The world was overrun with zombies due to a ever changing virus. the virus was released from a nanotechnologies study laboratory aka NSL. It has been years since the outbreak but the government cant seem to contain the virus or the infected. People try to move on with life in the small walled in communities but when nick gets infected something goes wrong, or right if you look from his perspective.
