Description

Thank you for your interest in Piercing Heaven!

This story, and the novel after it, were written outside of Royalroad and without Royalroad in mind. They're posted here now as a representation of my writing over the first half of the year of 2023. Enjoy!

If you enjoy my writing style and want to see it's current form, please check out Forged By The Apocalypse, releasing on Royalroad!

Welcome to Jaia.

A sprawling world full of bravery, danger and magic.Guan Ah Dan is different to those around him. The world seems to sound louder to him, and his nights are filled with nightmares he tries desperately to avoid.

The world around Guan Ah Dan is moving to war. Relics of a long-dead god scatter the land, giving immense power to those lucky few who wield them. Yet these items are more than weapons, and they are starting to awaken.

In his journey to understand himself, Dan makes trusted allies - and catches the dangerous focus of those far more powerful than himself. It will take all he has to simply survive his time at the Jiaodao, training school of the Guan.

Surviving what comes next is an entirely different question.

Piercing Heaven is book 1 of two completed novels which I will be releasing regularly on Royal Road, Substack and Wattpad.

-------

To any who remember my previous novels,

I apologise for leaving you in the dark. Roar of Greatness and Living In The System were my first two novels on RoyalRoad.

I eventually dropped those novels unceremoniously due to beinghiredto write some fantasy novels.

Then, I suppose in turn, I was also dropped. In the middle of the project, with money waiting to be paid. So, here's the novel, mostly untouched from the writing. I hope you enjoy, I hope you stick around.

There's way more to come, and it's much better than before.

Some of the most engaging stuff I've read in a while! I actually cared about what happened to the characters unlike most things you read nowadays. The world building is second to none and I absolutely loved learning about jaia and its inhabitants. Can't wait to see what else the author has in store for us.

I did need to jump back a paragraph or so once or twice to follow the storyline, which is fine for me as I do enjoy being drawn into a story in that way, provided it doesn't ask too much of me as the reader. I think you balanced that brilliantly.
I have high hopes for the next chapters.

So far I've only read chapter 1. But I gotta say it's very interesting so far and definitely has me itching for more. The way it explains how the mana feels and works was very well done! I'll be excited to learn more about the characters and world of Jaia!

Once I started I couldn't stop! Some first rate world building supported by amazing characters makes for a really interesting and captivating read. On a technical side these chapters have a fantastic use of language, really helping sell all the ideas the author has put forward. I'm looking forward to the next batch of chapters, they can't come soon enough!

FULL DISCLOSURE I AM THE COVER ARTIST
I am a classically trained artist who has never done a book cover before. I took this commission after reading M.T. Conboy's writing. I have read both books in their entirety.
Be forewarned, the person who hired M.T. to do this trilogy, had wanted them written fast. He wrote them in a few months, as he was contractually guaranteed they would be fully professionally edited. So what you are reading is a rough first draft.
That said, this story moved me. I think what I enjoy about his writing, and particularly this book, is the sense of comraderie and adventure. I often see in his stories a love and nod to great epics, but specifically coming of age tales of friends. He doesn't stick to the tropes of love triangles, brooding or rely on fights to carry the story forward. Instead M.T. creates complex characters with unique motivations and dynamic relationships to each other.
Moreover, THE WORLD BUILDING! I enjoy the cohesive way he creates new worlds that all feel different yet still seamlessly fit within his larger universe, The System. If you followed him before, you'll recognize themes.
On a personal note, I cannot be happier to see M.T. get over the disappointment of the dissolution of this project and make these books available. I genuinely believe his storytelling is phenomenal. His care for his characters well reasoned and considered.
I am grateful to be his trusted cover artist, and have genuinely enjoyed watching his skill as a writer grow. I hope he gets the attention his work deserves as I have read the work in progress books he is currently writing, and to say his writing is improving exponentially is an understatement.

The cover art is very nice but the words inside are what get me going
