Past Death Itself

Description

I was executed. I came to a new world. I was given a second chance!

Before my birth, the worlds were in decline. Upon my execution, I was taken to another world which was cursed with destruction.

I came with the destiny of death.

I had little resolve in myself because of the things I had done. Yet I sought to right the wrongs committed in the new world. The demons wished to conquer what was left of the Freelands. With whatever they destroyed, my desire to be more inflamed me.

My story is of their destruction and of my reprisal.

I honed my powers, mastered the mechanics of the world, and rose above all others. At last to become the one who mastered their own fate. The one who had conquered death.

Synopsis 2:

Do you want more meat and substance in your story? One where a second reality is so detailed and alive that it feels like the second coming of Middle-Earth?

Well this should surely tickle your pickle!

A character and world-driven story told from the perspective of a great sage, who clues to his audience the purpose of his life as he speaks it to another.

Unlike many other stories on this site, I aim to keep the narrative as close to current-day publishing standards as possible. Expect very few if any errors, epic-styled prose, with a dash of pseudo-mythology to immerse you in a world full of tragedy and comedy.

The narration of the story is in first person with few instances of second-person usage as our hero, Yurva, addresses both the person he is speaking to as well as us the audience.

If this seems up your alley, then definitely read this story!

Info:

[Chapter Length: Usually 800 - 2000 words]

[Warnings: There is some instances of either sexual violence, rape, or abuse, in the later chapters as well as instances of gory conflicts. I will do my best to be tasteful about these elements and not let them linger too long.]

[If you like traditional Epic/High Fantasy, please check my other workThe Last Sage!]

Kill Six Billion Demons is my favorite webcomic. Its blend of Hindu-Christian+ mythology, epic scale, and fantastically deep worldbuilding and character development makes it a must read/view.
This is the first story I've seen on RR - or anywhere for that matter - that evokes so much of the same feel. From the epic-lilt of the language (epic meaning the ancient writing style, not the superlative), to the custom language, to the descriptive names and titles, this story radiates mythic theme, image, and style.
As a fellow author with a day job besides, I have very little time to read and, while I've only gotten so far as the MC's babyhood, this one's already on my very small list of stories to read to completion.
The story feels familiar yet unique and unpredictable, carrying that feeling of Eastern rather than Western story and value structure. No mindless violence (at least so far) or even traditional good vs evil (beyond the Demons) themes seem to enter, living instead in a realm of more nuanced complexity.
Looking forward to seeing how the super-artsy, seemingly unique System works as well.
Definitely worth a read, enough so that I'm going to sit down and finish it as soon as I can!

I don't write reviews... ever. But I feel this story deserves one, just from the sheer awesomeness of it. The writing style is written like a lost document from an ancient Indian era. Like an epic of ancient Mesopotamia or Himalayan origin that's been translated into English. The mythos is Indian mythology/ Hindu religion inspired, which gives a unique flavor unlike any other story on Royal Road. The author fluid writing style does not detract from this idea ever, remaining consistent in its telling of the story, and holding you engaged in the epic. Truly a uniquely awesome story.

The story slowly brings its readers into a world that they are allowed to get to know bit by bit. The author has paid great attention to the descriptions and enchants their readers with details that paint pictures.
Style: The writing style is literally designed for an ancient time - something that also seems to be part of the story. There is something old-fashioned about it that makes the world being described more believable in its own way. Although this leads to some sentences sounding stilted here and there, one can get over that considering the world and otherwise so adequate paraphrasing.
Story: The story has a rather slow start because we are thrown into a completely new world and the author has done everything to make sure that we get to know this world first before plunging into chaos. Only when the basic pillars are in place do we move on to the first obstacles that the protagonist has to overcome. All slightly covered by the fate of the main character, the atmosphere thus seems mostly tense to fascinating.
In addition, the structure of the "game system", or whatever one would like to call it, is actually different from what we mostly read here. The way decisions can be made is beautifully designed and lets the reader engage in their own way.
Grammar: Apart from a few minor errors such as not quite correct punctuation, the author has done their best here.
Characters: Mainly, up to here, you have the main character in front of your nose, which actually feels distant. It isn't easy to empathise with the character or to imagine what he is feeling in some ways.
Apart from that, however, he brings pleasant qualities like insecurity from which the story benefits and which makes him believable and approachable.
All in all, the story is wonderful for anyone who craves a slightly different LitRPG. The system is wonderfully thought out and the small steps the character takes are definitely great to follow.
