Real Levels,  Real Stakes…

Jin Kobashi fixes Augmented Reality games for a living.  Rather than debugging them in a cozy office, he must fight enemies face to face in real-life locations.  After discovering one of his colleagues has an injury on an unfinished project, he decides he’ll try fixing the dangerous game himself.  However, it’s far more treacherous than he could’ve imagined, and unfortunately for him, the job only pays out if he wins.

This sci-fi action story delivers a perfect blend of sharp writing and relentless pacing. The protagonist’s role as an AR game tester is a unique lens through which the author explores a futuristic world, with just the right amount of detail to pull you in. Action scenes are fast, thrilling, and well-executed, while the narrative never slows down, maintaining high energy throughout. The dialogue is snappy, and the overall flow makes for a compelling, immersive read.

I read the first three chapters in one go and man, really wish there was already more. I can totally see this as a movie already. I like the suspense of the unanswered questions the author is seeding right away, and the concept of the main characters job is cool.

The story has an interesting hook with the protagonist having to fix games for independent game companies.  I like the setting as well, with it being an abandoned resort that's turned into a backdrop for the game.  Excited to see more from the game company and any possible mysteries surrounding them.  Only on chapter three, but eagerly waiting for more.

Only on chapter 3 as of this review and hopefully we get another chapter this month. I like what Asher is trying to do with the idea of someone who fixes games. I’m not sure if the company will be evil or if it will focus more on the game. I’d like to see more involving him fixing the game itself as the story continues. So far so good though! I’m invested and wanting more, so I’d recommend it.

The world depicted in this story is far more than a mere digital playground; it is a lethal, unforgiving environment where every glitch could spell actual doom. The protagonist, Jin, is a compelling yet chillingly pragmatic game debugger with a unique religious background as a Foundationalist.
He is not a typical hero driven by emotion. Instead, Jin treats every life-threatening crisis as a complex puzzle to be solved. His ability to coldly analyze situations and ruthlessly exploit system vulnerabilities makes his survival feel intensely strategic and hard-earned. He is, without a doubt, a master of his craft.
However, the world of Omen is rapidly spiraling out of control, far beyond Jin's calculations. The primary antagonists—driven by seemingly sentient, generative AI—are not bound by predictable code. They adapt, learn, and hunt, pushing Jin into deeper corners of despair and inescapable crisis.
At the precipice of choice, where there are no clear "right" answers, Jin must decide who lives and who dies. For in this world, his hand holds the power of life and death, and the consequences are all too real.

Story is interesting so far.  Excited to see where this is going.
Been really into pseudo isekais like sword art online and shangrila frontier lately.  If that is your jam, then this so far would be a good story for you.
I'm hoping this builds to a deeper conspiracy for the OSTs to overcome
