Lena was just an average girl until she stumbles upon an Otherworlder, a dangerous entity who arrived from an alternate dimension called "Earth" through a mysterious spell known as "isekai". Though it may look like a regular human, Lena knows that the Otherworlder has the power to burn down her country on a whim, so she does the only thing she can. She befriends it.
Can Lena stay sane when the fate of the world relies on her ability to lie, smile, and hold back her tears? Who knows.

- AurumvoraxleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is special. Hero Wrangler turns to the unexamined trauma tropes cover over. The story is a great read for people who are unsettled by some of the tropes of the power fantasy genre, but do not know why. Hero Wrangler puts words to the feeling and evokes a special kind of catharsis by doing so. I highly recommend this story!
- KittyJinglesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a funny take on indulgent isekai/litRPG stories. The mall ninja Outworlder is OP and just as oblivious and cringe as you'd expect. I feel terrible for the girl and her valiant effort to keep her village safe. His entitlement and obliviousness is the horror, or maybe it's the second hand embarrassment
- LeitzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0ALERT: When the author says the story contains profanity, it's true. Not hordes of it, but if you don't like "f***" then be advised.
Style It's listed as Horror/Comedy, but I haven't seen any real horror by the mid-40's. Comedy is there, in watching how the POV character freaks out over the events. The choice of POV is awesome, and I had fun reading it.
Plot Device and Pacing Some of the NPCs are given more words than their position warrents so far. I still can't remember which of the lowest ranking mediators is male, and which is female. There was a major perception shift about the mediators as the story went on, and it broke some of my expectations. I'm not yet sure if that was a good thing, or not. But it is there.
Grammar Better than mine, so I can't complain. The words chosen fit the tone, and it was always clear what was said. No issues reading it at full speed.
Characters As mentioned above, some of the extra characters confuse the issue. I'm at the point of the new lead and second showing up, and now I'm more confused. The FMC has been fairly well developed, but now she's changed the relationship potential greatly, and that should kill the connection between her and the Otherworlder. At his age, the revelation would end a lot of things. That may be what the writer intends, but given the FMCs choices in the latter part (of what I have read so far), I'm not sure it's going to work out. Not in the "hope it works out" sense, but in the "you're gonna have to pull something out of your hat that doesn't look like you're forcing it" sense, to maintain interest and continuity.
Overall I enjoy the story and will continue to read. - RaiethRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This was a wonderful exploration of a boy and girl learning to be themselves in a world that doesn’t make sense.
It doesn’t lampshade isekai tropes it places them under surgical lights and meticulously pulls out it’s entire cardiovascular system, capillaries and all.
I meant to go through one chapter at a time and comment on each and only managed one when my heart was breaking because I had to see what happened next. I read it in one sitting…
I’m going to go lie down now. - RioRed&BlueRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A vision of the "hero's" adventures seen by "NPCs" is a positive point in the genre.
A good story that presents the fear that these teenage super beings are to the world.
It presents points of view from different characters, which enriches the story.
But the transition from one character to another could be better highlighted, allowing for a more consistent flow. - Sly raccoonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0this book gave me an crisis and ive broken down too my friends crying and i binged the entire book quickly ty for this book dear author sal i hope to read your future works as scared as i am to but i think i nedded that cry thank you
- oort objectRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0wonderful disaster of a story. the situation is always an utter mess, just a complete shitshow, and it keeps getting worse despite everybody doing their best. no character is not being traumatized. incredibly funny stuff. desperately need to know what happens next every time i finish reading a new update.
- HansHeeringRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5In my oppinion this novel is a horrorstory about a native girl, who is forced to interact with a absolutely powerful, selfcentered psychopath as a "Hero".
It is a story of fear, trauma, stress and more fear for all characters aside from this "hero", who kills for fun and ignores the fact, that everyone he interacts with is absolutely terrified of him.
The story itself is well written, in a gripping style, without any noticable grammatical errors.
Sofar the plot is basically all about the characters, who have depth and behave in a way one can understand and mostly emphasise with.
However for me personally this story is absolutely unbearable to read and therefore I will stop here, but for people who can stomach such a plot, I can recommend it as well written.
Therefore, despite me disliking the story, I have to give it the rating it deserves as a well written spycho-horror story, although I would wish for the commedy tag to be removed, as I can not see any comedy insofar. - Insanity PilgrimRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I read over two sittings and then I cried. It was cathartic to say the least. I'd say the horror element was only in the last arc spread over 2-3 chapters but was quickly replaced by growing sorrow. I know the author mentioned changes they want to do in a revision. However, i hope they dont change the mystery of his previous life. The only thing we know about is the relationship with his father and why its like that and thats fine. If there was one thing to change in that respect it's that I wish part of his healing and acceptance was that he knows it wasn't his fault. The one thing that didnt make sense to me is no one refuted it, which doesn't make sense, as anyone in their right mind would know that.
- TrafficButterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I started Hero Wrangler almost a year ago and picked it up for a binge just a day before I'm writing this review. Currently writing this in an airport just after finishing it. And this is just such an amazing story. I'm a sucker for good comedy so this story lured me in, and even when the tone shifted, the enjoyment was still there and I will touch upon that in the upcoming sections.
Style
I have nothing to say about this. Everything was readable, the style was fluent, and the first person POV of Lena (for most of the story at least) was nailed so well.
Grammar
Nothing much to say. It was great with only a few minor mistakes.
Story
I am not an isekai fan, but I do like my comedic isekai parodies, and this scratched that itch for me. The story is basically the chaos that an OP isekai protag brings from the perspective of an NPC. The hijinks are funny and the way the author deepens it is interesting, even for a first draft.
Now, I want to use this section to gush about what I love about this story the most that made it get 5 stars: the awkwardness. I don't know how you did it, Sal, but—especially during those later chapters—you know how to write uncomfortable or tense scenes. Whether that be through the comedy or the horror aspect on the story, but let me hone in on the comedy.
I see some others saying that it's not a comedy (especially when it gets to Arc 2), however, for those first few chapters (the whole of Arc 1 pretty much), some of the moments had me literally laughing due to how awkward or horrific they were.
At the end of Chapter 8, when the chapter just ended with "I had no idea where to even begin... So I didn't... I went home", I was cackling for this poor girl. When the village forced themselves to clap in a chapter or two after, I lost it as well. It was horrific, yes, but the sheer uncomfortableness of it all was humorous.
My hardest laugh had to be during Chapter 37:
When Jamie called himself broken and Lena (you sweet innocent girl) just went on and o
