Description

I am a scout.

An elven scout of the 15th Legion of the Republic. Not the most notable legion these days, but its history and service are unquestionable, and I serve it with pride and dedication. I venture into the uncharted northern lands, often alone, and find the threats before they can damage the realm.

An uncommon rank for an elf to reach after their compulsory service, but it is the same position my father earned. And his father before him. My mother was no slouch either, as she proved herself by joining the archer cohort.

And now I'm heading out into the Northern Forest in search of the expected beastkin horde entering our lands. The latest occurrence of an endless struggle. It is dangerous, but somebody has to do it, and I am proud to fulfill my duty. All for the sake of the Republic.

A Republic that hates me. Throw a stone, and it will land next to a human willing to ridicule me and my family for existing, no matter how often we prove ourselves. Why do I serve them with such loyalty? Why...

I am a scout of the Republic. I perform my duty with honor and dedication. I will stand until I am relieved.

This is a great story of a Roman inspired nation trying to survive against the endless hoard of beastkins. It follows an elf scout and his actions as a scout for the army trying to find out what the beastkins are doing.
It is very well written besides a typo every couple of chapters. The pacing is great no big lulls and no real endless slogs of fighting.
The two power systems in the world are fleshed out and make sense. Overall this is just a passed over gem with a really well fleshed out character.

I recommend this story for anyone who loves traditional fantasy.
The Worldbuilding, the characters, the plot, the style, everything about this story is at the standard of s quality published novel. What is rare this days, is that it sll makes sense. From the characters motivations, to the world. Never once you get the "uh it why is this? This doesn't make sense". That's the best praise i can give, the effort the author puts into his work is undeniable.
I wholeheartedly recommended this to anyone who wants to read a high quality traditional fantasy story!

It's a shame, that the story fell through the cracks. It's worth a read.
We follow mostly through the eyes of a fantasy "roman" elf scout. It's about war and soldiers, so that has to be your thing. There are snippets mixed in that tell of the history of the different species.
Slowly we are led through to the bigger machinisations. The pacing is good, always something happnes, although sometimes I wish that things would move a little faster forward. There is great attention to to detail with the characters, their feelings and the world at large. There is some mysticism mixed in which is good.
If you ever want to experiance what it feels like as a scout in the body of an elf in a fantasy world at the beginning of a war, I can only recommend this story.
Of course there is magic ;)!
