, character driven story. I don't have too much of a problem with that, so long as it's well done. Beware of Chicken, to take an example off the front page, is quite slow-paced, and the driving force behind the novel is the characters. PokéSync just takes it all too far to the extreme.
With where I'm at in the novel, about 20 days have passed. That's almost 2000 pages for 20 days. 100 pages per in-world day! That would be okay if I felt like this story was meant to be a slow-paced, slice of life sort of thing. But it doesn't seem like it. The world SME has created is heavy on the more cultivation-like aspects of pokemon, such as aura, and that necessitates constant motion forward to be done correctly, at least in my opinion. With the way it's going, the characters are going to get to Silver rank in about 5 years of my life. Maybe then we'll see one pokemon evolve!
Sorry for the ranting above. My main gripe is that if you wanted to make a heavily character focused pokemon adventure, you shouldn't have put the characters on the gym circuit. That makes the reader want to see those gym battles, constant progression and failure and getting back up again, pokemon evolutions, drama, craziness! Instead, Rhea and co. are constantly stressing about this and that, and nothing is really progressing that much. It honestly makes sense for their problems to not be solved, it's only been 20 days after all, but it has also been 2000 pages. It gets tiring to read after a while.
Honestly, I really wanted to enjoy this sto - OranosRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Its fairly well written and has an interesting premise, but I find the authors focus not aligning with my interests.
The primary focus of this fiction (as of ch6) is twofold
1- seeing the results of the otp ships of the authors favorite gym leaders & trainers
2- mixing the real life competitive pokemon battling system with a wuxia style power system for the trainers
as a result the story focuses almost entirely on trainers and their relationships with each other while relegating the actual pokemon to being basically the trainers familiar instead of being full characters in their own right.
finally a word of warning
if you havent played through all the mainline pokemon games and have at least an awareness of the spinoffs and competitive pvp pokemon battles (or dont remember most of the gym leaders by name) then you need to go read the version of the story with the links sprinkled throughout every paragraph.
There are just that many references to specific gym leaders, trainers, and E4/champions that if you dont know who they are, you will get very confused very quickly.
if you know your pokemon and enjoy analysis of ships and pokemon battles, then this will be a great story for you. - StillnessRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5So I enjoy this story quite a bit. The author has taken the pokemon world and has really made it their own. It is very much an alternate universe. The characters and writing are both excelent.
Now for the criticism, the story suffers some major issues with slow pacing. This has two factors. The first is that POVs sometimes jump back in time so that the reader sees the same events more than once. The second is that the writing is overly detailed. Tangentially, related is the overuse of POV characters. All or this might sound like minor issues, and they can be ignored to a degree, but overall it distracts from the main narative.
The author wants to tell too many stories at once or is afraid of leaving minor, inconsequential details out. The additions end up draging the story down rather than contributing to it.
