Overpowered Dungeon Boy

Description
A monster dungeon is all Thomas has ever known. After all, he was born there. Now, at age fourteen, he’s been solo-clearing all one hundred floors of the dungeon for years. The last of his family and friends are about to die off as an eternal void beast tirelessly pursues them. Will they ever escape? Thomas’s strength is unparalleled, but what does it matter when you’re trapped in an endlessly repeating prison? He would love nothing more than to see the sky for the very first time and find a safe place to settle down. Fate has much more in mind, but her best efforts only go so far when it comes to the overpowered dungeon boy.
Meanwhile, Nell Windborn lives in a tiny village, clustered on the side of the hundred-league-tall cliff. When the villagers run out of water, they attempt a daring plan, only for their best-laid plans to go awry. Nell can’t save them alone, but maybe she won’t have to as strange new visitors drop from the sky.
A romping fast-paced fantasy adventure with a ridiculously overpowered main character in the trope of Shrek and One Punch Man. Light leveling elements (not LitRPG). Multiple plotlines.New chapters dropped daily ~7:30pm Central. Book one = prologue + 46 chapters + epilogue. Chapter length varies from 400 to 4,000 words (average chapter length trends up later in the book).

- Bruce cRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very good job of weaving multiple plot lines into one cohesive story. Each plot line has complete characters with believable motivations and enough detail to be a story on i's own, but it becomes more than the sum of its parts as a whole. The grammar and pacing are exceptional... I ended up reading book 1 in an afternoon.
- HairyHermitRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of my favorite stories so far!
The main character has a tragic but exciting backstory while the author uses the other characters to build the world he will be thrust into, which works really well to build anticipation for the reader.
Its the kind of story thats very hard to put down and easy to pick up!
Highly recommended to read! - OPdungeonboyloverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I count down the seconds to 7:37pm central every day! I LOVE this book! Quite excited to see where the story will go, and more importantly, to what heights the talented young writer Barreth will rise! His prose is thoughtful, witty, fun and honest.
I've found these chapters to be a fun ride. Barreth takes a classic dungeon scenario and balances a healthy satire and engaging progression through the story. He paints exciting pictures and thrilling sequences that grab and hold the reader's attention.
I'm very grateful to have stumbled upon this book. Admittedly, I'm not the biggest fan of dungeon crawler stories, but I have been able to find a lot of joy in sitting down to give this book a read. I think that the direction is fun and executed with wit and strong storytelling that are far beyond expectation for a first time author like this. Pretty cool!
I am can't wait to see what else is coming through out the rest of this story - and I am hoping that this will become a series because I have really taken a liking to all the characters I've met so far. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I have! - Papa LegbaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story mixes over-the-top violence with a main character that is such a soothingly good-natured person that it's a relaxing, rollicking good time. It's like finding out to your surprise that birthday cake flavoured ice cream is fifty times better with ghost pepper sauce. I don't know how it works but it really, really does.
- mlh2061Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I binged all the way to chapter 30 on this story. So far the parts with Thomas are really interesting and fun, and the perspective shifts and "side chapters" will really suck you in and make you want to learn more about the world if you give them a chance. I'm loving it. And I want more!
- skandhaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Having read hundreds of stories, they all kinda started to blend together. Only stories that I have invested months or years, in terms of waiting for new chapters, hold any interest to me. I have rarely come across a story that so grabbed my attention in the initial chapters itself.
Except now!
My only criticism is that the chapters need to be a bit longer..
I am eagerly waiting for new chapters!! - varkolakRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story is well written and fluid even with multiple scenes going on at once. Everything feels needed so far without any random drawn out explanations or needlessly long fight scenes. There are even a couple chapters that do a good job of reflecting emotion into the reader as well as an unexpected twist. It reads like a published fantasy novel for young adults, which is rare for this site. Overall I am enjoying it, however I feel that the chapters are artificially shortened to drum up the view count. You can knock out the first 30 in a couple hours and the first book ends at 46. So again, very appealing to the young adult school market but lite for my tastes.

Time happens differently outside the dungeon. - GryxxRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story is good and the author is very good with descriptions but certain aspects can be a bit simple sometimes. Things come very easily to the MC, adept at magic, combat, acquiring skills and he appears to be shaping up to be OP, which may come in handy as he appears to be up against a formidable enemy. There is a decent amount of world building going on and the plot is definitely in the early stages, but as the review title states, it's coming along nicely!
I enjoyed getting caught up to the last released chapter and can easily recommend it to someone looking for something to read. The author is very descriptive and I enjoyed picturing the different sceneries. My main critiques would be focused on the villain being a tad TOO evil, almost cartoonishly so, but that will probably become better with more chapters and author experience, and the style is good but not great, lacking a bit of complexity: some characters are a bit one dimensional and things
Mainly the super dog bag with infinite storage capacity (maybe give it growth potential with a high base capacity) as I feel like this can lead to "I just pull the solution out of my convenient infinite bag of things" and a dragon egg?, which might lead to dragon companion(OP) or a boon from a dragon daddy(potentially OP). While these things may be fine individually, I fear that the main character is accumulating advantages too quickly and may cause the enemy to acquire unrealistic powerups as well just to keep up. Exiting the dungeon with his skills and a companion animal to start would probably be enough so we can explore the differences between the dungeon and the outside, seeing how he fits with the outside society first would be more interesting for me as a reader. Having the bag merger and dragon egg acquisition happen later would probably better in the long run, otherwise the story may escalate too quickly and the MC grow too exponentially before we can see the whole world and things become too easy.
come a bit - cerealmanRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The book is alright but suffers from a few significant shortcomings. The book would benefit a lot from a rewrite that irons out some of the behavioral/emotional inconsistencies. Since it is still readable and even enjoyable if you are looking for a power trip sort of book... I gave it 4 stars overall.
Style score 4/5:
So, I never know what exactly style is supposed to cover... is it writing style? Well, the style is ok. The vocabulary is actually above average, I would say. The main issue is that there are different main characters and they are incompletely introduced and the transitions between parts are a bit rough.
Grammar Score: 4.5/5
The grammar is just fine. I didn't notice anything bad in particular but also didn't look for it. Parts of the story I was skimming to see if there was something interesting coming up, so I might have missed a few errors. So make it anywhere between 4-5/5.
Story Score: 4/5
My main issue is that the author doesn't seem to be clear on whether it is supposed to be a "cute" story, a comedy, or some serious adventure. The characters act quite weirdly, at times immature, or even outright stupid, with random emotions/reactions that just don't seem realistic. Like, a super significant person for the MC dies, and he doesn't think much about it and goes ahead to loot a bunch of rooms, chit-chatting with his handbag, etc. Another time he meets a random person in a forest... doesn't think twice to reveal how powerful he is even though he has trained HARD to hide his stats.
As a side note... sometimes the author makes the characters "think" about stuff by ways of informing the reader of what was going on before. This could be done more elegantly.
Personally, I am not a big fan of a totally overpowered character, as this takes away almost any type of tension. If you end up writing about an overpowered character, you should at least "milk" those reveals, to get the satisfaction across of how the character is underestimated and then has a big ta-t - SoulxlightRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This series is pretty good, especially book 1, book 2 does take a bit of a nose dive however. I think this series would have benefited alot from having one MC or at least restricting the roving POV away from our secondary MC, or at least boosting her character development some similar to how she was before meeting the techguy. As is our secondary MC seems shoehorned in in the second book just to do something away from the MC. The tournament bit was honestly a headache and should have been edited out and replaced with the assassin talking as the only avenue to the prince.
The author also seemed bound and determined to force in a quick and dirty romance storyline for the MC extremely late in the second book which honestly kinda ruined the MC. He suddenly started fumbling and blushing and all of the other generic YA romance stuff which just ruined the read.
All in all a decent read that would have been an excellent read if the romance subplots were scrubbed as they are terribly written. The secondary MC also could have been developed better as in book two she was pointless and hurt the story. I feel like the author wanted strong female characters but doesn't write female characters good at all.
