- EmmmBRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have really enjoyed this story so far.
The world building is highly effective, and the characters have depth and realism. The story draws you in and makes you want to keep reading, both to find out what happens and because of the connections you build between the reader and the protagonists. - Nak_FictionFrictionRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Icarus is a hidden gem when it comes to fiction .. the past 2 years that i know and folow hs work i am constantly amazed by his creativity and style i am always happy to read more and more of his work <3
Fresh and Creative i would recoment 100% of the times - Ethan FitzgeraldRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I love the concept and it was expertly written out with incredible detail.
My only nit-pick is that Alice is really expressive and everything she says ends with an exclamation point. I don't know if that's just me not liking the character, but everything else is masterpiece.
I can't wait to see where this story goes. - VuoristoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I try to keep this non biased. The author is my friend irl so take everything i say with a grain of salt.
Starting with the good parts. I like the world and the progression system. In a fantasy world where leveling up is a fact of life it only makes sense that combat isnt the only way to level up or else everyone would be murderhobos. The pacing of the story is mostly fine. Some parts should get more attention in edits but overall it was easy to follow. The story on the other hand is pretty simple. A man loses his powers and is on a quest for vengance against his former master. As odd as it seems the main story isnt the main focus at least so far. It reminds me of a dnd game where the main plot is this looming threat in the future and the party goes on an adventure that slowly gets them there. There is a good sense of mystery in the world with the supporting characters although some of jonathans "this should be impossible" comments and disbelief may get a bit annoying to some.
Then the parts i know can and will be better in time. The mc is a bit of a noncharacter. Reading this i didnt get a good feel for his personality but i know the author has been struggling with it and wants to improve it and give him more personality. Like i said i know the author irl and know what he wants to do with jonathan and how he is supposed to be so it was easier to follow his thought process with some background information. The magic system also seems a bit underdeveloped but it is early in the story so that will most likely be fleshed out more.
Things i didnt like mostly fall under grammatical errors and some story flow. Chapter 4 was especially difficult to read and by far my least favorite chapter. There are also some repetition words and lack of descriptions in places and peoples thought processes but for mostly unedited raw chapters its acceptable.
Overall i enjoyed the read and look forward for more. - alfapeperoniRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0(Real rating 2 stars: If this was a more popular story with more ratings/reviews the rating would be different)
The story takes in a MTG like universe where powerful mages(planewalkers) travel between realities/worlds with LitRPG elements added to the mix.
The protagonist is a powerful (god like as the author describes) planewalker who looses his powers and must start again from level 1. This imo is a much better setting than time traveling(knowing the feature is to OP) or rebirth (allowing us to skip all that wonder baby nonsense).
Lets start from the good.
The system has a unique leveling system, where people choose a path and get experience when they act in according to it. Allowing some characters to grow without turning into murder hobos. The protagonist uses exclusively wind magic, with some interesting uses like echo or smell based skills. A nice change from all the magic swordmasters.
The not so good.
The protagonist is a war veteran with many trials and experiences under his belt but acts like a child. Someone who presumably is one in a million mage almost dies to a low level monster even after he located it.
Furthermore the protagonist insists on boasting how "high level" his skills are or how he fought high level adversaries. Which for a person who only needs to stay low for a short time and farm is strange and clashes with the whole half god veteran perspective. No amount of boasting or fawning from others will change that he doesn't have any defining features. Is he smart? No almost got killed.
Is he wise? No advertises to the whole city his unnatural powers without the ability to protect himself. Is he charismatic? No, can't decouple from his emotions and get the paladin to do his will. Just another Joe with the personality of a 15 year old child.
The bad. There is no reason to care about the story. There is no suspense or mystery.
