Path of Divinity

Description

The world has been drawn into an ancient cosmic conflict, a war of magic and intrigue between the Heavenly Host and the Horde.

This is kind of something fun I wanted to write after reading stories like The New World, System Apocalypse, and the Legend of Randidly Ghosthound. I don't know how serious I will be about this story, but I just want to try it out. I imagine that it will become a love child between Fable, Diablo, and Devil May Cry. Enjoy!

This is a great book.  I can relate to the MC.  He is not OP but isn't being tortured all the time either.  There are a few grammatical errors but nothing bad enough to draw you out of the story.  The side characters seem one dimensional but this isn't their story.  The story moves fairly seamlessly and at a quick pace.  This definitely a great start to what I hope to be a large, epic series.

I really hope the author comes off hiatus soon because i am invested. I love the heaven versus hell context and staying neutral will be a hard and arduous path to walk that i look forward to reading more about! The MC is flawed and believable. There is some back and forth on emotions and goals but it's well explained through the story. The influence of greed is a really interesting concept. The writing flows well and the grammer seems fine at least to my untrainrd eye. I was thrown off a little with not killing the shitty grandparents but obviously the author had a reason for the inaction. Losing all those attributes was rough at the end there. And every time the mc was supposed to gain more from devouring the souls and missed out it hurt me to read. All that power gone in a blink. Im sure the mc will gain in back in the future and much more. Im interested to see what class he gets. I am curious to see what aspects of the nephalem the author brings into the story. Ive always read them as being half angels but in this context it reads more as fallen angels. I hope we get to see more of them in the future.

If you loved A New World and LoRG, this story could be for you; if you hated it, you should read the first chapters all the same.
The MC is a guy who didn't know what to do in the world, he was lost, and because the System wants people to follow a Path, he was punished. But you'll see that it isn't easy to make this guy follow a Path.
The description are good and fight can be easily imagined, the world still isn't very explained because Hunter is still in the same place, but what we have is good.
For grammar I only found some typos like inverted characters in a word or a comma before the right place, but with the speed of release I think it's totally excusable.
Like I already said for now we have only seen Hunter, and received description of his family, but they seem pretty believable and reasonable.
(Hunter is probably going to be a blacksmith and craft things, so if there are people that like that this could be a bonus)
I suggest this story to everyone that likes litRPG, if they are new to the genre or already read a lot, because you'll like it.

The reason for the 4 stars from me is simple
1, I love the story and I find it fun
2, It has nearly flawless grammer
3, I love the lore and background
    Now onto the Negatives
1, MC gets way to strong in a short amount of time without much effert
2, MC just so happens to get the EXACT skill that he needs right before he's challenged
3, The fact that i have not been able to read volume 2!
Please can you at least tell us if you plan on making Vol 2 and if so how long will I have to wait
Also if possible in Vol 2 can you try to show how much effort the MC has to use to acomplish his goal (Just make it seem like he reaaally has to try in order to  gain power)
Hope to see Vol 2 out Soon :)

This story shares the 'path' progression often used by the litrpg genre with short chapters and a divine vs devil subtheme.   The opening rift/reality change was well done especially the tension between the MC and his greedy grandparents that kept the story grounded.
As the plot went into the 'RPG' part of the story, the quality waned.  Powers were escalated too fast and after the big conclusion on the first arc, it seemed the author lost interest or didn't have an outline.
Overall I enjoyed the first dozen chapters the most.  Would not recommend a read unless substantially more than the chapter mentioned by the review is available (the point it stopped was very inconclusive).  Had it on my 'read later' list but this story never updated 'later'.
Leaving this review as thanks for sharing to the author.  I think the rough edges at the end of the first arc could have been smoothed out by proper use of timeskips and 'it's a big world' tropes.  Best of luck if you ever return to this project.

Honestly feel like the biggest issue with this story is inherent of the whole rpg element. I cannot fathom the time the author spent making the system or putting work in unseen elements and how it affected the work. The only thing that's evident is the lack of any compelling element besides the typical grindfest. If you could rewrite the story, scrap the rpg and add colorful characters or expand on the MC, this is a serious waste of your mental faculties big man.

This is all u want in a average litrpg with it's own twist. But it's lacks originality unfortunately, it was a good shut your brain and read until I got to ch40.
Like seriously he got a bloodline to free himself from the faction system and anyone he care about. Wholly fuck where is the struggle.
And don't get me started as to how he got it, he just imagined it IMAGINED IT.

I'm going to give this story a 3.5. I want to give it a lower review, but three seems too harsh, and I don't want to discourage the writer. After all, I'm still reading.
So what we have here is a Randidly Ghosthound-esque story, cut and dry. There are paths, the MC doesn't have a class but becomes powerful because he's 'different' and 'cool'. I enjoy the battle of duality in the beginning, but that's pretty much thrown out the window by the time I'm writing this. It's fun in that it's a power/fight fest, but I take issue with how it was executed. Spoilers past this point.
So as in every Randidly Ghosthound story the MC is thrown into a terrible situation (in this case a Rift instead of a Dungeon) and left to fend for himself. He gets powerful, and starts to thrive. He runs into people, he is of course way more powerful than them. But they've been there for 6 months, and he's been there for a week? Time works different in the Rift blah blah blah. I think the author dropped the ball on this one really. I understand that the people are all corrupted, they're weak of will etc. So the MC is better because he was able to resist the Sin of Greed. But isn't the point of demonic faction corruption in exchange for power? The Tieflings are so corrupted they've changed species, but why are they weaker than the MC? Couldn't a Tiefling be stitching leathers or building cabins nice and safe and get more path points in 6 months than the MC in 5 days, and therefore be just as powerful?
Ultimately I take issue with this because so many stories on this website are set up the same way ( The New World, Defiler of the Fall, etc) and at least try to pretend there is a reason why their MCs worked harder or smarter to become stronger. In this story, the MC is more powerful because he is 'special' and 'not like other people'.
This kind of bleeds into my next issue, how the MC overcomes the battle of duality. Initially the MC is balancing the influences of the Demonic and Heavenly forces, and

    Things happen for arbitary reasons.
So from early on, we're primed to see the main character reject both the cause of Hell but question the cause of Heaven. Only, it's treated like him questioning Heaven is a big revelation he came to, but it wasn't. It was his starting point. This sort of sets the tone, where the character is treated as special for wanting to follow a middle path, but does nothing to actually follow that path.
There's chapter after chapter of him doubling down on the Path of Greed, of diving head first into demomic corruption, then taking a step back, thinking 'maybe this is a step too far.' Only a couple chapters later he goes back and does the 'step too far' because he's grinded his corruption resistance stat up higher and now feel like he can risk it.
Yeah. That's the level we're dealing with here.
Eventually he gets handed a middle path via fiat. It wasn't something he worked towards or earned. He just got it... because. I've seen people compare this with Randidly Ghosthound, and while I ended up dropping that for characterization reason and because I stopped caring about the characters, Randidly did consistantly feel like he worked hard and suffered to get where he was going. By contrast, Hunter Gold has constantly been handed unearned success, and it feel... cheap.
In the end, we're suppose to root for him, even though he feels directionless, and shiftless. We're suppose to respect his independence, which doesn't really exist at all - he has hostile relationships with groups he isn't a part of. We're suppose to think he's blazing a middle road, when ever step of the way he took the easy path of corruption.
As this work stands, I can not recomend it.

Stuff that should be happening 100s of chapters in are happening in chapter 30-40. The thick plot armor of having to randomly awaken a unique "something", than to randomly mutate that to a fucking "something". Like Jezus christ man hwo convenient can this story be? He hasn't had to do anything for everything to come stumbling to him. It is just grabbing elements from what was (Randidly ghosthound, The new world, defiance of the fall etc etc) and what is (Primal hunter) popular to make a soup of plot armor and conveniences.
