Passive Berserker (LITRPG)
Community Rating
Description
After planning his own death at his deathmatch fight, Cole ‘the Berserker’ Xander fulfilled his own wish to die in the hand of someone worthy.
However, fate hadn’t been done with him. Before his last breath, the Immortals had transferred worthy people to another universe of magic and monsters, and he was one of the chosen people. Those celestial beings wanted to strengthen the chosen ones in order to save every being in the multiverse from the biggest threat they were facing, the rampage of the Primordial Void. Thus, they gave magical abilities and the power to level up to them.
Facing something out of his control, Cole decided to live for a while, thinking he could find something interesting in a brand new universe. However, he had one more problem. He could only add passive skills in his skill slots.
With only passive skills and his desire to seek something thrilling, Cole began his adventure. In his journey, he would fight a lot of monsters, level up, and face the inner rage in his heart a lot of times. Those were the way of the Passive Berserker.

- William_MostRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has good premise, I can feel the originality when I read it. The characters are interesting as well. For what reason Cole that really wanted to die just to reach freedom, didnt he value his life? Isnt there any other way to life? Well it contain mental health when I comment about this, or maybe psychological part? And at first, I think this story would be action thriller but it turned to fantasy, no? Anyway I like how the writer made the naration~!
(Note: Sorry for my poor language) - BananalloyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall the story and characters are pretty good and compelling, like the title of this review says, having motivations and fair reasonings of their own. The plot is alright, nothing special but that's not really a focus for most Litrpg stories in the first place. What matters most are the system, stats, and combat.
I find the system well made, and it's enjoyable for the most part. You don't just get Exp and money instantly transferred into some digitised storage, instead everything is stored as cards which can be used to move them into said storage. Honestly, I feel like more stories should make use of this idea, where Exp can be transferred between people but once absorbed can no longer be taken.
Stats are inline with the LitRPG genre, although it's hard to say they make that much sense. Obviously bigger is better, but given the sheer quantity that everyone is receiving it makes every level early on extremely impactful.
And combat is good for the most part, it keeps pacing and explains the protags actions well enough. My gripe with it is the author's use of technical terms in some cases, which I whole-heartedly advocate against unless it's in character driven dialogue.
And lastly, the topic I avoided discussing, grammer. While fine to read for the most part, it is not perfect. There are also times where tense mistakes are made, but it is not an issue overall. What is annoying is the unnatural dialogue, making up pretty much the only thing I actually dislike.
Yes, review is long. TL;DR: Story, characters, system, and combat all good. Dialogue and writing needs work, but it all makes sense and is readable. - voratious_readerRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0So far, so good. The MC isn't that good at socializing yet and the dialogue feels more awkward than it needs to. MC's build also shows a lot of potential. It also doesn't get bogged down by notifications too. The side characters are okay, with most of them getting sufficient time to build up. The MC also has a goal in mind other than to get stronger.
- LeshyNZRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Story has some good bones, but needs an editor to check sentence structure. Some sentences seem off with strange word choices.
"Those cowards cooperated to fight Frenzy Rabbits."
Spelling has been good so far, grammar is good too, apart from the odd bits here and there
overall, keep it up and I'll keep reading! - Cranium9Royal Road★★★ 2.5There is no way I can describe this better then meh he has a unique skill that is supposed to take affect but it has done nothing when it should have and the dialogue is so robotic and the interactions between people are just as bad but the idea of the story is somewhat novel and very good in my opinion
- WanderingBreathRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The dialogue in this is extremely stilted, all of the characters speak in a blunt and straightforward way that feels unnatural. If one character spoke that way, you could say that that character has trouble speaking, but all of the characters have the exact same manner of speech. What is really odd is that the story has perfectly fine spelling and grammar, so it doesn't feel like the author is a non-native English speaker.
In terms of style, as of chapter 10, the passive skill gimmick has yet to play any noticeable role in the story, which is a shame because it's a neat premise with a lot of potential, but this story doesn't feel as though it will ever live up to that potential. I also can’t tell if the author is trying to insinuate that passive skills are looked down upon or not. I’ve always found that full passive skill builds are really good in RPGs, so I can’t see how this “Passives only” debuff is actually a bad thing.
The Story seems extremely simple. It looks like it's shaping up as a "Misunderstood Lone Wolf gets isekaied with a group," story. Generic, but not bad. A generic plot like this can be fun if the characters and worldbuilding are good, but... See the above categories.
Overall, I can't call this story an atrocity of writing, but I can't call it good enough to continue reading.
