I found this on Reddit originally, on the HFY subreddit. I was instantly hooked! I was interested enough to seek it out here on royal road when I noticed that it hadn't gotten any new chapter on Reddit, because I was concerned that it had been abandoned and was dissapointed by that possiblity. This story is a slow burn, which I love, because fast paced stories just don't provide the level of immersion I'm looking for. it starts out with the main character just trying to survive in a world she doesn't understand in the slightest, being completely new to life, and as it goes on layers are gradually peeled back revealing more not just about her, but about the universe this story is set in as a whole. We go with her on a journey of not becoming a different person, but simply of becoming a person. While I say simply, I don't mean that the story is simple, is a very complex and engaging piece. Your going to want to sit down and read this story carefully and slowly, really paying attention to all the little details and soaking everything in. Characters are well developed and a good amount of attention is put into the supporting characters, the story is very detailed, and the visual description is on point and really let's you "see" everything. I could easily see this story eventually being published as a proper book with physical copies and everything if it keeps going the way it's going. Major props to the author for making what's probably the best HFY story I've ever found.
If there's one critique I can give, it's simply formatting for people like me who came from reddit. I personally re-read the entire thing because I didn't know it was here on royal road for a while and wanted to get everything fresh in my mind again, but for anyone coming here from reddit right after finishing up the chapters that are posted there it would be great if there was some sort of marker in the titles indicating what chapter here synchronizes with the last chapter on Reddit. That would make

The concept is great, the execution is good (not just above average). My only slight gripe with this novel is that it's sometimes hard to parse all of the information coming in at once. A newly created android joins a group of mercenaries on the run from a world (galaxy?) superpower and must work hard to learn more about her situation while hiding her origins. Recommended - and for those who may be worried about a misleading anti-hero tag:
There shouldn't be any significant problems. The MC is not possessed of a particularly strong sense of justice, but neither is she a completely emotionless robot.
She killed some guy that attacked her, which is reassuring. It is definite proof that she won't suddenly be queasy about it. She wasn't human to begin with, after all. Though she was created by and for them.
