Description
In the foggy, gas-lit streets of 1836 London, a young woman named Yvette awakens in a cold, stone chamber, her body unfamiliar and her memories fragmented. Once a dying patient in a modern hospital, she finds herself reborn in a world where the supernatural lurks beneath the surface of Victorian society. Yvette soon discovers that she has become a pawn in a dark ritual conducted by a sinister cult, led by a man known only as the Black Cloak. Through a twist of fate, she escapes her captors, only to be thrust into a hidden world of magic, ancient gods, and dangerous secrets.
Rescued by two enigmatic figures—Ulysses, a flamboyant and cunning French nobleman, and Winslow, his stoic and loyal companion—Yvette learns that she has gained supernatural abilities as a result of the ritual. She is now a "Transcendent," a being with powers beyond human comprehension, but also one who risks losing her humanity to the corrupting influence of the gods whose power she wields.
As Yvette navigates her new life, she must grapple with the moral complexities of her abilities, the shadowy organization that seeks to control her, and the remnants of the cult that still hunts her. With Ulysses and Winslow as her guides, she begins to uncover the truth about her past, the nature of the gods, and the dark forces that threaten to unravel the fragile balance between the mundane and the supernatural.
Set against the backdrop of a richly detailed Victorian London, Otherworld Demon Hunting Chronicles is a tale of mystery, magic, and self-discovery, where the line between good and evil is blurred, and the price of power is often paid in blood.

- MytheralRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Imagine Sherlock Holmes but instead of two English men, Sherlock is a French noble, Holmes is an English man, and the third, a woman, transmigrated to an alternate Earth where the French revolution failed.
Our MC a Yvette also known as Yves or Ives, awakes in the body of a woman who underwent a failed lobotomy in a lovecraftian London where cultists and fragments of old gods walk the streets and sewers.
The story is episodic, each creature encountered could be it's own self contained episode like '90s TV and enjoyed as such. That isn't to say that there isn't an overarching plot, there is, but it's very slow burn as is fitting of a good mystery.
That said the pacing in the beginning has a few hickups, some of the chapters are missing portions of the beginning of the chapter, but the biggest flaw is that the author doesn't delineate scene changes or time skips as is usual here on the Royal Road.
Over all I'd give this an 8.5 to 9 out of 10 on the would I read this again scale... I would re-read it but I'd probably also do some of my own editing to clean the story up some. - eugene2kRoyal Road★★★ 3.0This is one of those more unique stories on the site - interesting world building, interesting arcs - Lovecraftian dark fantasy blends with genius detective mysteries, further blending with portal fantasy. I'd give this thing five stars if it weren't for the characters changing names all the time and sometimes (rarely) being inserted into scenes they're not supposed to be in, sentences at the beginning or end of chapters being unfinished, lack of separation between scenes, and the story stopping to make sense due to all that. It's as if the author is telling this story as fever and insanity proceed to claim them. Perhaps they saw the hidden truths of their story and are simply now losing their mind.
