Description

A teen boy too old to manifest a magical affinity, finally does, but quickly learns it is forbidden and greatly feared, making him only worthy of death. His family has to flee for their lives to escape mob persecution, causing great tragedy, and a struggle to survive. He is enslaved, loses his dignity and eventually even his gender. She is rescued and learns over a long period to harness her rare magic, with help from her twin siblings and the few good people she is able to befriend.

This is a slow burn, slice of life, gender bender, with magic, mutations, monsters and medieval military mixed in.

This is not a fan fiction, but was inspired by other works of fiction, including Melody of Mana, Paranoid Mage, and An Assassin's Anthem. If you haven't read them yet, I highly recommend you do.

If you are a fan of melody of mana and gender bender you will love this story. Since I’m trans I have always enjoyed gender bender stories and I absolutely loved melody of mana so when I saw that this story was inspired by it with gender bender I couldn’t help myself and started reading and it did not disappoint. I am happily looking forward to new chapters.

It’s a well told story, few grammatical errors are present, and the pacing, while initially uneven does not drag. There are occasional mistakes poor decisions by the protagonist, but they make sense given what is known of the characters, and their ages or experiences. There is some world building; however, it is primarily a chard driven story.
The synopsis is accurate, and it has a combination of coming of age, and to a lesser extent, a slice of life feel, along with a bit of narrative tenses due to the short term, midterm, and long term issues faced by the protagonist and their family.
over all an enjoyable read.

Null Mage is a veritable diamond in the rough. This book should get substantially more attention than it has and I hope getting a review draws some people to the story. It has been more enjoyable than I anticipated and I eagerly await more to be published.
The story has several threads waiting to be explained, and the plot has decent level of complexity without being to complicated to follow. The characters are well written, but need some more fleshing out. The grammar is good, with minimal errors.
I hope to read more and am glad to see a talented author grinding out the chapters!

Didn't expect to find an interesting gender bender story here, the plot is pretty intriguing and kept me going. There were some parts where I felt it could be hashed out better, not going to divulge any spoilers here. All in all, this is a pretty great gem, hope to see more interesting updates along the road.
