    This is fanfiction, but at the same time it does a lot of lore recounting and setting the stage for what would be players of the game. This means that as an artistic piece and as a media piece it has two different and conflicting purposes. As for bringing someone into the lore and giving an explanation of a character's backstory that is good, but at the same time for those in the know it is telling a story already known and doesn't make itself stand out as a reinterpretation or twisting of the original media. While it is nice that this did so well in the contest, I believe that for a story it lacks depth and punch because it is mostly telling (necessary by the arbitrary restriction of length) and telling is something that is generally used sparingly to fill in gaps - not tell a story.
