*Please read the warnings at the end of the Synopsis before reading*
For some, death is not the end but only the beginning.
These unlucky few are forced to call the endless abyss, a space between time and dimensions, home as they infiltrate the physical plains to gain substance and strength.
Here we find the self-named Nyx, a being that has recently gained his freedom from a tyrannical summoner in a cultivation based world.
Free at last, Nyx is more than content to reside in the void for the rest of his existence.
However, it seems fate doesn't agree, and Nyx soon finds himself back inside a mortal body.
Yet, much to Nyx's delight, it seems those that have summoned him this time have done so in ignorance.
Something that they, as well as those who had long thought him dead, will come to regret.

- The ShardRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm a sucker for cultivation novels, at least Western cultivation novels. I'm a big fan of really dark subject matter, and of those that can control the shadows.
So this story is hitting all the right notes for me, it's well written, and compelling, I saw it on "Latest Updates" when I went to check my bookmarks, and figured "Shadow Prnicess" that sounds like something I would like . . . less than 2 hours later here I am waiting for the next chapter like a junkie.
Well done sir, well done. - WitchCraftRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly a very interesting story, I am a big fam of the grim and dark. I look forward to seeing everything that happens in the story. Grammar and spelling are pretty good.
- MrXeriosRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This story has been a pretty good one so far. Still lacking emotion wise tho.
Spoiler: Spoiler
The first scene, which is the reason this story has been described as dark, happens to a caracter we know nothing about, we have no attachment to. It could still feel traumatizing is emotions were described more in depth imo. It just feels lacking at the moment
I just can't understand the way nyx acts when she gets to the hospital. Why the hell does she get attached randomly to some people. She is supposed to be a half crazed killer, she may toleratesome people, but not get attached, at least not so fast.
My favorite moment is when she lets her mask slip for a second when she is about to get out of the hospital, and let granny see her emotion. Short but powerful, really nice touch to the story.
Overall I really enjoy the story so far, don't take my criticism to heart, i only tried to convey what i liked/disliked the most as a reader. Please keep up the good work. - danlern2Royal Road★★★ 3.0I would say it's a definitely better than average story, with a pretty nice premise and a lot of potential in the world building. I wasn't too fond of the story direction and the MC though. I felt you have a great thing here with the Abyss, and with some vague explanations about how it works. However we don't know too much about it or why it exists and works the way it does, and I feel that we probably won't learn about that in the future. The Abyss is described to connect to a bunch of different worlds, but we will probably only see one throughout the entire story, what seems to be a completely average and cookie cut cultivation world. There's nothing particularly interesting about the setting other than the Abyss.
The MC is supposed to be some sort of emotionless killing machine at the start of the story, but it seems she has the cliched case of, "Any emotion I have will show except when I attempt to adopt an expressionless face, but even then its so expressionless as to perfectly tell everyone else in the story exactly how I'm feeling anyway." In private she's always emoting and her terribly weak attempt at emotionlessness is broken every other paragraph. It just doesn't seem that she's as hardened or ruthless as the author is trying to tell us she is. Every chapter is some long paragraph about how hard her life is and how desensitized she is to it all, but what we actually see of her is some conflicted and depressed soul, which in a story that didn't put the MC on a pedestal of nihility would be fine.
I just feel that the story lost its initial feeling and I just got bored reading it. - Seth JakillRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Starts off well with a Great call to adventure setup,
Spoiler: Spoiler
continues into a great breakout. Then she get Captured/ Rescued by her bodies family. Jumps to what the nmcs beleive is a alternate personality/recovery arch. This follows up with "an ambush from the grave" reveiling to all who/ what she is. Into a right turn into Wuxia land with "crazy powerups with terrible downsides".
At chaper 2a1c i dropped this novel as it compleats its genre change to full wuxian cultivator novel. - Nik_KRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The first 60 chapters are excellent—very atmospheric! The writing style is also quite decent: scenes are well-crafted, and there’s a good balance between what you want to show. The violence and cruelty serve a purpose—they reveal the character as a human being.
But after that, I stopped reading. Around chapter A2:C5 (that’s where, in my opinion, the main problem lies), the author essentially “killed” the humanity in the protagonist. Such a drastic shift in the story kills the motivation to keep reading. We came here to follow a person—as in the first 60 chapters. But when that person disappears and is replaced by a completely different kind of character, you can’t help but wonder: why did we read all those previous chapters?
If I wanted a story about animals and instincts, there are already excellent, well-produced documentaries for that. In the middle of a novel (or movie, or any narrative) to “kill off” the core of the protagonist and still carry on is, frankly, a poor choice. Few readers will appreciate it. The story loses its weight—because no matter what the character does next, they’ve been reduced to a pattern, no longer human, and everything they do becomes predictable.
As for grammar: I can’t judge too deeply, since it’s not my strong side, but I didn’t notice any major problems. The story reads smoothly, everything is understandable, and your English is good enough not to distract from the narrative itself.
Story rating: I’m picky here. For me, 5 means a masterpiece, 4 means good, 2 means poor. I’d rate this work around 2.5–3. The biggest issue is pacing: some parts drag on too much, while others rush by. Characters feel flat, and the worldbuilding is a little underdeveloped. - hawlolRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The initial part of the novel is great. A grimdark 18+ fantasy. The story makes us uncomfortable with the violence, the MC is an old monster reborn, created by continual torture and abuse, and although ruthless and violent, is not necessaryly evil.
The Author manages to portrait the scary and horror parts without being too edgy or with unnecessary gore. And it goes really well. I got angry at the villains, cheered for the MC, there was challenge, she was strong and cool while not being too overpowered. It was a really well written and entertaining first part!
Then, after the firt prison arc, when she gets to the kingdom, everything falls apart. The dark fantasy is replaced by a regular transmigration setting. The MC is suddenly weak, incredibly immature and incompetent, while also immediately having 'Fuzzy Feeelings' for the family of the body he/she/it took, feeling the 'warmth of family' in a few days at the hospital. The pacing also slows down to a crawl and several chapters could be cut in half with very little meaning in them.
In short, a completely overhall of the initial setting that will disapoint most, if not all. Had the author remained with his dark vengeance horror story it could become an amazing novel, but now the old monster gets its ass handed by everyone, freely gets a master to train her, will have to act as a princess for nobles and schemes while wearing cute dresses(and then a cultivation sect), while also making 'warm' friendships like with her loud mouth guard, hugs and cries at the shoulder of a newly met granny, etc.
My honest opinion is that the Author should scrap everything after the first prison arc and rewrite it, following the same atmosphere he had set for the initial arc. She being a lonely anti-hero that hunted the scum in a 'horror monster' kind of way would be a far better tale than what it turned into.
Btw, if you want a redemption story with 'fuzzy feelings' don't be so descriptive with the violence/rape like you did . It doesn't - LaughingHyenasRoyal Road★★ 2.0This was abandoned about five years ago, and I can see why. I got bored reading it.
Too much badly written cliches. Too many inconsistencies. The POV is raped over and over, but they are the greatest, the strongest ever, and defeats a whole bunch of people. They are whisked away to a country, kept in a hospital, where they are (Surprise, surprise) actually the princess. Whoa, imagine that.
What got me was Grandma coming in and beating her up. The kid is in the hospital. Why fight the kid over what they wear to leave the hospital? That makes no damn sense. Also, POV was supposed to be the greatest, like an immortal demon. Why would Grandma be able to take her so easy? If this was allowed behavior in that royal family, I would abdicate.
I read on for a while, but after all of that I couldn't care.
While there was a lot of sex at the beginning I didn't enjoy rape after rape.
Also, the author should have proof read it. I know it's Royal Road, but those mistakes were bad enough that they made me stop to puzzle out what they actually meant. - thorgrinRoyal Road★★ 1.5the book starts off well, sorta. Then the “actual” beginning happens. Which is ok. The. The time skips happen. And you now understand nothing about what is happening. She apparently spent a decade in a forest while not advancing at all? Like seriously? Going from like stage 4-like what stage 8 is very shit for a decade ofncultivation at that level. Then she joins a sect. Which she doesn’t actually do because guess what, time skip! And she’s now being hunted by that very same sect for reasons I did not find out until writing this review. Very disconnected, feels like an entire arc was just up and deleted, with us expected to still remember the deleted parts and fill in gaps about what’s happening.
- Fallon StarRoyal Road★ 0.5Started with decent background, interesting characters and massive potential, however towards the end of Act1 took a starp turn off a cliff and from then on author seemed intent on beating the dead horse.
Eventually in the author notes and comments the cause was found. For each chapter the author would make multiple versions, each with vast differences in events, character background, history, core motivations and personality and even the characters physical being. The version used only being decided just moments before upload. At one point the author published a list of changes/rewrites they felt were good for the story... which completely stripped out the remaining original and fresh ideas and replaced them with tired, overused tropes from xianxia and D&D type novels.
Each time a choice needed to be made the author seemed to be drawn towards the most 'edgelord' (his term) option possible.
In short if you enjoy the first eight to ten chapters the rest will leave you frustrated, annoyed and just dissapointed at the wasted potential of what could have been.
