When a broken family takes in a state-of-the-art AI helper called Nova to help an alcoholic mum with the kids... teenage daughter Emma is suspicious. For Nova... Nova is watching.
The prose of this story is simply electric, the description unexpected and jarring. I dare you not to feel for the main character and her broken family. Nova is not the obvious threat, not at first. But the build up is truly delicious...
My only criticism would be that the MC is clearly suspicious of Nova even before the AI has done anything much more than help the kids with the homework... but, of course, in the end, her suspicions are well-warranted. Besides, as a high school teacher - kids getting their homework done by AI is my idea of horror.
A superb addition to the sci-fi canon, rounded off in a perfect but unlucky for some 13 chapters! Enjoy! I dare you not to. And remember...
Nova is watching... (and possibly doing your homework!)
