    Not a lot to say about this one, tbh. The cover caught my eye and I read it for a while. It's pretty fun. I'd probably give it a 4.2, but rounding down to 4 when it's already rated flatly 4 seems eh, so I rounded up instead.
    Pretty fun, secret magic questing group hidden in NYC, normal person stumbles into it. The characters seem fine, didn't notice any grammar problems.

    I read the two books of this story so far in a couple days and thoroughly enjoyed it.
    The setting has a lot of mystery and depth and the characters are enjoyable.
    The main character is a fairly ordinary woman who gets involved in a real world mmorpg… sorta. In fact the game aspects are quickly revealed to be a way of drawing in potential recruits to the supernatural world. The magic system is interesting and the society is complex.
    Alchemists gather rare reagents from seemingly mundane sources. Certain trees, rocks and animals that naturally collect magic inside them. When these reagents are treated in certain ways and combined together they can form anything from a speed potion to portal paint to magic swords. This is a cool idea and there is a wide selection of creations that are shown throughout the story.
    The alchemists have a whole society with guilds and clans and corporations all centred around the trade in these reagents. There are hints of ancient conspiracies and secret powers that even the alchemists don’t know about. Wealthy alchemists use a quest system to hire mundane lackeys to collect cheap reagents while street gangs armed with cursed blades lurk in the shadows.
    on the more negative side, the plots and intrigue feels a bit rushed at times. Some plots are detailed and clever while others are glossed over too fast. The cast of characters is interesting but we rarely get enough time to explore and understand them. Finally the Magic System is cool and seems like it should be a hard system… but the viewpoint character only ever uses finished products. I want to see an alchemist figuring out how to combine and manipulate ingredients to fine tune a creation.
    despite my criticisms, the story is a lot of fun. The main character is compelling and the world has a lot of potential. It feels like the main character is finding her feet in the world and so the magic is become more and more accessible too. I like how it feels like we are discovering this magical wo
