Description
The social media data of a dead man has been used to recreate his consciousness in a VRMMO.
Luke Walton is now Urul Mulush, an orc NPC in Crossroads Online. Sold a legendary blade, he discovers an entirely new class: the Weaponmaster. With it, he can join the players in their relentless pursuit of levels and loot.
Even with the best equipment in the game, he can’t reach max level without making tough decisions that strain his morals and relationships. The dungeons and dragons are easy pickings compared to the hostile players, and worse still is the rogue artificial intelligence in charge.
A subscription for half a million gold hangs over his head. Unique classes come with the additional challenge of infamy, and none of the benefits of fame. He's going to make it back to his family in the real world, even if it kills him… again.
What to expect:
- Not your typical VRMMO power trip
- Relatable MC
- Fast, consistent pacing
- Emotional plot with levity

- Robert666Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0a refreshingly unique viewpoint into the isekai/system genre which blends an entertaining look into magic, cultivation, and scifi.
I've been quite enjoying my read through of these novels, as well as adding in my own editing suggestions to improve the enjoyment of future and current readers to it.
I can honestly say that this is a story that I would highly recommend to everyone, with it's hints at romance, power-gaming, and political/corporate plotting! - BiggidySmallsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is the first story in a long time that has held my interest. As someone with very little previous experience with LitRPG's, I found this story entertaining, exciting, easy to follow, and at times, eerily relatable.
The main character is about as down to earth as a person in their situation could be. The emotions portrayed by the protagonist is on par with what I would imagine anyone undergoing their circumstances would be. This is the first part that drew me in.
The fantastical tribulations within the book are fun to read through, with witty side-comments from the perspective of the protagonist and the supporting characters assisting to keep my interest.
This book was not a "chore" to read, but a blissful pleasure. The many twists and turns made me (as a mostly non-reader,) want to be further immersed in the story. This tale presents many different challenges that range from in-game to the outside world that most could find resonance with.
The story is written in a style that is witty, whimsical, and all around fun to read. Transitions gracefully from one topic to the next, all while keeping the level of excitement at an enormous high. I felt as if I was forming a personal relationship with the characters while reading through based on the thoughtfully crafted descriptions from the author, and the attention to relatable details.
In conclusion, I am excited to read more from this author, especially if we get a sequel! - Carl HutchensRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a great story that was actually my introduction to LitRPG. It was not a genre I was interested in, but the author and I had a great conversation in a Discord chat, so I thought I would give it a try. I read, laughed and kept turning pages and now I am hopelessly hooked.
Earl is the protagonist and a character who is both down to earth and relatable, especially if you have ever played a MMORPG. Earl isn't a jerk at all, but he encounters plenty of people who are while trying to figure out what the heck is going on and hopefully survive in the process. Again, anyone who has survived MMO Chats at one in the morning will be grinning. Anyone who has had to watch the quest counter tick up while dodging people trying to do the same may recall some of their more creative uses for profanity! If you have not had that experience, it is a LOT more fun to read about it than it was to have it. I laughed hard enough that it scared my cats.
There are internal conflicts with Earl as well, so it's not all comedy. The author takes a thoughtful approach in the way he builds the story. The character development is good, well-written, and paced nicely. If you are a fan of this genre, or just good writing in general, I highly recommend this work. I know it has certainly broadened my horizons as a reader. - DefinitelyABananaInMyPantsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Earl, the protagonist, is certainly a standout character in these early chapters as his journey of discovery in this new world feels authentic and relatable. He embodies a grounded, witty, and surprisingly down-to-earth persona, which makes him easy to connect with. The author excels in portraying his emotions and reactions, making him a compelling and engaging lead. His internal conflicts and growth are hinted at early on, adding depth to his character beyond the initial comedic elements.
The early zone is far from being a mere backdrop; it's populated by a cast of memorable side characters who contribute significantly to the world's depth and color. Earl's interactions with them further enhance the immersive experience, reminiscent of guiding a newcomer in your favorite MMO. These relationships, and how they evolve within the virtual world, are presented with interesting twists, adding another layer of intrigue to the narrative. The unconventional mentorship he receives further highlights the unique approach the author takes to established archetypes.
Ultimately, the early chapters of Paragon of Weaponmasters establish a compelling foundation with a relatable protagonist, a richly built world, and an engaging storyline that promises twists and turns along the way. The sense of mystery surrounding the game world and the lingering questions about Earl's situation make it an exciting read, leaving you eager to explore everything the author has in store. - GhostcatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story makes me relive the days when I was neck-deep in MMORPGs. All the quirky things, and more, attached to gaming are represented, along with the personal twists the author inserts for worldbuilding.
The style isn't what I usually go for. Present tense isn't my favorite, but the subject is a familiar one, and it's easy to quickly forget about in the immersion. The author stays in that form and doesn't deviate, so it's easy to forget.
The grammar is good for readability. It stays grounded.
The story is a steady, strong build as the main character learns the world and his place in it. Lots of grinding done in an entertaining way. The concept of relationships within a VMMORPG is tackled with some interesting twists.
The main character is very relatable, and the support character lends to the archetype of the Mentor in an unconventional way. The isekai aspect isn't just a one and done thing, either. It is a constant existence that the MC can hear about, but can't touch. This is a LitRPG that comes off as a classic.
It is low crunch, but it's 100% RPG based, with some mythological echoes that linger like easter eggs, waiting to be found. - JosephWRRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've really enjoyed reading this book. There's standard LitRPG elements, but also an interesting meta/background element that makes me want to find out more as well
The MC is definitely overpowered, and that's not really explained as such, but it all fits in with the wider meta elements in an interesting way. - Levi RansomRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Do you remember that feeling the first time you logged into WoW or any MMO? The vastness of it. The hidden potential just waiting to be tapped? Just one more quest, just one more raid. Paragon of Weaponmasters delivers all of those feelings with a fresh new twist. Long time MMO fans will enjoy the familiar menus, shit talking chat rooms and golden question marks. But Paragon takes the reader one level deeper into the simulation, and cranks the stakes to eleven.
The writing is clean and flows easily. The author has been responding to grammar corrections in a timely manner. The story itself feels original in its execution. As a reader I am invested in this ragtag little band of NPC’s and their plight against the merciless AI. Complexity is being added at a satisfying pace and the numbers do indeed go BRRRRRR. In what I have read so far the MC is very strong, but instead of boring it feels like there is a hammer about to drop on him at any moment.
The characters feel realistic in their emotions and reactions. The dialog is down to earth and gritty. Even minor characters get their moment in the spotlight.
Long story short, read the damn book. You won’t regret it. - AshleyAnntixRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0My husband ( once a long distance boyfriend ) and I got to know each other early on in our relationship by playing World of Warcraft together. This story brings up a lot of warm and fuzzies from memories of that era of our lives.
I am thoroughly enjoying being immersed in this world and meeting this cast of characters. Some of the characters remind me of us in many ways, which is a nice personal touch. I am easily able to imagine myself in this world. The characters may be in a fantasy world, facing larger than life problems, but they still feel very relatable.
I think the story has everything a fantasy or MMO/RPG lover could want and more. Classic orc vs human themes are explored in a "Medieval" (for lack of a better word) fantasy like world but intriguing technological themes make the story feel like the first of its kind.
The author wastes no time getting to the point, yet they provide you with plenty of substance. The story is diverse and far from monotone, taking you on a thoughtful, fun and sometimes deliciously spicy adventure.
One of my favorite reads. I could not recommend this story enough. - Rain AmbyllRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Paragon of Weaponmasters delivers a fast paced, ever evolving story with passion and forethought. The characters are realistic and relatable and the plot moves at a steady pace, allowing for easy immersion.
The game system is fluid and familiar, without the usual bloating you would see in a VR MMO system.
A fine addition to the VR MMO space. I'm throughly excited for Book 2. - Magic_MeatballRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Honestly, this one surprised me. It’s not your typical VRMMO power trip. The main character feels real—he’s not OP, and he struggles a lot, but it makes every win feel earned. The orc angle adds flavor, and the world actually reacts to it.
The game mechanics are clean, the pacing is tight, and the story keeps moving without wasting your time. The “Prison” arc especially hits hard—dark, gritty, and emotional.
Only downside is a bit of stat/crafting info-dump here and there, but it’s easy to skim if it’s not your thing.
4.5/5. Super solid. Definitely worth the read.
