Description

Gamer. Martial Arts enthusiast. Writer. Eric Breeden is these things and a few more, but one thing he is not is a risk-taker. But when he is pulled from his dark apartment in Fairbanks, Alaska, and transported to the world of Ahya by a powerful mage, he soon realizes that risk-taking might just have to become his thing. That is if he wants to survive and make it back home.

Thrust into a world he doesn’t understand introduced to skills and a system of combat that is foreign, he tries his best to get his feet under him and get to work. Meeting the stranger who pulled him here goes about as well as can be expected, but he does at least learn his purpose. Can he fulfill it, or will he fall like so many others, to be overtaken by those who come after?

Read Chronicles of a New World for a new perspective on the world of Ahya, and to see what happens when the burden of destiny is thrust upon the shoulders of a chronic under-achiever.

Good story as always though I needed some time to get used to the idea of a system in the world of ahya...
If you are reading this one as a first, it is possible, but it will be more fun to read the tome of the body and the tome of the mind first... It seems separate, though...

First I will point out I read 129 chapters in 1 binge read, though I skimmed through majority of the latter chapters for reasons I'll get into, first off all the chapters up to 75 are great with character development, interesting story and good world building. (Spoiling chapters from 76+)
So the most controversial chapter 76 is where all hell broke loose, where Eric the MC for 75 chapters is killed and replaced with Megan as the main MC, which stays like that till the most recent chapter, while she is a good character, the sudden switch caused many people, myself included to  drop or nearly drop the series, especially with the way Eric died, out of the blue with no foreshadowing or signs, and I get it, it's more realistic, however that's the thing, this is a story and is inherently less realistic with magic, ki, and other things, in real life someone might die from a random stabbing, in a book someone might die after finding out and piecing together that someone has been stalking them and eventually ends up being killed in a low population area in a dark alley. Something happening because it's realistic is fine, especially with characters, however when it's extremely sudden with near to no prior knowledge it's just infuriating and leaves a vague sense of loss.
Anyway, onto the next point, Eric, I love Eric, but he gets sidelined so hard after 76 (somewhat understandable cause he died) but when he is brought back to Ahya, the story sticks with Megan, with a rough estimate of 5 - 15% (very generous) to a 85-95% respectively, and because we had been emotionally invested and interested in the progression of Eric, we enjoy Megan far less, mostly just hoping Eric comes back to being the central main character.
Anyway this is my biased review, give it a shot and see but be prepared.
